  1. This man accepted his actions and appears to be supporting his child. While he performed the act it isn’t easy being a parent of a kid while also going to college, and I know this first hand from my own experience. He could have taken the other route like others have chosen and instead seems to have embraced his duties as a father. Good on him, more should do the same. If anything this kid is going to give him focus unlike he ever had. Set me on the right path after mine was born.

  2. Maybe I'm being naive here, but maybe Reneau coming is something that helps encourage TJD to stay another year instead of it being a sign he is going to leave. He's already cemented himself as a fan fave for a lot of people -- the only thing he hasn't really done is won the Big Ten and gone deep into the tournament. Maybe being surrounded by all of this young talent and someone who he could be a mentor to is appealing to him. Or I'm just trying to think it into existence 🙂

  6. Love this commitment and I think this is a sign of things to come. Helps establish good pipelines with prep schools, but also lets everyone know nationally that IU can recruit again. Welcome aboard Malik, thrilled to have you as a Hoosier!

  8. Yeah I just don't want to see Duncomb get the boot. He's such an intriguing guy. Freakishly long. Could be a menace defensively by his junior and senior year. Having 13 scholarships, we aren't going to recruit 4 and 5 star guys that are willing to wait around for 2 to 3 years before they get PT. Having a guy like Duncomb that is (presumably) fine with his role right now could pay big dividends in the coming years.

  9. I can't believe I'm doing this (defending a Turdue grad) but @Purdue7 is about as fair as you can get for a fan of a rival. In fact, if all fans were as even-handed as Purdue7, it would be hard to maintain a fierce rivalry. Not to worry...mega-douches like twindegrees and abugabby keep the fires stoked quite nicely.

  11. Perhaps my favorite (sorry, not sorry) post from that board came from abugabby the morning after they lost to Virginia. He said after Cline made the first free throw to put Purdue up by 3, he got down on his knees and started to weep. His daughter asked him why he was crying, and he said he was finally about to see them make the Final Four. It's a rather extreme case of schadenfreude, not afraid to admit it, but I'll always appreciate Virginia for delivering that improbable, soul-crushing defeat that will no doubt continue to fuel the cynicism and paranoia of Purdue fans for years to come.

  15. SIAP but I love this interview... The highlights... "the fans are just insane all over Bloomington. They love their basketball. They’re always greeting the players. It was just a great feeling knowing that the fans are behind you.” "A lot people came up to me and greeted me as if they knew me and stuff. It was just a great feeling to have people feel they know you and are always going to come up to you and support you on the court and off the court.” “Definitely develop my body. Get stronger, get powerful, be able to move laterally quicker. And on the court, I want to be able to contribute early in my career. I want to be able to produce and make good contributions to the team. And I want to win the Big Ten and I want to win a national championship when I’m there.” “I’m a winner. I feel like I do anything on the court that needs to be done to win the game." That word "win" is used an awful lot by our new kid...

  16. I am super excited that Malik committed. I fully believe that this recruiting class is the beginning of IU returning to prominence. I view Malik and JHA as the linchpins of this momentum. All that said. I am not going to disrespect any players currently on the roster by suggesting that they are or should be gone. These guys have put their hearts into getting the program back to the tournament, back to respectability. Every player on the roster committed to being a Hoosier for multiple years, and many of them recommitted to CMW when they easily could have gone elsewhere. I am never going to overlook loyalty. Never going to overlook commitment. I get it that college athletics is becoming more like professional sports, and it’s survival of the fittest. Leaving it to the coaches to figure this out, but I don’t want to see players being “escorted out.”

  17. I don’t see this happening, if at all. Money is still money and people don't like to give it up when they don't have too. Athletes are sometimes the most like that. They always want free stuff and to get theirs while they can since the window to capitalize isn't as long. I can't see a player offering to pay their own way, dipping into their own pocket, when they don't have too. Why would you give up a scholarship which would take money out of your NIL deals? I just don't see it happening, and that didn't even get into playing time when you have 14-15 scholarship-quality players.

  19. 😂 What is a Trailer City? Who's players are paid for? It was mentioned our recruiting would suffer as a result of losing DANE FIFE!?! lololol The one thing I have never understood in this whole discussion/argument/whatever. Why isn't Woodson considered the Knight guy? because you know, he actually is a Knight disciple and Dane Fife isn't? I thought that is one of the things we wanted in a coach? A Knight guy. So knowing that Woodson is the ACTUAL Knight guy and not Dane Fife, why aren't more on his side? Just makes no sense. Whatever. That board was weird man. Weird people. Just overly mad, inferiority complex bothered people posting on that board.

