Yeah, my post was more geared at the idea we’re letting A LOT of talent go elsewhere without putting much effort into them because they appeared to be less athletic/skilled than others. Give me a slightly less talented kid that can shoot and knows how to play the game vs a kid that has the so-called more potential that takes two years to develop. This isn’t the old style college formula anymore where you have 3-4 years to watch a kid development. There’s also something to be said about the kid that knows what IU basketball stands for, means a little more.

I understand what you are saying. Lots of misses lately. Can’t deny that. I just don’t know if you can win it all with mostly Indiana kids year in and year out. I think you can have a too much talent problem. Look at UK. They can score and score but can’t defend. I’m not sure kids truly know what IU basketball is anymore. Been a long time.

So you want the kids with more stars next to their name in every occasion no matter where they are from?

Don’t mistake best with stars. We see how a certain southern Indiana 5* turned out. You want talent whether they are from Indiana or Yemen.

    This!

This is the recruiting approach that Knight used to fuel three championships (along with GOAT coaching skills), and IMO, we began to drift away from it almost immediately after he left, and haven't ever really returned to it.

We got somewhat enamored with "stars" and "better athletes" and drifted away the formula that had been so successful. You definitely need talent, but it doesn't have to be 80% "5 star" talent.

87 team says hello. 3 indiana kids and only one played(Alford). You take the best and if it’s Indiana kids then cool. Indiana isn’t the hotbed it once was. You do get some players that have something to prove after getting snubbed.

Oh I bet Congress does too.  I wasn’t implying that Congress would do anything.  Can you point me to a court case that says otherwise?  I’m not trying to prove you wrong.  I just don’t recall it.

If congress wanted to get involved they would’ve already. The scotus already ruled. You think congress wants to pull power from the stats after an antitrust ruling? Especially over the failing NCAA grasping for power? No way. That’s not even my opinion. Lawyers are coming out of the woodwork to blast the NCAA. If I’m a betting man I’m betting Tennessee/Virginia gets this injunction and rather quickly.

States rights may not apply IF Congress wants to get involved.  Something about regulating interstate commerce which the business of intercollegiate athletics could easily fall under.  At least hypothetically.

The courts say otherwise. I bet congress stays out of this. The NCAA wants congress to get into this but congress isn’t in the business to hinder income of athletes. The NCAA is grasping at anything keeping them in power.

Tough to tell with Malik. Looked like an ankle, probably a sprain. Didn’t look horrible on the replay and he walked (limped) off the court on his own power, but those sort of injuries can linger.

The way he got stepped on though…happened to me and it broke my metatarsal. Hope it’s just a sprain.

Is there a difference between 2-4 these days?   Who you can defend then sure, but offensively there's little difference.

    I don't think there's a difference between a 2-3.

Depends. You have to defend those spots too not just “play” them. This is the reasons teams try to get you to switch. Take advantage of a slow 3 against a fast 2. So yes I don’t want a 2 guarding a 4 if I can help it. Liam has size but isn’t overly quick. He can probably switch on some 2-4. Mbako isn’t slower than Liam by much but struggles guarding 2 guards. He’s a natural 4 etc…

Exactly, McNeely very openly has said he wants to be a one and done.  So, according to script, the plan is he wouldn’t even be on the roster with Sisley.   McNeely also plays a lot of 2 guard in high school.   They roll out Queen, Flagg, Newell and McNeely together.  All four over 6’8.  A bit positionless but McNeely looked like the shooting guard.

Mcneely at the 2 on defense makes me nervous in college. Good guards and coaches would get the switch and put us in a bad spot. If he’s forced to play at the 2 I think it means Woodson didn’t do well recruiting guards again and McNeely wasn’t a one year player. Would not be good. Imho

For sure, although it sounds like we’re the team to beat for Daquan Davis and Sanon is taking a visit soon.

Not to mention, Galloway can come back for his Covid year. I think Gallo would do much better playing alongside a high volume shooter like Liam. Takes a lot of pressure off him to create and Gallo’s defense can help lead to some easy transition buckets for Liam.

One real positive thing is Sanon was seeking IU staff out. He wants them to recruit him.
