I thought we already had a thread for this but couldn't find it.
Reports that IU and Adidas have a verbal agreement in place for a 10 year extension.
Any indication on the money?

Not if that means betting the farm to do so.

Not sure I know what you are asking, but I am saying players leaving a program before mid-year because they are dissatisfied on how they are being used is happening more frequently. Because of this, I think it is smart to fully staff your team. You have to expect the unexpected. Players leave, they get hurt, they don't develop how you expect. Take a flyer on raw player, a player that has the skills, but not the build/athleticism. But don't leave a spot open for the sake of leaving a spot open.
I think the chance of a player leaving mid-season versus transferring in are far greater, so I would not leave the scholly open for that, if that is the counter.

Why? What about another body in practice. Sure, the attitude needs to fit, but I don’t understand why coaches wouldn’t fill all spots on their roster. Transferring is a 2 way street now. And whether we like to admit it or not, rosters are getting ‘creaned’. A spot for unnamed 24/25 guy is not going to be taken up by 13th guy on a roster.
There’s also ample NIL opportunities here outside of collectives. Just imagine how Priller would’ve cleaned up in tshirt revenue. Hell, I’d buy a ‘Priller the Thriller’ right now if it was available.
Not to mention, transferring mid-season isn't the oddity it once was. Combine that with injuries and your team can get small really quick.

What does Him walking around campus have to do with Portland?
Earlier in the thread Bloomington was compared to Portland.

I spent 5 hours walking around campus and the mainly the downtown area yesterday. I did not get that impression at all. I know it is purely anecdotal though. At most, I encountered a couple of folks who seemed to be having a rough time in life (I'll leave it at that).
I'll also add that outside of the doom and gloom that you may read on conservative media, Portland is great city. Does it have some of the at West Coast hippie, liberal attitude about? Very much, but it also eclectic city surrounded my so much natural beauty. It is not the warzone everyone makes it out to be, although their Chinatown was a bit suspect. Cities with any sort of age are always going to have problems due to having to deal with diversity, aging infrastructure, and now changing dynamics in market (work from home, online shopping, etc.), but I'd like to think human's are still social people that want to be near each other.

Although it is probably generally better to be more hands off in that situation vs rocking the boat with a heavy stick.
Oh, i agree, but it is a damned if you do, damned if you don't on several of those issues and in the end you are still a state employee. Abortion and Palestine/Israel is a loser no matter which way you go in this state, although the percentages would generally tell you otherwise. Not going say what those percentages are though lol. Although, blocking free speech is never the way to go imo.

She is just in a rock and hard place. Indiana is very much a conservative run state that and the university has a lot of liberal thinking throughout. It is a balancing act to keep the funding flowing from the state, but not impose restrictions on free thinking. Many of the issues are no-win situations no matter who is in charge.

I know they removed all of it at one point. Are they repopulating? Was there last summer, but can't remember. Too many AMFs.

He's probably involved also, but if I'm giving money to a basketball program, I'd sure as hell want a basketball coach talking to me, not just an administrator.
If you think the coach is leading the charge on fundraising behind the scenes, then I don't know what to tell you. Yes, the coach is giving his time to shake hands, make appearances, etc., but the AD is the person that doing the real work. It ain't Woody or any coach for that matter. They just show up where and when they are told, although obviously there are probably some personal relationships there in some instances. That has been well-established this past will-he-or-won't-he be our coach next year event a month or so ago.

Who do you think is going to be talking to donors/alumni and rallying support for a big investment? Usually that's the head coach's job.
The AD.

Only Indiana fans care about that stuff, even now, after it's allowed. WILD
I don't care about the money part. I'm still over Woody. If you look back at my posts since 247 days, I have always been calling for the program to modernize and play in the gray. I'm just not going to give Woody credit for recruiting, when if we had Dusty or any other decent coach, we wouldn't be getting the same results as long as the money behind the scenes were there. We still need a complete overhaul of our branding, marketing, apparel, uniforms, etc.

Sorry @btownqb, I'm one of those fans that have followed the team around the country and spent my money supporting them, but got called not a true fan, because I criticized a beyond sub-par product on the court this past year. Not letting that go anytime soon.

I get it and I'm fine with it. It is nice to finally be able to do what everyone else has been doing, but I'm just not going to call this a win for Woody. Sorry, not going to do it. This is about the school, the fans, and the money behind the school because of the fans. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Not saying Gallo wouldn't be open to a bench role. Not saying Carlyle doesn't have the potential to be a star.
We just have history on how Woody coaches and how he uses his personnel. Every time we expect him to deviate from this, he doesn't.
My hope for next year...

I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. Look at a school like Illinois. They’ve got robust NIL and have a history like Purdue’s not IU. Plenty of NIL heavy hitters don’t have better tradition than an IU or Purdue. All it takes is a John Ruiz at Miami to buy a Nijel Pack for example. Definitely helps having an alum like a Cuban or Ishbia for MSU that’s for sure.
I like you boiler. You’re are cards fan and sometimes reasonable, but sometimes you are exhausting. There are always exceptions, but focus on the rule. Generally speaking, no win = no fans = no media = no 💵. With that, IU’s tank is starting to run low. The RMK years are only going to last for so much longer, then generations will die off with the younger ones loyalty being less or going elsewhere. It’s why we are at such a crossroads with our program.

Far from salty just having a conversation. How do you know we’re lacking? Any proof there? You think Kel’el Ware comes to IU if you guys didn’t open up the checkbook? I think tradition matters for high school recruits more than portal guys tbh.
You think we have the checkbook without the tradition?

Wait until the charges hit UK...
NCAA is well past charges at this point. We are in a new era of CBB and Football. Outside of minor rules stuff, the major stuff is all above board at this point. NCAA has no teeth.

Kentucky, as a program, lost a major recruiting advantage with the onset of NIL. Since it's no longer illegal for players to receive money, recruits dont have to take under the table payment to afford that BMW they wanted.
Lord knows no players were going to UK for the girls.
Dislike UK with the best of them, but I wouldn't be going after their girls. Just go to Keeneland this past weekend.

I'm hoping for a Hubert Davis type turnaround.
They had continuity coming back and holdovers from a team that went to the championship game. Not even remotely the same scenario. We are rebuilding more than half of our roster.

No doubt. Even more frustrating is you see good product all of the time on coaches and players, but not for sale to the general public. Also, for the love of god, can we get some soccer gear. How do we have Adidas, one of the preminent futbol apparel companies in the world, as the sponsor for one of the best college soccer programs in the country, but little to no gear?
