I can't help but think of this when I hear Durr's name...
-
and per his Twitter

Good point. Ypsi finds themselves ranked at 24 for next year nationally. No way they "Hold On" if Bates reclassifies and it's just Phillips. https://www.maxpreps.com/news/UlY211g3bUOwovPm4duUKA/high-school-basketball-rankings--montverde-academy-holds-at-no-1-in-way-too-early-2021-22-maxpreps-top-25.htm

Odd that he wouldn't wait it out to see if he got offers from them over committing when/where he did then. -

At least Kansas and Clemson are in on him as well unlike Smith's offers -

2022 Class Rankings and Discussion

The guys we're in on in '22 is impressive. https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Season/2022-Basketball/Targets/ Who's your #1? Mine is Jalen Washington. He seems like a poor man's Anthony Davis to me. I think if we get him, we'd be legit banner 6 contenders next year. -
See some Monta Ellis in him. What do you guys see?
-
His highlights are underwhelming, but a good backup plan if better targets fall through I'd think.
-
Forgot about the ketchup rumors. Seems like it will be Durr though.
-
Definitely would prefer Onu, but if he's not available, Durr would be a nice add especially to play against the Turdue bigs, especially Yao Ming's son.
-
Hard to find much news or video on Phillips. Pretty surprising for a top 100 recruit that plays with the #1 recruit.

How are things going in Athens?
cybergates replied to Fundamentals's topic in General Basketball Discussion
A former player who transferred out left b/c of the bolded parts. He said Crean catered to his star players (he played with Yogi) and took out his frustrations on the non-stars (even sometimes for things the star players did), so I'm not surprised that Yogi would have good things to say about him. He gave the keys to Yogi for 3 years and let him do what he wanted (1 excellent year and 2 mediocre years team-wise). -
Braden Smith Commits to Purdue
cybergates replied to The Daily Hoosier's topic in Basketball Recruiting
💯 Averaged that in Archie's hindering offensive sets (stand in the corner) with the injury and without being a "ballhog/diva/me-first" player (calls from fans/media to be more aggressive/take more shots). Only took 12.3 shots/game. -
It wouldn't be getting kicked off the team, it would be giving up your scholarship willingly to make the team better if you have the means to pay your own way. I agree that it is farfetched most (99%) of the time it is brought up. I don't know if it was here or BTB, but someone said that was the rumor floating around after Kopp took the last spot and Brooks was being discussed.

Plenty especially during the Creaning years Agreed see below It definitely is (or at least was) allowed. I know for a fact that JR Smith paid his brother Russ's way at UL in the later years. The rule that most people think of is you can't give academic scholarships to players who you recruited and/or had on scholarship previously. I have no idea if Leal's parents work for IU or not, and how any discount would play under the rules. ***Tried to find the story I remember of JR paying Russ's way and couldn't find anything other than they're not even related, so I must have fell for a rumor back in the day. Apologies!*** And as I stated in my OP, "I have no idea if any of that is remotely true."

It's an odd dynamic to be looking at people in the portal still with no open spots. I don't know why an IU player would plan on leaving but not be in the portal already allowing other schools/coaches to contact/scout them. The only thing I could see making sense is the rumor that Leal might go off scholly and pay his own way (at a discount since his parents work for IU). I have no idea if any of that is remotely true.
