I'm hoping for a Hubert Davis type turnaround.
They had continuity coming back and holdovers from a team that went to the championship game. Not even remotely the same scenario. We are rebuilding more than half of our roster.

Gas station version of Shaq has no chance.
Purdue did it the right way, I give them credit. A bunch of Indiana Boys and a 7 foot center nobody wanted.
Painter is a heck of a scout and coach.
Let's not forget Painter almost left for Mizzou and Purdue fans were okay with it at the time.

Or throw it out to someone who can go by their defender. IU needs both!!
True. I just think the 3 ball is the higher priority currently and the more difficult find for us for some reason. Think about what we could have been the last three seasons with a lights out shooter or two?

Who would you rather have:
13.1 pts, 38 3pt%, 4.1 rebs, 78.5 FT%, 1.1 Ast sits on arc, below average defender
14.0 pts, 30 3pt%, 4.4 rebs, 78.8 FT% 4.6 Ast gets to the rim and a bulldog defender
With the composition of our team currently, the former, but I understand why you pose that question. I don't want another season MR dribbling into double and triple teams because he doesn't have the confidence to throw it out to someone behind the arc that can make a shot.

Big hole, my friend, we have to dig ourselves out of, so not yet and really I'm done with the off-season wins. Show me we can compete consistently throughout the season with no big losing streaks, scoring droughts, and late season heroics to squeak into the tourney and then you might see me smile...maybe.
Edit: My avatar is Larry David. What do you expect?

Plenty of players and time. And I appreciate you respect me. Even my wife doesn’t 😆
I think you overestimate how much there are of both, but can relate to the last comment.

I like the better difference and mid range. Reminds me of JHS and his midrange. Hopefully MM at the 4 and the Telford can shoot threes.
With all due respect, we don't need further clogging inside of the arc. We need spacing and three point threats. This is the exact opposite of what we need outside of the length on the defensive side. We need the 4 and 1 offense that was promised to us by Woody.

Agree about the bench needing to improve but is this on the staff or the players? I mean highly touted Tamar hasn’t exactly blown up since he left! Or any of the other players that saw greener grass.
I mean who is that on though? Either they scouted wrong, they couldn't develop, or they screwed up these kids careers by not getting off on the right footing. All fall on the same group of coaches in the end.

One other note as it relates to Liam versus Bryson. Liam > Bryson only because Liam is a 3 point threat, which is what we need. Bryson seems to be more of a slasher, pull-up player. We still need three point threats. Until we have these in multiples, we are still the same 'ol IU since Crean left and are going to struggle.

So so so many discounting the value of JHS, TJD, Malik, MM, Ware improving their game? SMH
I care about winning as a team, so outside of the TJD seasons, which could be argued we underachieved, I couldn't care less about individual players, unless it meant the growth as a collective. So far it hasn't...
Also, the only way we take the step as a collective is if the second and third tier player develop, which they have not.

Thanks to Kenya
Just a question, buy why does it have to be this way? Why do we have to get them late in the game under these circumstances always versus during the early signing period? Did we not go after him earlier? I realize Liam plays the same spot, but we seemed to not really pay him attention after he signed, so it all just doesn't really make sense.

Give Woodson and Kenya credit. This all happened very quickly. Dude is a McDonald's All American.
Awesome first get. Keep stacking talent and the right pieces and we can be a good team next year.
I'll give credit here, but it doesn't equate to being good next year. Still need to revamp the system and need better continuity year to year. Ware and Mbako last year didn't equate to a good season this year with quality holdovers from the previous year. We need shooters, we need a system, we need game plans, we don't need to be going into the off season with over half of the scholly's open. We need so much more from our coach if we are going to be successful along with accountability for a completely lackluster season. Not 11th hour recruiting victories that feel good in the moment.
It would be nice if Tucker was being stacked on top of McNeely.

Pacers lose to Lakers by 5...Lakers have 43 FT to Pacers 16. It is BS.

I saw someone on Trilly’s board say something akin to Bill Self wrapping this up in the last several to few weeks. And the reasons for the switch probably due to other things I’ve seen tonight - style of play, etc, including possibly CMW not having talked to him after signing. You have to think if that’s the case, potentially waiting for a different direction & coach were behind him not decommitting earlier. Only Liam and his family know 100%, and as much of a gut punch as this is as an IU fan, I truly do wish him the best going forward, most likely at Kansas.
And wow is this a gut punch. When I saw the news on Twitter, I gasped so loudly my daughter thought someone had died. Her words, not mine.
I wish him the best and don’t blame him one bit. I’m sad to not get to see him play for a team I want to love, but decision makers are making it extremely difficult to do so.

This whole McNeeley situation better scare Woodson. Or at least piss him off. If it doesn't, it's a real problem.
There is ZERO margin for error. There is ZERO leeway for coasting on laurels' past. This is a dog-eat-dog world and you better be on AT ALL F---ING TIME.
Them's the breaks. Don't like it, don't do it. But if you want to play the game, you better be a SHARK and you better be hungry.
It should scare his bosses, not Woodson. It’s go time. I’ve literally never seen anything like this at a major program in my life. It’s a joke.

It’s almost like Liam was waiting to see if IU was going to fire woody and when they didn’t, he was like I’m out.

Seems very short sighted and selfish and NOT in the best interest of IU basketball like Woodson says he’s all about.
Me thinks if Dusty May doesn't take a different gig this year, there is a plan in motion. Personally, I was hoping for the Painter year as an assistant thing, but Woodson has too big of an ego for that. I think Woodson goes one more, then Dusty takes over. Just my personal opinion based on nothing lol.

Thanks for your information.
There are 350 schools in D1 basketball and roughly a third of that in high major basketball. Of course they have options...

So on the whole "play inside-out" thing; when's the last time the National Champion had a post dominant offense? This is an actual question not some sorta smart @$$ gotcha question.
Kentucky with Anthony Davis?

Exactly but he feels insolated and untouchable. at least that is how I perceive it.
The whole program feels flat lacking any sort of emotion both good and bad, which is probably the worst possible place to be. I always tell my team the worst thing that I can get from them is not to feel their presence...this is what I am getting from the program currently. It feels like it is going through the motions. We need someone who is going to modernize it in a big way.
I love our history, but I want someone who will get their hands dirty from the coaching all the way into the marketing into the apparel. It is all stale right now and it is frustrating.

Is the reaction to Woodson not showing up to any sectional games a little over the top? I don’t know, maybe. But when I hear of players’ parents and families liking tweets criticizing Woodson for it, it’s obvious that Woodson’s no-show didn’t help anything. As to the theme that it’s “only one day of sectionals” or “only the first round of the tournament” ….. it’s a tournament. The thing about a tournament is only half the teams advance. If I’m a college coach and wanna make sure I see my guy(s), the first round is when I need to be there. Woodson’s already lost his chance to see Sisley.
Not sure about you, but when the proverbial shit is hitting the fan with my profession, I double down the effort to get it turned around. This year, all I have seen is the status quo and a general ho hum attitude from across the board. This is what has made me turn. I can take losing, if I know or feel there is a plan of a attack to get things flipped. I have not seen anything to lead me to believe this is happening.
This is why everything is being scrutinized. There has been no pivot, no adjustments, no accountability, no introspection. It's beyond bizarre to be completely blunt and honest.
