Very good interview. Dane is smart, insightful, and is great with the English language. Few things I recall: IU hasn’t gotten it right the past 20 years because they’ve tried to re-brand. It hasn’t worked. Woody is going to reconnect us with our brand. Woody and Matta called him last week. Great call. Goals lined up. Fife had never been offered a job at IU before. Izzo was classy in letting him go. He totally understood that Dane is an IU guy. Izzo said maybe you can take over when Woody leaves. Fife said that is not necessarily why he took the job (obviously would be open to it). Woody will have to learn the college game. It was interesting that his tone was he’d have to tell Woody some stuff. Parents are a big difference between college and pros. Told a story about his own dad being upset when he didn’t play at Purdue his freshman year. IU won but Mr Fife, himself a coach, wanted to blame the staff. Dane stood up to his dad and told him he had been sucking at practice. Dane says this kind of thing gives him insight into the players’ thought process. This is Indiana. We are esteemed and aren’t going to beg any players to come back or to be recruited. In recruiting you have to be honest. Tell the player the truth and what they need to work on. Gave an example of Xavier Tillman. Tillman didn’t like their honesty but his mom loved it. Next assistant coach might have IU ties. Fife seemed to like that idea but it was vague. Told some stories about being recruited by Knight. Fife was also a top QB in high school so Knight tried to convince him he had a better shot in basketball. Dakich said Knight tried to say at 6’5 he wasn’t big enough to play QB in the NFL which didn’t make sense. Fife said Knight showed him his calf and told Fife he would get broken in half because he didn’t have calves like that. Fife said Knight compared him to Randy Wittmann. Fife talked to Randy today and told him be thinks Knight meant as a coach.19 points

Not gonna go crazy in detail, but I am led to believe Armaan is back, Race is not.15 points

I'm guessing if you knew everything a player at IU did you wouldnt have anyone to root for from the past.15 points

I don't know anything about Armaan nor Race. Yesterday I heard Lander was going to share the news and he did. Today I heard the Xavier stuff. If I hear anything I will be sure to share here.14 points

By the way, I was thinking about CC and Mile. I think they might be surprised by the turn in events and the resulting unbridled enthusiasm. I’m sure they would have been excited. Tragic that they aren’t here with us. RIP12 points

By this time next year, we will appreciate how huge this is. Geronimo is going to be a player.12 points

Best line about the parents and social media... "If you're going to get on social media and complain about the coaches without talking to us, then you can take your son and leave. We'll win with or without you."11 points

This is true. When I pulled up weather.com earlier today, there were 7 ads for divorce attorneys just on the page with the 10 day forecast.11 points

Wow, this is continuously mentioned by players/parents. As fans, our eyes were not deceiving us. The players were more frustrated than we were.... (Lander's dad speaking on Woody/Kristian) “He doesn’t want somebody bouncing the ball 10 times at the top of the key calling sets,” Keith said of Woodson. “We were watching the video saying, ‘That’s what we think it should look like.’ We didn’t have that this year for whatever reason. He wants his guards to be more in attack mode. Making plays, dropping it down to the bigs when the defense collapses. He wants his point guards to initiate things and not be in sets all the time.” @The Daily Hoosier As always, thanks for being part of HSN. Good stuff, as usual.11 points

I expect KB to enter portal and become a Hoosier. I dont know anything on the Xavier Johnson front but trust @RoadToZion and his info. I think Franklin comes back but have not heard anything at all. He met with coach yesterday so we should know any time I would think. I can't imagine coach will wait to long. Staff is LOOKING to get better10 points

Ads are typically "picked" by the person seeing the ad, based on your browsing history. So to flip the question, why did you get targeted with an ad for shaving your balls?10 points

This was posted somewhere.. I'm too lazy to find it exactly... I understand meeting the Woodson hiring with skepticism, I was in that boat at the very beginning (before he was hired). But.. so far he's checked every, single, box. I realize these were the simplest of hurdles, but every house has to have a foundation. This is ours. I think at minimum IU fans should all feel "more content" than this time last week.9 points

It has become a recurring theme since he was announced as head coach just over a week ago. “Coach Woodson just seemed to answer all the questions correctly" https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/khristian-lander-sees-obvious-fit-in-mike-woodsons-offense/9 points

Wonder if they got together with the basketball gods and told them to get their crap together. Then got sidetracked with conversations about the Jeffries rule and Indonesian hookers.8 points

The Baylor that I watched last night perfected the high-screen and roll, and created mismatches that their guards were able to take advantage of. To make that system work, you need multiple guards who can not only hit the 3, but can create off the dribble and get to the rim. They also have to be unselfish and give the ball up to the screener/roller when the play dictates. Baylor had all those components. I think Landers can become that guy. I think that Aarman is probably as close as we have to that guy now, but if he doesn't come back, we're going to have a pretty big hole to fill. Leal will become a good outside threat, but I don't think he'll ever become a guy to drive and create. We need a couple more of what Baylor had last night.8 points

Well appears my guy was right on. Thats the first name he gave me but the same guy said look to the NBA for our next coach not named Stevens. 2 for 2. i didnt believe him but i guess i'll listen closer.8 points

