  1. Not really. We know what Rob offers. Some of us are saying, what Rob offers is still slightly better than what Lander offers. Woodson agrees as well. Some of you keep saying that since Lander has (somehow) shown more improvement, he's somehow deserving of more minutes. Improvement is meaningless when your current game/play isn't as good as your teammate/competitor. It's just funny because a lot of what people seem to be saying is, since Rob isn't living up to expectations of us fans, he's not deserving of his playing time. It's hilarious because people seem to want to slam Phinisee to make Lander seem like the better candidate. Lander has had every opportunity for PT this year. Phinisee has been hurt, X hasn't been great, foul trouble, etc. And Lander still didn't get in the game today. What does that tell you? I hope Lander improves and takes over Phinisee's PT. I think I and others all truly wish that. But we shouldn't rag on Phinisee to make the case for Lander.
  2. You still have the same expectations for Phinisee as you did 3 years ago. We all thought Phinisee was going to be much better than he is. That hasn't been the case. What we've learned over the last few years is that he's a great defender, and a backup point guard. Not a great shooter. That doesn't mean he failed and serves no purpose. We simply have to put him in a role that fits his game. Lander was, like, the #1 PG in his class. If we base our expectations on his rating 3 years ago, anything less than 14 points, 7 assists, and 1 turnover per game is a failure. But guess what? We learned the rankings were wrong. He has skill, but hasn't put it together. He's undersized, not a great shooter, average defender, and turns it over a bit. Does that mean he's a failure? No, it just means a different role. And right now, Woody didn't see a fit for him in today's game. We can argue all we want about Phinisee. Right now, Woody trusts him more than Lander. I don't think Woody cares much about "potential" and what could be. Who is best for the spot we are in. Right now. At this moment in this game. And it's Phinisee right now.
  3. Turnovers still an issue. We pulled away when we decided to take care of the ball. If Duncomb is any sort of a player, he'd be getting minutes right now. They could desperately use him. Loved what Leal provided. Kopp's poor play was surprising. Made a lot of really, really bad mistakes. And made some pretty dumb plays defensively.... We won. So learn and move on
  4. This team could really use Duncomb to provide minutes...
  5. We dump it down to race for an easy 2 points... and we don't try it again.
  6. Watched a little of the Oak Hill/Montverde game. I'm not usually one to pump up incoming recruits, but I was very very impressed by Schifino. Two things stood out to me: #1.) He has VERY good form on his shot. Like, really good. #2.) I was very impressed by his handles. Seemed to be able to go "fast" without appearing out of control. Always kept his head up while dribbling, and seemed to use both hands with ease. I think he's going to be ready offensively when he steps foot on campus. Defense always seems to be a crap shoot with freshmen as far as getting up to speed defensively. From the brief moments I watched, he's exactly what we need. He seems like he's a Parker Stewart with really good handles. He's classified as a combo guard, but if I wouldn't have known that, I would've thought he was a point guard. Seems like he's going to be a great all around player.
  7. This has been what has surprised me with Trayce. I thought the key to him would be a consistent outside jumper, and decent ball handling. We've seen a few glimpses of a jumper, but not enough to warrant him getting the ball outside. We also haven't really seen him use his right hand much. And he's still dominating. He's simply doing everything he did before at a much, much higher level. Good for him!
  8. Agreed. Lander tried to pass it while he was in the air catching the ball.
  9. I guess I can be like you and get my pom poms out and say "Better Luck Next Time!" This game isn't the end of the world. Not even close. But we have a dangerous trend of getting sloppy with the ball. If that doesn't change, its gonna be another long season.
  10. Haha you're a buffoon. Have you been around the last decade or so? What standard have we been playing at?
  11. Rankings and how people view us is irrelevant. The number 2 team is really good because they minimize mistakes. If we also minimize mistakes, we can be really good. But we are turning the ball over a lot against teams that just aren't that good. Syracuse's zone is "different" but 25 turnovers is just abysmal.
  12. I didn't say they were. Just stating how Purdue plays. We try to do too much. Simple as that
  13. We will see. We certainly have the pieces. Point guard has got to improve. Johnson has got to slow down a bit and sacrifice some flash for some ball security. Parker Stewart impresses me a lot. Just a steady presence out there
  14. You said, "you have to take the good with the bad". No, you don't. If you take the bad (25 turnovers), you're going to be a mediocre team. Purdue doesn't turn the ball over. They play smart basketball. They play unselfish. We can be really good. I have no doubt. We have the talent to beat anyone. But if we don't fix our biggest Achilles heel, we are going to struggle in some games we gotta win.
  15. Yep, teams like Rutgers and Penn State are gonna hang right in there when we hand them the ball 25 times.
  16. You really don't though. Good teams don't turn the ball over 25 times. I understand off shooting nights, I understand having games where you turn it over 15 times, but 25 times? Gonna have to clean it up. So many of these turnovers are just bone headed and self inflicted.
  17. 25 turnovers. Value the damn basketball
  18. Trayce needs to touch the ball every possession
  19. When did we learn how to shoot free throws?!
  20. My God, if we don't learn to value the basketball, we are bottom half of the B10. This is pathetic
