Banks and Gunn were not serviceable players at this level. Recruitment rankings are wrong all the time. Look where each of them ended up...one went to arguably the worst P5 school and the other is at a non power 5 school. They were not good. End of a 2 year story.

I just don't see another guard or win coming here with us ready having Rice, Carlyle, Galloway, Cupps,Newton, Leal plus MM and Tucker.
A good player who is confident in his skills will want to play with other good players.

Current names to know are Zach Anderson, Leland Walker, Ben Humrichous, and Elijah Malone(he might be looking for a bigger role but isn’t for sure out of the picture yet)
You’re going to probably have a mystery guy as well. Usually happens.

It’s not as easy as some thought it would be to fill out the bench
I don’t think anyone thought it would be easy. People want playing time. I don’t think you have to be a college coach to know that. Everyone is dealing with the same thing.

If we add Carlyle to the group we should be top 20, competing for a conference title and at least a 2nd weekend team. This is Woodson's 4th year and he would tell you this needs to be a 2nd weekend team. One thing we still need is a bona-fide shooter, I'm optimistic we land one.

Ballo will visit Arkansas

Depends. If Ballo demands a double team from opponents, similar to Edey, there may be a ton of shots for a guy like Leal. Depends on the defensive scheme of opponents. Fletcher Loyer was a high volume shooter this season but I suspect he'll have far fewer open shots next year, and will take less..Anyway, I agree that we need to find a better backup shooting guard and I think we will.
Agreed. I do as well.

Rolls do change year to year. Leal doesn’t create his own shot, but if you have people who create shots for him, he can be a 5 ish attempt kind of catch and shoot guy
I agree roles change year to year but if Anthony Leal’s role changes to where he’s putting up an average of 4x the amount of shots he did on average last year then he either made an ungodly type of leap in skill or we didn’t address our needs. It’s a moot point anyway because more than likely, Leal won’t be seeing huge minutes and we will fill our backup guard spot with someone better.

Thst could be his role. If we have a couple dynamic guards, his role would be to run to the corner as fast as he can and stand there. They would absolutely have to guard him. Floor spacer.
Yes…the Miller Kopp stand in the corner role. Thats a low volume shooting role.

He shot 47% from three last year. Just need to get him more shots.
Leal’s not a high volume shooter, nor is he supposed to be…that’s not his role. Leal should not be playing significant minutes next year. If he is, then we didn’t address the needs like we hoped.

Worst case scenario give 5th year Senior Anthony Leal those 15 mpg and we're still good imo.
Differing opinions but I think if Leal is playing 15mpg then we didn’t address our shooting needs. Regardless, I think Woodson addresses the issue.

Not arguing , he's gone for whatever reason. still 7 open schollys and 4 players gone. Not everyone came back like some are trying to say.
It’s very probable a couple of those 4 players were nudged out. You have to remove some to be better. I for one, was over the Gunn and Banks show and feel we will be better for it.

You’re spot on because think about this:
We probably need 7 to 8 new players:
Returning players most likely:
Newton (injured all year)
Galloway
Leal
Sparks (unfortunately)
Cupps (maybe)
Mgbako (fingers crossed he comes back)
Reneau (debating accepting our NIL Offer so 50/50)So at minimum we have 8 open scholarships
Plus for 2025:
We are guaranteed next year to lose
Galloway
Leal
Sparks
Mgbako
And probably Reneauand zero 2025 commits.
let’s say 4 of the 8 new players we get have eligibility remaining in 2025 then after next year we will need 9 new players.
Nudge Sparks out unless he’s willing to become a preferred walk - on. Who cares if he’s willing to be 12th or 13th man…he’s taking up NIL and a scholarship that we could allocate elsewhere. He’s simply not a high major player. It’s now or never.

All we need to know is Woodson thinks his offensive system is good…and in his words…”we just didn’t hit enough shots.”
Totally clueless!

They've also spent hundreds of hours in practice. Sorry, just don't buy the narrative that these two needed more time. They were in the program for 2 years. We're more talented now because they are gone.
