It's not necessarily era specific. '84 Georgetown, Thompson consistently used 7 guys for at least 15 minutes per game throughout the tournament run, and only twice did someone go over 35 minutes.

Probably didn't hurt having a 7' Patrick Ewing on the team either :D

yeah.  and honestly i think playing hard ass is a lot more important that what defense.  MM, packline, zone, whatever... if you don't play it hard it doesn't matter.  you have to buy in and have pride in it.

As long as it's not Grab-Ass defense we're probably ok.  But if he does go with the Grab-Ass style defense, it'll look like we're just goofy around the whole game and not taking it serious at all.

  3. I never bought into the Hunter was an NBA talented kid.  I think he was a product of the Romeo quote of him being the best player on the team and a NBA talent.  Maybe the raw physical tools were there but he never had it between the ears.  His defense made Blackmon Jr look like an All B1G defender.  He made terrible decision at terrible times on multiple occasions.  He was just a good enough shooter at times to make everyone think he was going to break out.

Maybe this is all CAM's fault since Rob never developed either, but at some point, a player is exactly what we see on the floor.  Injury or not.  The injury didn't impact his ability to learn the offense or defense and make good mental decisions.

Just my though.  Feel free to disagree.

AND it would be IU's 25th NCAA Championship overall...

As opposed to Purdue's 5...IF you count the 1932 Helms championship AND the 2018 Cheerleading Championship...<snicker>

Any organized college level sport, be it cheerleading or football is tough competition and requires top tier athletes, unless its Curling, then anyone can do that. :D

I think everyone on this forum knows I wanted to keep Archie for another year.

I couldn't have been more wrong. But I think very few people even knew that Coach Woodson was as good of a technical coach as he is, nor did people see Scott Dolson demonstrate the leadership he has by making the basketball program a team effort and not laying it all off on one man. So far, Coach Woodson is an "Easter Egg" that has earned an off season A+ in my book.

This group Dolson has assembled is solid and built for the long haul...not a one trick pony...

I know we haven't played a game under Woody yet, but I can't wait until November...if this comes together like I think it can, we're in great shape to reclaim our blue-blood status...

I fundamentally disagree with almost every post you ever put on here.

But this is not one of them.  CMW has had a phenomenal offseason and positioned IU for success.  As mentioned, we haven't seen a minute of basketball yet.  We have had hype in the past, although we forget.  Hype for the movement.  Hype for the tough nosed CAM.  Hype for Romeo and Lander. And now Hype for the next big thing, CMW.  But it  always seems to fall short come game time.  I truly hope that the hype and excitement translates to wins on the board.  The B1G is going to be weaker this year in my opinion and its our opportunity to put a strangle hold on the top tier

So here is to my one and probably only agreement post with IUFLA and GO HOOSIERS!

I agree about the talent of the players, I actually completely disagree on the officiating. College basketball officials are the absolute worst and let a significant amount more go and have way more inconsistencies game to game and even play to play.

I'm not even sure what NBA officials let go. They have a gather step in the NBA and college doesn't have that at this time, so they're not letting anymore travels go than college they just have a different rule.

Oh i agree that College officials are terrible but i think its more because they want to be to much in the game.  Where as i feel and i will admit i don't watch NBA regularly, let so much go.

This is true, but part of that is because NBA coaches and teams are better at maximizing what guys do. Duncan Robinson wasn't even a full-time starter at Michigan yet he starts and plays a pivotal role for the Heat because Spoelstra finds a way to maximize the use of one of the best shooters on the planet.

True but for the most part they are all highly talented players.  College might have 1 of them on a team and rest are usually never going to make it to the NBA.  Its just not the same game either direction you go.  And we never take in to account the officiating or whatever they call it at the NBA level that allows for so much more everything.

OK.  I'll amend that.  You're never more open than when you catch the ball except when your defender falls down!

I'll amend it more.  You're never more open than when you push your defender down and the refs let it happen bacause you're an overpaid baby on the court and they don't want to hear it from you for the next 40 minutes.

  10. they are in the NBA for a reason.  Most of the starters on every NBA team was at one point the best players on their team or in the country.  It is somewhat comparable to college but we're not comparing apples to apples here.  You don't make to the nba or the starting rotation by not having good BB IQ or a skillset that makes you a hard matchup.

For any lurkers who want to sign up.  Boom. There’s a screen name.   You’re welcome.

Seriously, though, thanks for the research.

For what its worth, i agree with IUFLA on this and i never agree with him.  I am more likely to agree with IU Scott, and we know how much we love each other, than with IUFLA.

Kopp is a smart kid, can't get into Northwestern without it, and will help with our grade averages and all that.  He is a capable shooter who struggled last year.  Maybe with 8-10 minutes a game and him not needing to be the sole scorer or being open more will help him out.  But this one is a gamble, but i like the pickup never the less

Does this even need to be debated?? Literally have a player on the team whose nickname is the x factor!! lol

The second one absolutely needs a thread though....who is the  bigger tool.....Goodman or Dakich???

Dakich, don't need a thread for 6,237 people to say the same thing.

  13. If i had to say who was going to leave from our current players, i would rank them like this

    1.Hunter
    2.Rob P
    3.Galloway
    4.Lead

With the addition of so many shooters, Hunter seems the odd man out.  He is a decent shooter but is woefully lacking on the defensive end of the floor.  His BBIQ and situational awareness are also lacking at time which led to bad decision made and the worst possible time.

If Lander makes a huge jump which could be possible, he takes Rob's minutes which puts him in a bad position with sever better shooters coming in who have experience.

Galloway is a hustle guy who isn't particularly great at anything but god does he give you 100% when he is in.  Needs to learn to shoot better and finish at the rim stronger but that will come with age and experience.

Leal is a fantastic shoot and was one of the first to say he wasn't going anywhere and loved the coaching hire.

So my bets are on Hunter going somewhere else.

3 first round losses in your last 6 tries.

we missed the tourney 5 years straight.  We probably shouldn't throw stones.  Out house has been made of brittle glass for years.  But the way things are trending, if Coach Woodson can coach half as good as he has been in the off season, we should have a much better season this year.
