Good luck getting a good coach to go into that job. I mean I know it's a Big 10 job but still.....

I'm still having a difficult time understanding that Northwestern conducted a 7 month investigation that resulted in a 2 week suspension.....and 72 hours later (like we talked on here over weekend) termination because of what exactly?

So much egg on the face of the entire Northwestern school.

This is why they will still get some looks in addition to being in Chicago, reasonable expectations, and being in the B1G.

Still don't understand the purpose of this in season tournament the NBA is implementing. Does the NBA think that the players won't use load management and miss these tournament tames

They are trying to model basketball in the same manner as soccer/futbol. Their goal is go global eventually, so this would tie into something similar to what they do in Europe with the Champions league, different cups, etc.

  3. The Pacers have easily been one of the highest performing organizations in the last 30 years championships aside.  The problem with the Pacers is they try to do it the right way without tanking (don't even get me started on the lottery system.  Fully believe they should do a playoff with the worst 8 teams for a shot at the #1 pick).  Have they had their hiccups...of course, but ultimately it is one of the more consistent, better run teams in the league, despite being in a small market.

People hate George Hill….boy do they despise him. Maybe I hear different people than you but most can’t stand him from losing the Kawhi trade to just not helping us get over the top and some disappointing play to even being brought back last year and helping us win a couple games at the end of year losing out on draft positioning and taking time away from youth movement. Guy maybe has played in more championship and conference finals then any other and not win it all.

Yeah, I haven't got that impression on Hill, but could just not be around the right people, although in general there are always those fans, so doesn't surprise me.

Agreed. The current roster would be tough to see him find the playing time.

Also from what I’ve seen Pacer fans can turn on local kids faster than others. George Hill and Oladipo both local in different ways have both been vilified by most Pacer fans. It would be tough for Trayce.

Oladipo...yes, Hill no.  For VO, he did it to himself.  He was brought in and given a stage for which he excelled, only to turn his back on the organization and do it in a manner that was unprofessional and disrespectful to Indy.  He did however end up giving the Pacers/city a gift by not accepting their offer in hindsight.

Just saw this posted, which says that IU Athletics ranked 13th nationally in revenue in 2022.

And linked in the comments were some stats. Most interesting to me was how we surpassed the B1G median in 2022. What happened in 2022 that resulted in the huge jump in comparison to other B1G schools?

I found this interesting as well and surprising.  Would like to know how we have grown our budget and revenue so much over last half-decade.

Where is the best place to get official IU Gear?  From the school?  Someplace in Bloomington?  Online for me though

Our apparel is terrible from Adidas.  I can't tell you how many times I have seen players, coaches, etc. wearing something that looks nice only to find out it is not available to the general public.  I really think whomever handles our licensing needs to do better, whether it is the throwback stuff or what is put out by Adidas.  A soccer jersey seems like a no brainer as an example, but there are so many more creative things they could do with our stuff.  It is often just bland and cheap looking.  I am constantly jealous of other programs, even Adidas sponsored.

Football will drive the bus on who the Big 10 picks up...According to the WSJ (and I know this is 5 years old but probably still pretty close) IU is the 44th most valuable program with revenue at $61 million plus, while UNC is 50th ($50 million), and Duke is 66th ($32 million)...it'll be dollars over on the field success... Washington, Stanford, Utah, Cal, and Georgia Tech all have more value in football than UNC or Duke

This has been stressed time and time again, but don't downplay the research dollars involved on the academic side.  That is why academic schools like Stanford, Duke, John Hopkins (B1G) lacrosse are attractive beyond just their brand and football.  We are literally talking billions of dollars shared among research institutions, who often partner with other universities.

But what does that get you? There is only one national champion….that is Oklahoma every year. The rest of the ncaa is basically a tier below. IU has a good team why leave for basically an equally good team. It’s not like it’s going to raise her draft status to go to a different school. So you are willing to leave all your teammates and friends that you just made having a legendary season to go to another team…my point is for what? I suppose if it’s to be closer to home I would get it but otherwise it’s a lateral move that has no real payoff. You would give up all your friends and teammates for that?

The same reason we think players from xyz mid-tier college should want to play at IU for men's basketball...the history, the fans, etc.  My niece played softball at IU and graduated recently.  She loved her time there, but if a traditional powerhouse would have been open to her, I am pretty sure she would have went. When it comes to softball, just like baseball, the warm weather schools are king.

Competitors want to not only play for, with, and against the best, they also want to play in front of fans, etc.  For the most part in women's sports (sans basketball), college athletics is the pinnacle of their sports career. Midwest schools in softball and baseball, still spend lots of the early part of the season traveling due to weather (which I why I have always felt the seasons should be pushed back).

What would make the best player on a good team want to leave? I guess to be closer to home (California)?  I can’t imagine there is much NIL money for women’s softball no matter where you end up…

My guess is her options have opened up to more established programs.  Just a guess.

  11. My only critique from the game is we could have been a bit more selective on our bats.  I felt too often they were going up their swinging away.  Also, a few times, when the count was in our favor, we sat on what was often a meatball down the middle.  This is what prevented us from converting runners on base to runs.

UKs bum coach yapping off and running.  Game 7 tonight boys!!

If Kraft is healthy he could throw 40-50 pitches... Whiteaker hasn't thrown, he will tonight. I think Bothwell will start, ride him as far as he can go.... go to Whiteaker at that point. Mentioned Kraft, I think Foley could throw 1-2 innings, Risedorph maybe 1. Yoho would throw, I'd think. Throwing more LHP worries me against UK, but it's what we got.

