Because he never really made it in the NBA, people forget how good Alford was, even as a freshman.  Knight may have helped his cause to make the team, but Alford was not in over his head.  He belonged.

To this day, when I watch old games from that timeline, I find myself realizing that I have forgotten how good Alford really was.  He was a great college basketball player.

More bad news for Team USA, Bradley Beal is out of the Olympics due to being in the Covid protocol.

Jerami Grant is also in the protocol and his status is uncertain.

The report said they are scrambling to try and replace Beal.

Can't believe this stuff is still happening, anywhere.

Seems the vaccine is effective in preventing hospitalizations as he is symptom free (which is the intent of the vaccine) but that doesn't mean it is impossible to still not contract the virus. Makes you wonder how many vaccinated people are basically still carriers who are asymptomatic....and if they are asymptomatic are they still spreading the virus. Get the feeling that this virus will always be with us similar to a yearly flu virus...not sure  it's going away anytime soon.

Is Booker and Middleton still on the team? They should be available right after the Finals if they so choose. Maybe ask Jrue Holiday....we need better guard defense anyways.

Holiday is on the team as well. All three are expected to join after the Finals.

Then I don't see this as that big a deal....plenty of talent. Maybe look at another front court player. I say add PJ Tucker...guy is a junk yard dog....nobody wants a piece of him in the Olympics. To me it should be more about building the best team possible (ala Knight did in 84) and less about the most star studded team.

Agree on the role player aspect. Not sure Tucker is the guy, he's pretty bad offensively even as just a corner 3 guy.

In that vein though, maybe someone like Mikeal Bridges from the Suns? A plus defender but also shoots over 40% from 3.

It's hard for me to pull for this team due to the NBA supporting the Chinese Communist Government and bad mouthing our own country. Even the coaching staff. Trying to get people fired for even criticizing China makes it even worse.

Still, I'll do my best to pull for them.

Yes. Just was looking at defensive specialist still left playing. We have TONS of offense....doesn't hurt to have a guy that is plus on the boards and a lock down defender that can even bang with 5's....but sure I think the team needs more guys of the Green ilk and less iso dudes.

Hopefully the Finals wrap up before the Olympic medals are awarded. 16 days from Game 1 to Game 7...ridiculous.

No doubt....i honestly lost interest about half way into the second round lol....barely watched any semi or finals. I've tried honestly I have...there is just no momentum for watching these finals.

Yeah, I just mean you can get a defensive specialist that isn't completely inept offensively. You can find one that would also shoot 40% on open 3's when the stars and iso guys kick it out.

Ironically enough, the NBAs previous support of China was peak capitalism. Goes to show there is no such thing as a perfect economic system.

It's still happening everywhere, we've just grown numb to it.

What get's me...and maybe this should go to the corona thread but you hear people saying those unvaccinated are spreading the virus and causing the problem but we don't even know how many vaccinated people are spreading it asymptomatically because they don't get tested. Hearing stories of vaccinated olympic athletes spreading it to each other and testing positive goes to show that just because you are vaccinated you might be protected from a serious case or hospitalization but it doesn't mean you are protecting those around you. Again...this thing is long from over and will continue to effect our lives for quite some time.

Well, I doubt A LOT of vaccinated people are spreading the virus bc there’s only a 5-10% chance that a vaccinated person contracts the virus at all. I’m not advocating one way or the other, but I live with a physician, and she along with any other physicians I’ve ever heard talk about it suggest that if we can get to herd immunity (70%?) then we’d be in good shape. With that said, the new variant is throwing us a curve ball bc Pfizer has done studies that suggest the vaccinated are only 66% safe compared to 95% safe from the regular COVID.
