I say we have issues on both ends.
Our issues defensively have gotten much worse from last year. KenPom says that in defensive efficiency we were #24 last year but this year we are #47. Our issues on offense are less this year as KenPom says that in offensive efficiency we were #95 last year but #21 this year.

Right now, I feel like we won't have a chance in any game if TJD and JHS don't score 30 a piece
Scoring not the problem. Defense is.

Our defense is the problem. We're now #46 in KenPom overall defense. We were 24 last season.

From Champs to Chumps. At this rate we'll be lucky to finish in top half of B1G.

This team is swirling around the drain.

They need to be prepared and pissed off on Sunday. Will be tough w/o Race, but Malik needs to learn fast.
I’m guessing Duncomb is not bringing it in practice, but he has done pretty well when he has played limited minutes against cupcakes. He needs to be ready to play some.
I don't know whether it's still the case, but CMW said Duncomb had a lot of injuries which though minor kept him out of practice a lot, and he can only go for a very short while. But there is now lots of minutes to take up now.

Thanks. That's even worse than a no-call.
Guess he just put his head in the way of Price's elbow.

When I saw this watching the game, though I didn't see the elbow until the replay. It looks like the ref is standing right there in position, but you can't tell if he was watching on ball. If he was, he couldn't miss this. I thought there was no call. I had no sound. They reviewed the play but nothing happened.

The ref definitely made a 'T' signal. IU needs to escalate that to the league office.
Yes, I wondered about that, too. You could only see the ref from the back but looked to me like he gave the technical sign. Iowa certainly had another one coming.

We missed X. I don't think their press would've worked as well with X in the line-up. We just weren't able to go into attack mode after breaking the press. Missed Race in 2d half. Tough loss.

Ostensibly, Woodson moving Tamar into the starting lineup is purposeful for a 'quicker' start. Are we all comfortable with him pushing the issue and trying to generate offense? It would seem counter-intuitive to have him start and be reserved/'let the game come to him', right?
We need a 2d scorer who can pour it in. Right now we have TJD and a bunch of guys that can get some points but not a lot consistently. Tamar looks like that guy. But can he do it consistently.

That's basically what he did at Montverde...
Yes. So he is used to this role.

I know a lot of people think losing XJ kills our chances at challenging for the Big 10 title...But, are we really losing a lot by putting the ball in the hands of JHS and starting Bates, with Galloway coming off the bench?
Here are the per game totals for JHS vs XJ...
Not a lot of discrepancy there...I do think XJ is a better on the ball defender, and JHS is a better rebounder, but beyond that, the numbers are very similar...
But I think Tamar is the key...In his last 5 games, these are his numbers...
He's gotta have close to those numbers for us to win on the road...
The other key, to me, is Race's defense on Kris Murray...Murray has matured into something close to his brother Keegan...20 ppg and 10 boards...If Race can clamp down on him like he did in the BTT, I think we have an excellent shot at this one...Rebraca has been their only other offensive threat lately, and Trayce simply dominates him...18 points and 11 boards in the first game, 31 and 10 in the second, while Rebraca had 4 points and 4 boards in the regular season game, and 0 points and 4 boards in the tournament...
Let's see if we've progressed going on the road...
I agree.
You can see that Tamar looks ready to bust out.
JHS needs to cut down on TOs and let his own offense come to him. If Tamar busts out, I think that will reduce the need for JHS to score. He can then concentrate on the other things. With the other guys scoring he will then have a chance to use his mid-range game and driving ability.

Gabe looks much stronger than he was, but will need the weight and nutrition program in college to get up to B1G standards.
His on-ball defensive skills look good.

I feel confident we will hit the portal /late decommit pool hard.
Yes that's are only route. We will lose at least 4 players all key. We have only 2 coming in the new class. Do the math.

Not ideal…but with X out, we may be forced to go this route.
I mentioned this exact scenario in a previous post.
Could be. I'm not sure how ready Leal is to play.
CMW much more likely to go with upperclassman than freshman. "The good thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores."

Why would the 13th man get anytime at all. You should play 9 in a rotation at the most
Although I agree with your point, the issue is that we only have 3 guards in the rotation with X out. Jalen, Tamar, and Trey. And Trey is injury prone.

He didn’t play before his ankle injury though
He played 3 minutes and 4 minutes v. BCU and Morehead.

I don’t understand why we don’t play Leal for 5-6 minutes a game to help with that depth. He was serviceable last year and can do well enough things in those minutes to help. I also think banks can play the 3/4 depending on need as well to help with depth. Also we literally played Gunn in first half only and when he was on the floor the intensity on defense picked up so much. Once his shot starts falling that man is gonna be baddddd!!!
Leal has been hurt. I think it was an ankle. He has just recently been able to return to action.
-
Although I agree that Race and our lack of guards make 1 in and 4 out not a likely offense, Race will be more important in the B1G facing quite a few teams with multiple bangers up front.

No, it's based on the number of possessions and points scored. Points off of TOs is a possession that ends in a score just like getting a defensive rebound or taking possession after the opponent scores. So this makes no difference in OE.