I doubt they'd let Sinnard throw, don't think he's even had an MRI.

I was happy with Mercers strategy once we were down 5 runs late.

What was the UK coach yapping about?

He just went through the NBA process and was invited to the G League camp. It looks like he will be a one or two year guy. We can't have a team full of 24 and 25 one and done players. it will set us back 5 years and we'll look like UK today. 7 scolly players and no one from the portal wants to go there. By the way, we wont get every 24 or 25 guy we offer. Players must come from some where else.

I think the transfer portal has eliminated the inability to rebound from losing people to the draft/one and done's. The problem with Calipari and Kentucky is he has never really went to the transfer portal model in balance with pulling the best high school kids with balance.  He rode the one and done train for too long and the transfer portal in conjunction with NIL leveled the playing field and may have even beat him.

I just know my couple times visiting San Antonio was incredibly boring. Dallas and Houston not so much but that organization seems so vanilla. Successful but vanilla. Like you said though….might not matter to a kid from France as the Euros seem to not care as much about the markets they are in.

Growth in both Austin and San Antonio are slowly bleeding into each other.  They are an hour away.  Eventually, it will turn into a megalopolis. Agree with San Antonio for most part, but he wouldn't need to spend his time anywhere else and I feel most players don't spend their off seasons in the places they play, unless it's Miami, LA, or New York.

My gut says Kansas unless the staff was able to sell him on the idea of being a primary or secondary option and leaving doubt that Kansas would give him such a large role.

Originally committing to Duke to me means that being part of a big brand and a team that could win a national title is important. Also probably have more NIL $ to offer.

I hope I’m wrong but we’ve rarely won recruitments like this and have yet to see any of these people flip their predictions.

Duke doesn't have K anymore.  The idea they are contenders every years with a first time head coach is laughable.  It could be argued they very much underperformed last year, even with some of the injuries.  A few more seasons and reality will set it.  Scheyer is not K.

    This.

I work from home so I’m not down there every day like you, but I have no issues when I’m down there for Colts or Pacers games. I don’t go downtown for dinner really anymore, but that’s more because the north side has a ton of great choices and if I’m hauling kids or paying a babysitter, I’d rather not make that drive just for food.

The northern burbs focus on urbanization has definitely hurt Indy in the short-term.  Lots of the great restaurants that would have opened downtown previously seem to pop up there.

The truth likely lies somewhere in between.  My daughter graduates IU dental school Saturday and I can't wait to get her out of Indy.

    https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/crime/two-dead-in-double-shooting-on-indys-near-north-side

This literally happened in the alley next to the house she rents with three other people (mostly dental students), early Saturday morning about 30 minutes before she got home.  The male victim was their neighbor.  No idea on motive...the police literally told her they thought it was purely random.

As a father, that's scary as hell to me.

I am sorry to hear that, but in the end it is a city.   Unfortunately these things happen. More often than not most of the murders/shootings are not random acts of violence, but people caught up in bad stuff killing other people caught up in bad stuff.   Shootings, guns, violence is happening everywhere, including the burbs nowadays, but of course they are going to happen more in population centers.

The only thing depressing is the lack of vibrancy that came with people working from an office versus home.  Unfortunately, with that transition, some business have not been able to make it out, but have definitely seen downtown slowly recovering from the pandemic.  It's not there yet and won't be for a while, but it will get there.

I've lived either in Indianapolis or near by for over 70 years. I always felt safe when in the city whether attending events or going to restaurants. That's not the case anymore. I retired in 2009 after working downtown for over 33 years. I just don't go down there unless I have to. It makes me sad. So, if I have an entertainment alternative outside the city, I'm taking it even if it's not quite the same.

I live and work downtown.  This is a gross exaggeration and built off a talking point that more and more suburban people are latching on to.  Is it perfect and did the pandemic give it a hit? Absolutely, but this sentiment that it is a scene from mad max or you can walk without being endangered is tired and untrue.  Fear mongering at its finest.

This is them trying to created viability where other conferences have not gone.  It reeks of desperation, but don't see how this makes sense.  I am not going to watch a game in the US for a third tier soccer team from Europe, so not sure how much interest there can really be.

With that being said, ND did do a football game in Dublin, but there was a connection with the who Irish thing.

I actually doubt the taxes are a problem with the NIL - they should be getting a 1099 or W2 for those payments which makes the tax part pretty easy.

If the IRS wasn’t particularly interested in the under the table payments that happened for years I don’t see the NIL being a huge problem.

I hear you to some extent, although there was that whole FBI investigation thing that seems to have gone nowhere, but was related to this very topic.

Just like with companies/business owners/people who don't adjust they get run over with a mess because their inaction of decades. This whole mess is squarely on Brand and Emmert. They had their chance to make this right or find a solution and they set squarely on their backs doing nothing.

Maybe this Baker guy has a solution but his first comments on it involved Washington and nothing good comes out of getting those folks involved.

I'm just glad were covered in the NIL world. Guess that's my silver lining for IU.

Just wait, eventually some of these kids are going to get audited and it will be found taxes weren't paid.  While everything is on the up and up now regarding paying athletes, you know there is still some backdoor stuff happening with money and Uncle Sam aren't getting theirs.  When this happens, that is when you will see D.C. get involved and this becomes more regulated.
