They need a few guys and he is more a 3 type guy. You know what is funny, the more I looked last night he is not really that high up the more who have entered. Not saying he wouldn’t be a nice add but people act like that guy was a top 5.

There is a TON of talent in general. The problem is these stupid portal rankings and outside of the top 50 or so, it is a mess. I scrolled through it a little last night and the amount of 40% 3p shooters who shot it as a decent volume or more is numerous. We just need 1 guy as a wing who can defend, shoot decent, quick etc. shooting guard with similar traits. Maybe take a flyer on a 5th who shoots it well m, has length, like a Jacob Groves out of Oklahoma who started the year red hot before cooling some. I mean then are 1200 of these guys with more daily. The more I thinks about it, the more I realize what the staff has done and gave some of these people the excuse that “can’t land anyone. Who is even left?” They are going after only the very best. Period. Swinging for the fences. Look at the names they have been tied to. If/when we strike out on all those options, we will expand the search a little since, I mean, there are 1200 of them.

It is really really bad and not to agree with Scott too much haha but it can’t look great when there is an article about a recruit posted and 50 responses saying the staff sucks.

Yep, and the worst part is he is not the only one that feels like this. The Twitter IU fans are probably 40% this way too.

Reminder, this is their 1st portal get after missing out on way more than IU for those saying this is easy. Miami is having same issues as well. Lots of school are for that matter.

I agree and will be another thing Woodson can lean into next year. This is just going to take longer than some want. We need to show athlete growth to draft and an environment players want to play in. Staff relationships being key which by all accounts they do very well. These are the things they can then use to overcome the other areas IU is out ran by the SEC, Big 12 types.

Still playing catch up on this mess. Maybe already addressed but this exactly. In fact, there has already been conversations that there are guys who may back out and not have a spot to come back to. So, yes, we could have some too talent drop in. and I have said this a few times but it appears portal is all that matters now. We can also have some late HS guys pop up that could contribute right away like a JHS and having a spot and some NIL would be nice

You don’t get it, simple. this isn’t about the fans, the draw etc. it is what top recruits want and their desires and thoughts on IU are not what yours are. Can it be built back, sure, but stop acting like this is an easy sell because it isn’t. name 3 things that would drive a top talent to want to come to IU. I can name plenty that those schools have over IU. edit and adding to this. your whole football school is laughable. If they get more fans to their games, their facilities are way better, food programs better, athlete housing better, money they have from football to give in numerous ways, more recent success, modern offense, better conference play and drafting from that conference, etc. etc. like, I am sorry, what can you point to beside this false lore of old IU that you have in your head. Those schools anre better right now. Period. Are you DD? You sound a lot like his tired takes.

Because the relationship can overcome the other faults. The other thing that can overcome it is a local kid who has heard about the IU lore. Otherwise, what is there to sell? Results? Big Ten? Facilities? - strike out on all 3 yet so many of our fans act like this should be easy. Honestly, in some ways, it is remarkable we have got some do the guys we have.

This response is the best example possible of being disconnected from reality. IU is nowhere close in results or facilities to a very large amount of schools. This is why we have a certain set of fans who have expectations that can’t be met. Unless you want to sign up for the Bruce Pearl type guys who will find a way but in my experience those same disconnected fans who act like IU is still IU of 70s/80s and that “it sells itself” are the first ones who would never take a coach like that.

If that is a reality, I bet it has little to do with coaches etc. My theory probably wouldn’t align with those that think it is the staff’s fault but you feel this has stretched beyond current staff correct? So it has to be something else. If you want something more concrete as to why that initial high didn’t last. I would bet it is facilities and overall “feel” The IU facilities don’t hold a candle to SEC schools. Now, you visit IU as a recruit first and you would feel as though it is great. I have been on those tours with a recruit. It is impressive, until you go to other schools and see it is not nearly as good. That stuff matters a lot to kids. The dorms matter, the food they get etc.

But other teams make players a priority too. It sounds like he was their top priority as well. 50/50 and someone had to lose. Did you know that the Tenn. assistant flew directly to his house after the Tenn sweet 16 loss before going home? I am sure that made a huge impression.

Or maybe he “fell in love with a stripper” - girl at the bar and they talked every day since he left. I mean, we are talking young college guys. it is funny because we may all be over thinking it, blaming coaches, big ten style, etc and may be something really freaking simple. I have seen some decide over the craziest things

That is not true. NIL from collectives sure. But if you have over 10k followers and an athlete it is pretty easy to get a sponsorship deal. The more you have the more those pay per post.

Well, at this point I don’t remember where I read this and never heard this until today but apparently Tenn. flew to visit him directly from the sweet 16 loss. So…. Maybe we were not in first like we believed but.. I do think this recruiting process had way, way too many thinking it was IU for it not to have been up until recently. Even if you don’t believe much in those Twitter accounts, ON3 etc. every single one said IU was the lead by far. also, the entire Tenn. board and their “Rabby”and their “insiders” all were saying as of last night and this morning that he was gone to IU. No chance for Tenn. they somehow got him late in the process by all accounts.

Oh that has to be Oregon and why they went to Ledlum today. Knecht also said he is done with visits. UT technically has no scholarships now as well.
