See, now that I buy. Not saying IU can compete there. These facilities for BB are around $30/$40 million for newer and better ones are building. Football - heck $200 million is cheap for one. but everyone saying it is the same, they don’t matter, players don’t care, don’t use them etc. not true.

2 small things I heard and read today. Since news is slow IU pushing more on Devo Davis to enter portal? Came up before on here I believe and pushed again today 🤷‍♂️ IU only wants to fill 2 of the 3 and bank 3rd.

You are wrong on their NIL support and they do give deals like that for basketball because they have crap tons of it. Plenty for football and basketball. NIL changed things for these schools. Basketball at those schools get lots of support too. Their avg attendance is higher than IU. Is it the same as IU support, no but do they care if they are winning, great play style, NIL, elite athletic perks, etc. no. you just believe too much in the lore of IU and that it carries weight with recruits. yes, coaches have to sell a vision but you can only work with what you have. You can’t convince someone to eat something they don’t like no matter how hard you try. And why would you want to convince them? You have to find the ones that like what you are offering. FYI.. been in luxury sales for 30 years.

sorry man, really wasn’t my belief that was what you were saying at all. It was more than one person saying it and assembly call podcast conversation too. I was trying to address it all at once. He will go off about how I am crazy, IU is the best college, best NIL, best of everything. They instantly cure disease by stepping on campus and if Woody can’t close people with all that he sucks.

Ok, if this was at me again I am sorry. Feel free to delete. I keep seeing post after post discussing why Ledlum etc was lost, spoiled kids, NIL, etc. I am just responding. I do think it is hard as these really do intertwine so much. People are having a hard time keeping each conversation separate. Maybe there should be a catch all thread instead of a NIL thread, transfer thread, facilities thread, transfers to IU connection thread, players we lost in portal thread, etc. it seems like this thread is where most want to discuss each nuance at once.

Then why we loose Knecht too? JHS projected lottery wasn't enough? I agree with another post that the AC podcast is a weak theory. to those mad, these kids are spoiled, etc. you have that right. (Even if I would say it is the bloated coach salaries and growing endowments that are the true BS in this situation) Where I get frustrated is seeing people say “we are the best, we have the best facilities, are NIL is top notch, etc.” when it is not true. Those same fans typically then blame the staff because “how can they not sell IU, it is easy” - uh, no. Tenn. also has the top NIL and their state laws make it even easier to push that envelope. This came down to NIL and overall athlete perks. My opinion and obviously many disagree but trying to share facts to back up my point. for those that say they don’t want guys like that. Then be patient that the staff can and will find the guys that have different reasons and needs to be here. Ware is one such guy. He saw the glamour of Oregon. It sucked for him. For him, Woody is what he wanted and needed. There are more guys like that but know we have to find them and be patient as we strike out on a few that want different things we can’t offer.

It is hard on a message board to get a point across and not type a novel. to the point - IU doesn’t compare to probably top 50? And then maybe equal to next 100 colleges for facilities You would be surprised. Any affluent area or private high school has weight rooms and other facilities equal or better. Here is / pics from Westfield. I tried to find a video. This shows maybe 1/3 of weight room and they have many other facilities that would be equivalent. It is not just Carmel or Hamilton country. Heck, go look at Texas high schools. again, just trying to point out this stuff all maters and Tenn. is one such school that makes it tough. They also have better NIL.

Put it this way, let’s say it was 50/50 for a recruit. They were torn. This sways them. yes, the weight room is just ok. High Schools have better and it would rank maybe top half of D1 schools. I encouraged you and everyone to watch this video. This is Texas Tech - not football, basketball! This is their dedicated basketball facility.

Sensible response. I am coming at it as someone who has seen behind the scenes. What you described that they have is available at any descent mid major and up. I have seen both. It doesn’t compare to top 35/40 schools. I think my point here is being debated 2 ways. That IU facilities are top notch. Top 10 good. No. They are not. kids don’t make decisions based on that alone. You would be shocked. At best, if it was 50/50, that will win. edit and add - again, this does not mean it sucks. Far from it but many of these guys come from high schools that rival it now.

It is not all of them but so many do. You have to think like they do even if you don’t agree. Everything is about look at me. Social media posts for every freaking offer they get, etc. this even happens in very much lower tier sports. I see it all the time and I hate it. But this is what majority do. so, if you think like them, they are willing to “look cool” over making sensible decisions. The facilities, brand swagger, Nike? Etc matter to them. it is like the kid who takes a walk on at a P5 school in football but could have had a ride at a lower d1 or d2. Happens all the time. Worst part is many parents like it too. Look at my kid, he is going to IU to play football (uh, kinda) we have to find the talent that wants to be coached and sensible. They are out there. Ware probably learned this prior stop when it didn’t work out.

These are not us man. Ware chose Woodson. Why? He aligns with that and already had the glitz and glam of Oregon facilities. What did that get him. people are asking why? Why is this happening? I am giving you very legitimate reasons for those that choose door B. honestly, what needs to happen. People need to stop worrying about landing every guy like this. Some will chose others for those reasons. I have seen it recently with my own eyes.

People want to know why we lost him to Tenn. heck both of them. I actually agree, I don’t really care as much as the sky is falling guys. We will find guys and great ones. But these are legitimate reasons for the miss.

It is the combo. Been trying to explain it and IU has plenty of collective money. Not the same.
