Woodson gets to prove his mettle so quickly with recruiting. It’s unlike any coaching change ever. Have to think it factored into Dolson’s two big decisions (to make a change/who to hire) and if he’s right, we will know... right now.

Hello, loyal following!
As you've noticed, we've had a little bit of downtime recently. It came on two of the most important days, too! The truth of the matter is that our site has grown substantially over the last 12 months. On a normal day, 90%+ of the traffic we receive is from unregistered members (hey, lurkers - register and get posting!) who want to see the new, exciting conversations happening. On a day where we have massive news, thousands of people will instantly flock to the site to catch up. Servers are by rule poorly set up for such immediate, massive traffic spikes.
While I dabble as our server administrator, I am in truth poorly qualified for the task. Self-taught would be putting my skills kindly. To that end, we've invested into a retainer for a server administrator. Their firm helped get us back up both times and is now on call 24/7. We've also added to our server size.
In the interests of full transparency: previously, our entire server costs were $30/mo, which I happily paid and just considered akin to a bar tab. Our monthly costs now run $200/mo. That's still relatively cheap for a site our size, but a bit of a bigger hit to my pocket book. Additionally, we paid a few hundred to get back up.
Many of you have noted a willingness to chip in to help operating costs - as you can see on the sidebar, that functionality is now enabled. All costs will go towards operating expenses and any excess will sit in reserve for future server outages. If we build too big of a reserve, we'll shut off the donation function.
Feel free to direct any particular questions to me via PM. Thanks to everyone for your support!

Hi all - this is something I need to be cognizant of too, but we don't really need to tell others how to think. I'm on the optimistic/positive side just generally as a person, but if someone is a bit more negative and sour - that's their right, so long as they aren't breaking the rules. Calling them out on being negative isn't breaking the rules either, per se, but we generally prefer to debate someone's point, not the particular poster. Otherwise, we just get into a back-and-forth where posters try to be mind readers about someone else's motivations or feelings. That never goes well.

Time will tell with this hiring. It doesn’t matter what we say today. But, I do think Dolson comes across really well. It’s not just that he’s affable and has a smooth personality. He’s also all business. You can see why he raises money extremely well. But he has a sports background and he seems to get it. He’s a lifer. I recognize that nothing gets decided today on success vs failure. This will all play out.
Agree that Dolson just has that “it” factor that makes me feel like I should trust him.

We will see very, very quickly just how good or not good Woodson is at recruiting, which is probably the most important part of all of this. I'd suggest people let our own transfers + potentially transfers from other teams play out. If he sucks, it'll be quite plainly obvious IMO.

I'm excited for normalcy too, but normalcy may be a bit of a misnomer: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-03-24/when-will-covid-end-we-must-start-planning-for-a-permanent-pandemic?sref=Yg3sQEZ2&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_content=business&cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business

I was driving when the server hit the fan - can someone recap the last 6 hours? Any early player news or anything? tl;dr?

I mean it’s such a bad hire dolson needed to hire a baby sitter in Matt’s. I wish he would have just hired Matta as head coach. I take back my apologies to dolson he is just a yes man what a slime ball I hate it
What an incredible amount of assumptions you make so flippantly, and with no real evidence, in only three sentences.

This is very new news, and somewhat unexpected to a lot of people. Some of you guys are going to need to give people some time to vent. We’ve gone from the guy that would have been the perfect hire being a done deal to hiring someone who has never coached in college.
When the time comes, I’d wager the vast majority of those disappointed will support Woodson and his staff.
My post came off a bit preachier than I intended, and I totally get what you’re saying - there are a small minority who seem to cherish finding negative angles about every piece of IU news. Perhaps I should be more liberal with my ignore button lol

Literally none of our feelings will make one iota of a difference. Not supporting the program (its players, coaches, etc) WILL make a huge difference. The team and recruits will recognize.
Woodson has been an NBA coach for quite a while. It sounds like he’s going to be overseen or assisted by Matta, himself quite an accomplished coach. And he’s an IU guy.
IU stands to benefit significantly from the NIL money players can now make. It matters to me a great deal more that we have a forward thinking approach to fully helping players capitalize on all of our collective IUBB mania/fandom. Scott Dolson didn’t ask for my opinion and the job is done, so I can be underwhelmed but it seems like some of you enjoy being mad more than anything else. If this all makes you so angry, maybe it isn’t really a hobby.

Got my shot Tuesday. Arm was a little sore, felt fine. Headed back for the second Pfizer dose in about two weeks.
good luck to all still hunting for an appointment! The process was painless for me.

Getting my first dose soon. I'm young (28) and in good health, but AZ allows anyone to volunteer as crowd control/etc for those in line to get the shot. After your shift, you get your first shot and an appointment for your second. I'm excited! After hearing about the potential long-term complications from COVID, I would be so disappointed if I got it right at the very end of this pandemic.

Yeah demand is about to go through the roof, IMO.

Looking forward to the day we can lock this thread. I feel like we should have a small ceremony or something.

Wonderful to see the timelines for vaccine availability being pushed up. Truly a miracle of medical achievement that many people - Trump, Biden, Fauci, a whole lot of brilliant doctors - deserve credit for.

Tried some new ones over the weekend while in AZ. Went to Four Peaks. Have had their kiltlifter many a times but wasn't impressed with much else. The Phoenix Beer Co, on the other hand, had a several nice ones. I saw this one and had to try it. Was surprised by how good it was.

Even smelled like white chocolate. A really great tasting lighter beer.
If you're an IPA guy (or if others are), the Four Peaks Hop Knot is a go to.

how fun! May is goregous. I'm unfortunately a bit underwhelmed by the local beer but venturing west does bring us closer to CA and CO, which have tremendous beer IMO and thus most bars have those at the very least.
I live in Phoenix, so unfortunately my knowledge of Scottsdale is a bit on the smaller side, but a few recommendations:
OHSO is wonderful - huge patio, good bar food, and I'm a fan of the beer selection.
Hula's Modern Tiki is a fun Hawaiian fusion that has an all day happy hour on Wednesday which... coincidentally.. is today now that I think about it.
Wren House comes highly recommended, but I haven't been.
Arizona Wilderness in downtown Phoenix is new and has a huge tap list and their beer is really solid.
Four Peaks is probably the most notable AZ brewery. Good, not amazing.
San Tan and Huss are both pretty solid.
AS FOR MEXICAN FOOD:
If you're interested in authentic Mexican tacos, I recommend Tacos Chiwas or Tacos Huichos. I've done... extensive research. La Santisima is a wonderful authentic joint with tacos/burritos/etc.
People rave about Diego Pops in Scottsdale. Blanco Tacos/Tequila is good and a bit more "mainstream" than the authentic places above.
Feel free to PM me if you come across particulars and want some feedback.
