Why isn't the rest of the world nearly as worried? Their percentages are LOW.

Either way.. 7% of the country is impressive in a months time.

I'm not sure you're qualified to speak for the rest of the world, but since you're talking about Canada - here are a few articles about Trudeau and his stance on the vaccine (I searched "Trudeau vaccine" fwiw):

    Quote

“Elevated case counts and severe illness trends remind us we are still in a right race between vaccines and variants and our actions matter,” said Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam.

Not saying you guys are fear mongering but there are certainly some who are.

I don't think anyone is saying we aren't vaccinating quickly - I think we objectively are - but COVID variants don't care how quick we are and don't give participation trophies.  I'm not a doctor, but my understanding is we're in a race against time for a variant that is different enough and/or resistant to the vaccine, which would start this whole process over again.  So we need to go quicker.  And if we can go quicker, we need to go even quicker than that.

We're having conversations about vaccine hesitancy because it's a very real concern and there have been numerous stories over the past weeks about vaccines going unused.  That's notable, IMO.

I have not encountered too many that have not gotten the vaccination. To me it just does not make sense not too.

I wasn't going to share but I will. On Saturday I was at the deli and a lady who previously cut me off in her Lexus SUV came up and knew a guy also in line and said thank God we don't have to wear the masks anymore. Its so stupid and just another way of the damn Democrats trying to control us. She was like once they said it was not mandatory never would I put in on again.

I get my turkey and turn around and she sees I have my mask on and in a very condescending voice she says oh Im sorry did my comments offend you. Without thinking or stopping myself I replied, I was a teaching for 20 years I am more than used to hearing ignorant comments on a daily. I winked and walked off.

The funniest part is - in Indiana, her perception of which party is enacting these (necessary, correct) measures isn't even right!

  4. I feel like some of the disagreement here about if the NBA or CBB is better isn't truly about which one is better/more popular (because that answer is abundantly clear), but is instead a thinly veiled argument about other things.  That's a bit depressing.

edit: better as in better level of talent, not necessarily a better viewing experience.

  5. I am curious how much of the downturn is vaccine complacency (e.g. I won't go out of my way to get it, but if you show up to my house I'll gladly take it) versus vaccine hesitancy (I am reluctant to get the vaccine for XYZ reasons).

Don't get me wrong, it is clear from polling and media reporting that the latter exists, but I think a ton of the lack of demand is the former as well.

  6. The article mentions this, but the mass vaccination sites were likely always going to be about the first wave of willing, eager recipients.  Now the grind starts - getting them into local doctor's offices (places of trusted care), local pharmacies, that sort of thing.  Mobile clinics to go home-to-home for those who are willing but lack the time/resources to get somewhere.

Now it's a block-by-block battle against time and variants.

  7. While it’s disappointing to see the pause, perhaps this is useful evidence to show to those who are hesitant - even at astronomically low rates of side effects, they are being taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

this isn’t a “rushed process” - this is careful oversight IMO.