  21. And just a reminder that Duncomb was a 4 star rated 73. He may be physically immature for the B1G and may have had a hiccup at a fraternity or wherever but he's not a bum project off the street and comes from a very good high school program in Ohio. I don't know how the numbers work but it would certainly be wild if a guy dropped his scholarship and picked up NIL. I'd say it's highly unlikely as over the years these boards have come up with some of the wildest ideas of players parents have money so they could pay their own way and that has happened exactly ZERO times. But nil is wild and fans is short for fanatic.

  23. Agree here. LD kind of reminds me of a Bo Ryan type of big. People might forget that he’s on the roster, then out of nowhere, he puts together formidable junior and senior seasons. Maybe not, but he does intrigue me.

  24. I think its hard for many to take that Dane, whom many wanted instead of CAM, wasn't what they expected. I personally never understood the Dane Fife love as a coach or even as a player. He wasn't a favorite of mine. I also never understood the we need an Indiana/Knight guy at the helm and I am/was a coach Knight fan when he was actually coaching. I have always wanted IU to open the pocketbook to unfathomable amounts of money and get the best possible coach available or purchasable. I am still not sold on Coach Woodson's ability to coach us to a National title. But i have been very impressed with his ability to recruit at such a high level and having high level talent does make coaching easier in the end . Can't wait to see how the next few years turn out.

  28. I don’t think we get McNeil. However, if Kopp was shooting how we all “think” he should we wouldn’t even be looking. He didn’t do that last year and it hurt us severely. He didn’t hold up on his end in the shooting department. We bring on another non shooter who is great on defense that’s good defense travels, but still missing a sniper. Not sold on Kopp at all. Maybe he will be better next year, but I don’t expect to see a much different player in year 5 of college.

  29. Duncomb is definitely not the first guy I want moving on if TJD is back and McNeil and/or DD come. I think he has a lot of upside and can see a scenario of a future lineup where he starts.

  30. There’s still 11 or 12 days players can enter the portal. I’m sure there’s a plan in place. Otherwise there would be no reason to continue recruiting

  39. Indiana was ranked 24th on D with Kopp and Stewart playing 25 minutes per game. It’s not as needed as a shooter. Dennis was horrible offensively with a PER of 12.9 during his time at WSU. He doesn’t solve our horrendous shooting and our 95th ranked offense. Indiana has an issue here with lacking shooters and two bigs who have not proven to be able to shoot the ball as well. It makes us easier to guard when we just dump it down because teams can leave players alone.

  40. We need shooters more then we need defense. His last three seasons he shot 29.7 and twice 33.6 while averaging 8.4 PTS. Yes his defense would be a plus but his offense leaves a lot to be desired. Having an athletic wing is nice but having shooters would open the floor up so much more for our bigs. His fg% the last three seasons is 35.3 36.7 and 34.8, not exactly stellar. We would be gaining defense but not much on the offensive end. If they do bring him in it is whatever, but I don't think he would move the needle much for the Hoosiers.

  42. BTW, anyone in need of some sour grapes, go to Rupp Rafters or Black and Gold Illustrated. Both have a separate topic just about little old IU and our recruiting... You can practically smell the fear... And, this really has nothing to do with us, but I thought it was funny...

  43. Malik has long arms and a sturdy frame. His athleticism doesn't jump of the page, but I think it will improve in our program. I saw him play Michigan recruit Tarris Reed (Link Academy) in the Geico Nationals, and he played Reed very well on the defensive end...and had the upper hand on offense as well... Malik is very tricky down low. I love his footwork and patience. I think even as a freshman he can make an impression...

  44. Congratulations to Tamar and his girlfriend. That is one beautiful baby! There's a special bond between fathers and daughters. His time will be at a premium between school, basketball, and his family. But he seems like the kind of man who's up to the challenge...

  45. I hesitated awhile before saying anything on the matter because I was concerned about being misunderstood... I hope your experience is the same for Tamar. I just get a little concerned about a 19-year-old father being mature and focused enough to keep everything in balance. Children are a blessing and those are pictures of a sweet little girl that Tamar should rightly treasure. I just hope he's up to the task of being a good father to that little girl. Too many kids grow up in single parent households because one party or both simply didn't have the maturity to deal with parenthood when their child was born. Likewise, Tamar needs to be ready to step up on the court and I hope his daughter is an inspiration to do so. I'd be lying if I said this last season met my expectations for him.

  46. Player comp: Moussa Diabate, PF for Michigan this past year. Former 5-star who Averaged 9ppg/6reb as a Frosh. Beats people with quickness, hustle and finishing around the rim. Tireless worker on the boards. Leaves it all effort on the court. very excited to see what Malik can do!
