  1. It wouldn't be getting kicked off the team, it would be giving up your scholarship willingly to make the team better if you have the means to pay your own way. I agree that it is farfetched most (99%) of the time it is brought up. I don't know if it was here or BTB, but someone said that was the rumor floating around after Kopp took the last spot and Brooks was being discussed.
  2. Plenty especially during the Creaning years Agreed see below It definitely is (or at least was) allowed. I know for a fact that JR Smith paid his brother Russ's way at UL in the later years. The rule that most people think of is you can't give academic scholarships to players who you recruited and/or had on scholarship previously. I have no idea if Leal's parents work for IU or not, and how any discount would play under the rules. ***Tried to find the story I remember of JR paying Russ's way and couldn't find anything other than they're not even related, so I must have fell for a rumor back in the day. Apologies!*** And as I stated in my OP, "I have no idea if any of that is remotely true."
  3. It's an odd dynamic to be looking at people in the portal still with no open spots. I don't know why an IU player would plan on leaving but not be in the portal already allowing other schools/coaches to contact/scout them. The only thing I could see making sense is the rumor that Leal might go off scholly and pay his own way (at a discount since his parents work for IU). I have no idea if any of that is remotely true.
  4. Sad but true overall but per 40 a bit better...fortunately for Lander he has a new coach, can't say the same for Morton. Boiler thinks he'll be better next year, from the few games I watched Turdue (vs IU and the one game in the NCAA), I don't see him getting much better stats with Ivey around. Ivey was good for a freshman, but in the games I watched he reminded me of a poor man's Kobe Bryant in his early years meaning he tries to do too much for where he's currently at.
  5. Some of the same people who wanted Smith I seem to remember really wanting Morton at IU for similar reasons (minus the in state part). Morton chose Turdue and as a recruit generated these stats...
  6. Wonder who it could be? My want would be Langston Wilson, but (a) he's not in the portal he just reopened recruitment, AND (b) I don't really want anyone to leave so there's no room for him.
  7. Bummer. Worst case scenario. Hope for his sake he's not Ethan Morton there.
  8. Searching for videos on youtube and came across this... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyps7stAwVshGUGYhpY-Jiw Kid looks like Spider-Man/Peter Parker actor and is doing Spider-Man/Tony Stark like stuff.
  9. With the addition of Bates, we're #19 on ESPN's class rankings, 3rd in the B1G behind UM and MSU. Add in the unaccounted for xfers of XJ and MK and it makes for a serious addition of talent. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/31256464/2021-men-college-basketball-recruiting-class-rankings-chet-holmgren-boosts-gonzaga-no-2 Have to have ESPN+ to access I think. Also, Bates at #23 is higher than any in-state (IN) recruit Archie missed on (43rd is highest).
  10. He must like working for Millers. 8 years with Wes, then here at IU with Archie, now back to Wes... Probably buy Roberts' house.
  11. No way Bates only get 13% of the mins IMO. Moved up to #23 in ESPN's new ranking. Passed some guy named Aminu Mohammed.
  12. He's saying he had a streak of 14 of 15 games in double figures. You're saying he had a total of 23 of 31 games in double figures.
  13. So we have 4 SRs (Thompson, Kopp, Phinisee, Johnson) that all have 2 years of eligibility left if they want it? About time. Forget get old, stay old. Get good, get great, get unstoppable, stay unstoppable.
  14. The "one in a 100" UVA shot came after a game where a "one in a 100" foul call gave Edwards 3 FTs (hit 2) to force OT after probably a missed 5 sec call and Kline had a once in a lifetime game where Steph Curry possessed him. Luck or lack of it goes both ways.
  15. I agree with your points. I think Fife's comments on Brunk don't amount to much. He said it almost in a joking manner, when asked if his experience going through a coaching change while playing at IU, helps him with retaining current players (or something along those lines). He then said "Well it didn't help with Brunk" in his normal dry humor way (at least to me).
