Maryland Pre Game Thread

I'm of the opinion that unless you have Barry Sanders/Emmett Smith/Adrian Peterson on the ground or Jerry Rice/Calvin Johnson/Justin Jefferson in the air, do not declare who you 'are' and what you are going to do.

Unless you are absolutely elite (and we aren't), you have to keep the defense guessing. That's why we couldn't score on UofL from one yard out -- they knew exactly what we were going to do (probably before our own players did).

It will probably never happen, but if the offense doesn’t improve on Saturday, I pray that CTA hands the play-calling duties to Anthony Tucker. We have enough talent to get 6 wins, I’m just not sure it’s possible with Bell as OC.

Your prayers will fall on deaf ears.

6 wins? Are we watching the same team? Maryland will beat us by 30. How do you see us getting to 6 wins?

The last three games are against teams that aren't very good and winnable with improvement on offense.  Maryland/Rutgers are no OSU/Michigan either.

Besides the PSU/Michigan/OSU games, we should "expect" to beat or battle against the other lowly teams in the BIG every year.  If that is not the expectation from the administration/fan base/coaching staff, then we should get ready to receive what's coming to us once big football is in full effect.

WE are the worst team in the Big Ten, period. And will be as long as Tom Allen is on the sideline. It doesn't matter what expectation are, Dolson fixed that with a $20 million dollar buyout. Once again we have more people in the tailgate fields than in the damn stadium. So much so IU started selling passes to tailgate. We cancel a series with Louisville to play , who, Indiana St. again? There are your expectation from the coach and admin. you were looking for.

You stirred up an interesting thought. I'm not sure what the language is in CTA's (or any HC's) contract, but there should be some correlation between money-in-pocket and butts-in-seats. And further more, this should be dynamic, meaning it can flex and change based on performance (or lack thereof). A buyout should be relative; a program shouldn't be handcuffed when things are bad.

CTA hired Bell.  In the end it’s on him to get Bell to right the ship on offense.

CTA righted the ship for the Minutemen:

UMass fired Bell last month and owed him $937,000 over two years. But according to language in his contract, that total would be negated if he took a job paying more than $468,500 and mitigated if he took a job paying less than that. Since his new salary is over $700,000, the Minutemen are no longer required to pay him.

Walt Bell today: “We're a run-first football team. There's gonna be an option element to it because we want play action."

We’re doomed.

Can't be serious??? I mean that's going to be some ineffective-ass play action unless the o-line turns into 80's era Washington hogs of the NFL all of a sudden. If anything we need to be pass to set up the run, not the other way around, as unappealing as that sounds.

Hoping we've got similar contact language if this continues to go south.