All I've got to say on any thread is, isn't it fun to be excited again about IU basketball?8 points

I have gotten behind Crean and Archie as they came in. I also gave them the benefit of the doubt for years. At the end of the day, Crean ended up being a different coach than I expected and I overestimated Archie at this time and place. But I was optimistic on both because I’m a fan and what is the point otherwise? But I have to say, I’m on another level of optimistic this time as compared with the last two. Woodson has been impressive in his approach. I believe he’s working hard already based on the film he’s already broken down and all his meetings with players and coaches. He’s got the right priorities. But it’s more than that. We have an AD with a background in sports now. We have hired people like Matta and Fife which gives us a very smart and talented brain trust. So this feels different. Maybe it’s in part that we were burned and beaten around a bit and then we had Brad calling himself a Masshole. So it turned out ok and we are kind of exhaling. But, in the end, I think we are finally on the right track. Will it materialize in recruiting and on the court? That remains to be seen but I’m unusually optimistic this time. And if it goes well, we have Fife in waiting and we will never have to mention Brad’s name again in a coaching search other than to laugh at the past. I always thought Brad was beyond reproach and an impeccable character. But that Masshole thing was so abnormal and bizarre, it’s nice to see he can crack too and he’s human. But I can’t see his name coming up again, which will be a huge plus.7 points

If Armaan stays, Xavier comes over, add in Parker, Lander, Rob.... We suddenly become a guard oriented team that succeeds in today's game. Add the best big in the conference and we have something worth watching.7 points

I don't pay any attention to what bloggers say. I listen to players and those close to the players and we all know that relationship that TJD has with KB and we also know why Dad picked UK. What I hear is that may not be able to admit that he was wrong may still finally allow KB to decide what is best for him. More than 1 player wants him here and they let him know and the feeling i hear is mutual. Cal still trying to sell him UK is the best fit. IMO from all that I put together if it does not happen in the next week he will be at UK. Not his choice if that is how it shakes out. Here is to hoping Dad does whats best for his son7 points

Good for him. Electrical engineering and playing major college ball. Very impressive. I’m in a related field and all I can say is he will be in high demand by employers.6 points

Here's my post for the day before going out to enjoy these temps. Can't believe how wrong I was about the Woodson hire. Every single thing he's done so far has exceeded my expectations.6 points

NO!!!!! Guards, space, 3s, movement!! lol I can't go another season watching offense just dump it in the post every possession.6 points

I hope his methods are seriously reviewed if he stays. There's a YouTube video of him and the IU basketball players. I sent it to a friend who is a UW (Wisconsin) trainer with a national reputation himself. He was not impressed: "There are a lot of things wrong here. Straining to lift, arching the back during bench press. Having players surround the lifter and clap and yell. (Incorrect lifting form) leads to injury." Clif's Indiana bio page is mostly about the NFL. Okay, but our basketball team finished 211th in the country for FG%. 237th in 3-point shooting. 191st in scoring. Maybe a football trainer whose bio brags about sending guys to the NFL and who followed Archie from Dayton isn't the best person for our basketball team. Or maybe he is. I'm sure the new staff will sort it out. In any case, please no more Tweets about how ripped our guys are. Tonight's NCAA championship has two teams with top 5 shooting stats. Let's work on that. Go IU!6 points

Of course. It makes perfect sense that the guy who won the national championship would leave his school to come to an irrelevant program and take the job nobody wants anymore, perhaps just because Jeff Goodman tweets about that job hourly, even 9 days after it's been filled.5 points
-
Goodman needs to get over the fact that his buddy Archie was fired, it's starting to get a little creepy and obsessive. For being "irrelevant" he sure does talk about IU a lot.5 points

Agreed. I think CMW was low on most people's list, including myself, and I'll admit I was disappointed in the hire and have been very pleasantly surprised by everything that has happened so far. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "negative" reaction, just more surprised that it wasn't someone else.5 points

He seems like the prototypical NBA wing that you'd think would thrive with Woodson. Obviously we don't know firsthand what Woodson's development skills are like yet, but you'd think a guy like Geronimo would be the perfect fit for Woodson.5 points

Maybe I am just biased by the feedback I was hearing on the day he was announced, but it was like 80-20 negative.5 points

Scott Dolson is killing it. The resources he’s put behind football has led to a really good staff and they are in hot pursuit of a number of top prospects. But this approach to basketball has to be exceeding expectations for every single one of us. This is what it looks like when you have competent leadership. We are so far removed from that, it’s hard to believe. Fife is a major coup. Rising coach and now we have really good intel on the conference. He’s a good recruiter too. He has a dynamic personality, the kind that can lead a program. Plus, we now are developing top notch internal candidate for the next coach. Continuity can be developed. A culture, clear definition, and vision for IU basketball can return. Dolson is a sports guy and you can see that he gets it. Major props.5 points

The whole point about 42 in conference percent as opposed to 38 percent overall is this, He got better as the season went along. The ACC is not exactly a low major conference4 points
