That 89 IU class was the best there will ever be. I don't think anyone can put a team like that together.

I agree with that. But they took their lumps early in their career. Problem is that teams don't grow together over the years anymore. They hit the portal or declare for the NBA. Classes don't hang around and develop. I don't know how you build a team these days. I might be too old for this crap.

  2. I didn't watch the game. Spent a beautiful November afternoon at the park with my grandkids. Kinda followed the score and it seemed we were in the game at least through the first half. I see a lot of emotional reactions and I get it. I've been the same way in the past. I hate the reaction people are having to MM. He's a freshman no matter how highly rated he was. There's a lot of pressure on him and that him and that is probably affecting his performance right now. It's just basketball. Let these young men grow and mature and see where that takes us. I hate the negatively that is directed at our players because we fans are not happy. Blame CMW all you want because this is his team. I will support the kids and hope that they realize their dreams. By the way, it was a great day with the grandkids.

  3. I try to stay of these discussions because I know CMW knows way more than me and it's his show. But it would be very interesting to see Ware and Malik on the perimeter threatening to shoot the 3 against certain teams ( I'm looking at you Edey). Also if we can be good enough from the arc, teams can't continue to collapse on our bigs. I think we have more tools at our disposal than we have used so far.

Last year we had one of the best bigs in program history who had absolutely no shooting game outside the paint, a 4 who couldnt shoot at all, and a lottery pick guard who specialized in the mid-range.

This year we have two bigs that can shoot a bit, a McDonald's AA freshmen who's biggest asset is shooting, a 6th year point guard who shot 38% from 3 his last full year, and a 2-guard who shot very efficiently on low volume last year.

We're also much worse to this point defending the 3, and it will cause an even wider gap this year, and much worse defensively overall.

    This isn't the same team.

I'm hoping as guys start playing a little freer that more threes will present themselves within the offense. To get there we need more movement, shooters getting to spots, and the bigs finding them a bit more. And we have to start hitting the ones we get. I worry that guys with NBA ambitions might be less reluctant to share the ball than to score themselves. Of course, I could be wrong about everything.

  5. I want to see a competitive game and continued improvement. I would love a win but I'm not sure how much that helps us in the bigger picture. CMW is trying to teach our new guys the value of playing a certain way. I'm not sure a win reinforces that in a way that helps us down the road. We need to establish new habits for a lot of guys in order to be successful in March. I guess I'm saying I'm not sure we are mentally ready to win a game like this.

Ah, I've been to Beale street too. High school senior year 2002. Heck of a good time. Great bbq and blues. We went because my best friend was a huge Elvis fan and wanted to see Graceland.

We've been to the music festival three times and Graceland twice. It was always a great time. Think what you will about the "King", but he accomplished a tremendous amount during his time here. Beal Street is among my favorite places.

  7. Taco Bell when there is no other choice. My wife and I were in Memphis for the Beal Street Music Festival in 1998 and after the concert Taco Bell was all that was open. We got bean burritos and something else and went back to our motel. I was too drunk to know if it was good or bad. I did satisfy the late night drunken craving for food.

  8. Watching some of those videos just reminds me of how complicated and difficult and how accommodating and funny CBK could be. I watched one with Sage Steele where she ran into him and asked him about her dad who was a football player at Army when Coach Knight was there. He was gentle and kind and accommodating to her and it meant so much to her. The knee jerk reactions from people who only knew him from short TV clips or agenda inspired articles are lazy and sad to see. RIP CBK.

Was it me, or were his hands a little bad tonight? Not Jordan Geronimo or Justin Smith bad, but he didn't seem to catch much cleanly...

First game for him this year. I think we forget that it takes kids a while to find their place. Those guys who were a part of the great teams in the early 90's took their lumps early in their careers. We just don't have much patience with kids anymore. If they aren't great early, we just seem to write them off. Give Banks and Gunn a bit to settle in. They might just surprise us.

  10. The talent is there to be a really good tear. We have to understand that they are still figuring things out. It will take a while. CMW knows how to get the best out of this group. We talk sometimes like he doesn't see what we see. Pretty sure he does. In listening to various former players talk about CBK I was reminded of how far advanced he was compared to the kids coming into the program. CMW knows how to coach. He will get everything possible out of this team.

When I think about his beginnings at IU, the things that stand out initially were the gut wrenching losses... The Final 4 loss to UCLA in 73... The conference tie breaker we lost to Michigan in 74... and the worst of all, the loss in 75 to Kentucky in the Mideast regional final...

But we always knew... knew... he'd get us there...

My Dad was a huge Indiana basketball and Bob Knight fan... He passed in the summer of 88 at age 60 from ALS, a little over a year after RMK's last title team...

I'm glad he was able to see that...

Man I suffered through all of those. I wish we could just look at people through the lens of the time in which they lived instead of judging them by today's standards. CBK was the perfect coach for IU during his best years. He was an innovator and changed how basketball was played. What most people don't understand is what a great humanitarian he was to so many people. I am grateful to have lived during his entire tenure at my favorite university coaching the greatest game ever invested.

That would be @CoachSS.  He only does a couple a season, but man...what great insight into the program.

Members, these are the kind of people you run off when you want to "call out" the insiders when a prediction is missed.  On occasion, a vocal minority on here likes to keep score and all they end up accomplishing is alienating members who actually have some insight into the program.  You (and you know who you are) might think twice the next time you badger someone who gave information in good faith and without charging you for it.

Yes, 100%. Take everything with a grain of salt if you like but understand that everything in recruiting is fluid and what is true now might not be an hour from now. I appreciate everything that gets shared and know that nothing is 100% until a recruit says it is. I have no contacts and know nothing about the inside operation of the program and appreciate whatever anyone wants to share.

  13. I've always thought that it's possible to be sorry for someone's passing without making them out to be someone they were not. He had a difficult early life and that is hard to overcome. However, that doesn't excuse what happens later. I'm sorry at his passing and feel for the pain that those close to him are feeling. Also, not at all sorry that Sampson is no longer our coach.

  14. There seems to be evidence that the crime scene wasn't properly secured and / or contaminated. It was also reported that pieces of potential evidence were not collected until some time after discovery of the bodies. I'm also really disturbed that the sheriff refused search dogs and drones with heat imaging technology in the early hours of the search. The whole investigation reeks of gross incompetence to me. I want someone held accountable for this horrible crime, but I want to to be the right person or persons.

    Rabjohns article is certainly encouraging

"Fland has a had a number of recent conversations with Woodson. The message? “I want you kid,” Fland said with a smile. “He wants me at their school. That’s what he’s saying, and I really believe he does.”

“They basically want me to know the full layout, how everything would be and how I would fit in their program and how much they want me,” Fland said. “It was never like just a little bit of information given. It was telling me the full part.”

This and if I remember correctly he has had some pretty credible people with high level NBA experience telling him all of the positives of CMW. I'm taking about you, Carmelo.

Based on recent results, is anyone here really questioning why CMW and staff is prioritizing this guy? At what point do we stop tearing apart a player’s game and just trust that the staff knows what they’re doing?

Exactly. CMW is building a team. He is looking for pieces that fit what he is trying to do. Given the talent he has coached in his career, I am not questioning anyone who he wants. I'm thinking he knows what he is doing.

Made us a national program inside of 12 months. Phenomenal.

CMW came in assuming we already were. I have loved his attitude since he was hired. The goal is championships, plain and simple. I worked for the Postal Service for 34 years. Our on time delivery standard was always something less than 100%. I never understood u. CMW's goal from day one was a national championship. I absolutely love that. This is the coach we have needed for a very long time.
