I know what your saying…but if Fife and Woodson believes this kid has the goods, we’ll I trust their judgement. There isn’t anyone they’ve brought onboard that I haven’t been impressed with.

I don't think that was his point.

I think Little was brought to IU's attention.  It wasn't because IU was out there watching a bunch of kids in Finland and looking for one to be worth recruiting.  I haven't seen anyone question the staff's judgment over going after Little.

The questioning was in regards to whether or not it would be worth our time and effort to actively search for another player from Finland.  The more time you spend there (26-28 hours round trip by plane + whatever time is spent there), the less time you are spending in other areas looking for recruits.  One could imagine that the rate of return of spending our time and resources going to Finland could be better spent elsewhere.....unless we get notice again of another prospect being worth going after...like the Little situation.

Time is valuable in recruiting.  Unless you have a known target to go after, I don't see scouting Finland as being the go to strategy.

We really don’t have one extra scholarship to take both? With injuries and the transfer portal your QB room can’t be too big and Sorsby seems like an absolute wild card anyway

Sorsby was offered after the staff watched wydner throw.  Doesn't sound like they want him.

  3. I'm not sure you can count on him moving to another position if QB doesn't work out.  Could just as easily transfer if we try that.

Glad it looks like we may be able to add a good QB or at least one that looks good.  Interesting that we are going after mobile QB here but picked an immobile transfer QB.

Except when your 1 and 2 QBs get hurt. Depth year by year with change, but depth every year is important.

My post was meant from a recruit's perspective.  It would be very difficult to figure out which school would lead to the easiest path to playing time given that the school could easily pick up a transfer qb later on or on the flip side have a bunch of injuries or transfers out.

As someone mentioned, our transfer ranking is number one.  And that’s with a few more guys pending, including potentially a couple of LB or bull types.  This is no small feat.  The beauty of it is you let another program develop a player through the early ups and downs and then hopefully benefit from the more developed player.  Great opportunity for IU.  And that’s without even talking about our best recruiting class in the rankings era.

On the flip side, it is generally players that weren't able to secure a starting spot with their old team or got passed on the depth chart.

Maybe a higher floor / lower ceiling type of deal.

Is this guy an upgrade over McCulley and Tuttle?

Seems like Missouri fans didn’t think much of him

I guess he can't run very fast and his deep ball is not very accurate.  Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade over Tuttle.

I thought Bell liked dual threat QBs for his offense.  Maybe McCulley is still the likely starter and this was just a depth signing.

Now, what about this transfer QB, Phommachanh? Still visiting today?

Well, if we get Phommachanh, then we would have 2 slow QBs and 2 dual threat QBs.  Guess we would have both options.

Although I'm guessing our QB spot is lot less enticing to other QBs in the portal so would be surprised if we get another transfer unless it's a freshman transfer.

  8. The kid from Incarnate Word went to HS that mostly ran the ball.  Most colleges wouldn't take a chance on him since they didn't know how good of a passer he was.   So he went to Incarnate Word to prove that he could pass and not just run.

  9. I'm guessing a lot of people got frustrated with him for the 2nd half of the wisconsin disaster.  Drive into a defense and throw up an awkward prayer shot over and over.  I think everyone knew the refs weren't going to bail him out with foul call and doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a better result is the definition of insanity.

Who knows? Tanner Bailey is not a transfer, but a 22’ decommit from Oregon. I’m sure there are others. You gotta have plan A, B, C, D,….etc. lol

the other day, Allen said he wanted a transfer QB and a freshman QB.   I was assuming 1 of each..

  11. saw one poster think this might mean mcculley could test the waters if we bring in a qb transfer.   If mcculley goes, then cooper may go as well.

Even if we get a qb transfer and bailey, I would think McCulley has the ability to win the #2 spot behind the transfer QB.   Unless he goes down a level, I'm not sure he will be guaranteed anything better than that.

Plus, he should be well aware of how quickly the backup can become the starter.

Nope. Tonight is more of a ceremony. The team can’t post these edits until the NLI is submitted to the school.

Seems like there has been NLI's signed prior to making the announcement in the past.  Just hoping he didn't want it to be a surprise.
