No disrespect to him etc, but I would say choking/neck grabbing Neil Reed tainted his legacy. Then blaming everyone but himself after the fact. Lots of finger pointing and grudges, not a lot of self reflection. I know people love to bash IU's administration and rightfully so (for some things), but there wasn't much else they could do in that situation. It was RMK's Woody Hayes moment and it tarnished a lot of what he had accomplished and sucked for bad for IU fans. It was sad. I'm glad he came back but it's was a shame it didn't happen much, much, sooner. #RIPGeneral.

I agree here.  I love Coach and grew up in the '80s where he was at the height of his craft, but the Neil Reed incident has been difficult to shake and compartmentalize.  I revered him like everyone else did.  Just to be clear, I am not referencing the choke, but more the aggregate effect he had on him behind the scenes.  I am sure he caught hell after Coach was fired by all of the fans that didn't help as well.

I don't see how anyone who is a support of RMK could watch the documentary on Neil Reed and not walk away with some sort of internal conflict.  I just would have liked to think Coach could have adjusted his approach a little bit with the realization that Neil was a bit more sensitive to his 'style' of coaching, similar to Larry Bird, who had mentioned regretting now adjusting for.

People say life is short. I somewhat disagree.  It can or cannot be based on you're individual life experience.

My sister lost her husband in August 2021 to the covid. Every day for her is an eternity but getting easier.

Ellis had a tough early life but ended up being a father and working in a Chicago school helping teach kids. Time changes things.

People need to be allowed to evolve and get better.  I am all for holding people accountable, but if they are never afforded the ability to get better and move forward, then what is the point?  He was still in his formative years at IU and, as you mentioned, appears to have grown and matured.  God help me if I am judged for the stupid mistakes and wrong decisions I made early on in life.  RIP Jamarcus.

I don't think moving your car 100 feet after being escorted off the premises of a business that you just had an altercation with while waiting for the police to leave before going back over there is the de-escalation you think it is. Given that Jiffy Treat is closed at that hour that's also loitering.

I'm sure after so many times of telling someone to go home they had no other choice.

He was waiting on his father supposedly. From TOS.  I think it is valid that this is a kid who is away from home for the first time and was probably scared/not sure how to handle.  Also, HoosierHoopster is a lawyer, so there is some validity in what he saying/asking.

Like it or not, this is the world we live in. Your talent/value often determines these things. People that generate millions/billions of dollars for industries or have a unique/special talent almost always get more leeway than the regular Joe.

    Just got society works.

Honestly, I saw worst worst behavior from students at T. Bell and other establishments well beyond this that didn't escalate to this level.  I am looking at this not from the perspective he is a 5* athlete, but a student at point in time where not always the best judgement is used.  It just seems unnecessary from all sides in many ways.

I will also add I have had plenty of experience with Taco Bell establishments ordering online well before closing on to have meal cancelled for delivery or the place to be closed upon going to pick up my order with people still inside.  There is one near me that on several occasions the employees closed just because.  They are poorly ran.  I wish every fast food establishment would go and learn the methods of Chick-fil-a. One of the best run business period.

    Oh? You seemed to be.

You asked why he got arrested I thought?

Doth protest too much, methinks.  You've stated your perspective ad nauseum.  We get it.  You are very much pro police and the burden of conduct is always on citizens.  I think it started with Mgbako and the T Bell employees, but I do believe the busting of window was unnecessary and leads me to believe the police came in hot from the jump.

Your blind with your own feelings to think police shouldn't be met with some skepticism given some of the conduct of the men and women in blue (and the inability for good cops to call out bad cops in many situations). How could someone not think the worst if a cop asks you to get out of a vehicle?  All you have to do is a simple google search to see what happens too often, even when a person complies.

I think this could have been resolved with some patience in letting it simmer.  In a college town, this situation is probably a reoccurring thing the police encounter weekly.

I was always under the impression that Cuban wouldn’t participate in NIL 1) because of his frustrations with the NCAA and 2) because of his affiliation in the NBA and conflict of interest. Has that changed or is this just UK fans looking for any excuse not to believe that Woodson is the real deal?

I thought he couldn't due to potential NBA conflicts with players once they opt for the draft.

That changes my opinion a little bit, but still guessing that we gave them exactly what they wanted…. two games at home and one in Indy’s fertile recruiting grounds.

You don't need games where you are recruiting, unless it is across the country.  Every game is available to watch and be on TV.  This whole idea of the game being in Indianapolis gives Kentucky something for recruiting is antiquated thought of a time when games were on regional, local TV channels. Kentucky is Kentucky and them playing here isn't going to make them more attractive to local prospects.  Teague, Lyle, and Brook's say hello.

I think it's primarily the processing speed. In the NBA they don't get bogged down as much in draw up plays; their purpose is 3 fold: 1. create mismatches 2. get the ball in the hands of their scorer (hopefully with said mismatch) 3. kick-out when the shot isn't there for their scorer with an assist (or hockey assist). Thus, I think each pass is made more with 'intent' vs running 'through the motions'.

This is why one and dones aren't choosing to go to school at Wisconsin.

But back to the main point, to which i may agree with you and 5 fouls, I don't think most college teams are ready to play this quickly and not every team has that athletic scorer they can create for. Therefore a quicker shot clock in college probably will lead to sloppier play.

I actually don't want rules that will affect the ability of college basketball to have varying types of offenses and defenses.  That is the one thing that makes it special versus the NBA.  I want to see contrasting styles where run and gun teams are stifled by more prodding offense and steadfast defense as an example and can overcome talent gaps. It creates a certain level of gamesmanship and puts emphasis on strategy/philosophy.

It makes it more interesting and allows teams to punch up from a talent perspective.  I do love the NBA, but style and statistics have pretty much made the name of the game the same across all teams with small variation.

Yeah, NBA franchise valuation has been skyrocketing and by all accounts the new upcoming TV deal is going to be bonkers.

In addition to that, MLB attendance, viewership (which is often more regional versus national sans a few select games) is very much on the rise.  Rob Manfred has been doing an excellent job modernizing the game with new rules and better player marketing than what has existed for last 20 years or so.  It sort of fell off a cliff in the 90s and much of that had to do with them not marketing their superstars better.  Also, the rules related to shortening the length of games along with blocking some of the stats based strategies that took away from the game (i.e. shifts) has led to a more enjoyable product.

Hard to believe NBA and MLB so far down. Also, it sucks but Purdue is on that list twice…basketball and football. 😝   Although they did lose both games….

In fairness, one game a week in the NFL is always going to get more eyes than 3-4 games in the NBA or MLB in a week.  It is not really a fair comparison.  With that being said, money is coming somewhere in the MLB and NBA, so it can't be that far down.  The player salaries and revenue continue to rise.
