And again.. everyone is going to look fine playing with TJD. (Kopp), but TG can get his own on his own. He doesn't necessarily need TJD for that. Stewart and Kopp need more help to succeed, but they offer a skill set, generally, that the other don't have.

I, too, am floored we are still having this discussion.

I believe that your best 5 should be what you start the game with and the best 5 from the first half should be what starts the second half.

I'm not sure why we are hoping that we can get the best out of Kopp and Stewart so that we can put off as long as possible having our best group on the floor.

Perhaps Rob and Galloway both prefer to come off the bench.

They made more 3's (at a higher percentage), they made more FG's (at a higher percentage), out rebounded us, AND limited our All-American to his lowest totals of the year. FT and turnovers where the difference but this time we were the team on the good side of those. Plus, we just wanted it more 😄

With a minute to go I was sure that FT% was going to be what broke it off in us.

I've been watching IU since 1982 and I can't recall a Turnover number that low.

I think he’s been to two games (Baylor and Villanova).   Both lost.

hopefully the trend doesn’t continue tomorrow!

I lived in Philadelphia for a year and I'm not sure why anyone would want to unless they were born there.

If we win the environment all that is Bloomington and our fan base would be far more impressive one would think than the other two visits. I would think in a close competitive game it would have similar results as well.

Yes but in this case we already signed the point guard that is feeding him the ball everyday. I'm sure he is in his ear all the time which gives us a free recruiter.

We have a long way to go yet and players this caliber in this era rarely commit early. I have to believe when it gets down to it, one of those three schools will be there with Duke, UNC and Kentucky. I wouldn't count Baylor either. I'm hoping the personal relationship his dad has with CMW keeps us in the hunt. I think this young man is legend at IU if he comes. He'll just be a great player at the other schools.

  5. I think I'd rotate Durr and Duncomb in on the big fella and make him earn his from the line. We certainly can't afford to have either Race or Trace in foul trouble. The rest of the positions on the floor,,,,at home,,,,I think we can be a handful for them to guard. More of an evolving Geronimo will be huge for us. I predict Rob will be big for us there.

I feel good about this one.

The problem is that both Trace and Race are out at the same time

    Agreed

I have no issue with JG 1st off the bench, with this starting line-up but unless its garbage time I can't imagine why would want to be without both Race and Trace.

At the 12 minute mark we JG with Trace, Galloway and Rob is solid. Give Bates a shot to get going but if not come back with Stewart.

  7. Point guard play, as good as it was last game, it was equally as bad tonight. This is where I normally pitch my argument for Galloway v. Kopp as a starter but I'll defer to the gentlemen being paid to make that decision and assume there's something about Kopps all around game and contribution to the 5 that he's a part of that makes him the more logical choice to START each half and not be a specialist off the bench where he could be plugged in against the other teams second unit which would probably have someone that he could f'n guard.

It was a road game...and we're not good enough to win against a mediocre conference team on their floor.....that simple. We have the talent to be, but we're not there yet.

The matchup that I'm concerned a little about is Kopp-Patrick McCaffery... Fran's younger kid isn't a bad ballplayer...

I'm concerned with every match-up in the Big Ten that we have Kopp in front of.

Good home win! I think it's about time that Galloway takes the starting role and we use Kopp off the bench as a shooter only in limited minutes. I don't think it's any coincidence that we played our best ball in the last 10 minutes of each half when Galloway took over for Kopp. Been the same story for the last two games. Trey is just a game changer for this team and needs to be on the court as much as possible.

    Agreed...

If Rob can continue to knock down the open shot he is going to make an argument as well.

A short bench of Rob, Kopp and Geronimo is a good mix with the occasional Durr siting.

    Prepare to be disappointed...

I think we've seen that Coach Woody isn't going to change the starting 5 unless someone is injured, did something that requires disciplinary measures, or the difference in play is just so stark, he has to change it...

    TJD

    Race

    Stewart

    Kopp

    XJ

I hope you're not right. I think there's a lot to be said for rewarding someone's play.

To answer one of my fellow posters, "What does TC have to do with it? " One of my many issues with him is that he had favorites and it would take an act of God to get a change in his line-up.

Someone else mentioned that we can't have non-shooters in the line-up as the argument for not having Trey in the first group instead of Kopp or Stewart. I believe the end result was on display already. Crisper ball movement and better team defense was what I was witnessing when we had Galloway on the floor. We are better with him on the floor than we are Kopp. No knock on Kopp. He just has to score 20 to contribute to a win what Galloway can with 5. You can substitute Stewarts name in for Kopp if you'd like.

I'm much more worried about the last 5.

I'm not sure Galloway is one of our 10 best basketball players but he's an important part of our most effective 5.

It will be disappointing to know that CMW has a Tom Crean approach to his starting line-up and rewarding performance, if Galloway didn't just earn a start.

  12. I have wanted to see Kopp as the 6th man. The problem I had, who replaces him in the line-up? Who's presence on the floor would show an obvious improvement in our teams play?

Pretty obvious after the first minute of Galloway getting into the game he could score half the points in the first unit as Kopp and make us twice the the team.

  13. I'm holding out hope that we are going to be a team that wins all of its home games, Purdue is a terrible match-up for us. If we can find a way to go .500 in conference that would be a feat.

I would like to start Rob, Stewart, Geronimo, Race and TJD and see what Jordan can do as our defensive stopper.
