  1. I'm at the point right now with my cherry tomatoes that I almost cherish each one. I had 1 ripe one this morning and I was like Tommy Boy with the roll in the diner.
  2. Note to self, don't plant 2 of each kind of pepper. 1 is plenty. Edit: Those are gallon bags.
  3. Anybody have any ripe tomatoes yet? My "early" ones are starting to turn, but no luck on my brandywines yet. Started getting a couple cherry tomatoes, but they went dry for a few days. Crazy amount of green tomatoes on it, so I'll be overrun with them soon.
  4. When I walked my dog this morning, I swear I saw some of these "tomatoes" next to the road in town. It caught me off guard and it didn't register until we were past it, and my dog was too interested in the squirrel ahead of us to go back, but I am definitely going back today to see if they have any ripe "tomatoes."
  5. Especially if more people have complications like Eduardo Rodriguez for the Red Sox. I think most people were hoping professional athletes would be unscathed if they got it (and the vast majority are), but there is a lot more to this virus than just the death toll.
  6. Maybe he was going to get a physical and he was preparing for when the doctor told him to turn his head and cough.
  7. His health teacher told him to always wear protection.
  8. I think a lot will depend on the effectiveness of the vaccine. Will it be like the polio vaccine, or will it be like the flu shot? I am a little leery about the rushed science happening to try to get the vaccine, so I'll probably wait a little while.
  9. This sentence I quoted throws up major red flags for me. The firm behind it called it "a major breakthrough" after a trial of 100 people. It could be found to be a good treatment after more testing, but it sounds like someone wanting to get publicity/money (their shares went up 300% yesterday...hmmm). The problem with small numbers is that they can skew things so much. Even if you flipped a coin 100 times, there are going to be times when you get 65+ tails. If you just look at that one trial, you'd say that you're about 90% more likely to get tails (65 to 35). Most of the data in the trial isn't statistically significantly.
  10. Roasted fennel and salad from my garden. Also tried pickling my banana peppers and pepperoncini peppers. The worst part about that is I need to wait 2 weeks for them to be "done." Probably going to try another recipe next week. I gained 5 pounds from my week of vacation, so it is a great time for my garden to be ripening. Dieting is a lot easier when I just have to walk out my back door to eat healthy. Also had 2 cherry tomatoes ripe today, so they should be going crazy soon. A couple brandywines are close to the diameter of a softball, so they should hopefully ripen soon too.
  11. I would agree to not worry too much about it. That is quite a bit of sun, so I would guess it is from that. This is also a good time for people to check the bottom of some of their tomatoes to make sure they aren't getting end rot.
  12. I would actively search for more of them tonight or tomorrow. Where there is one, it seems like there's usually more. They can really do a number on plants, so don't just trust that you'll see them when they pop up. When we had them on 5 or 6 tomato plants, we were finding close to 10 of them a night.
  13. Tomato hornworm. My parents had some a few years ago. Picked them off and fed them to the fish.
  14. Off the top of my head, I think mostly things that don't fruit. Carrots/beets/radishes, lettucse, and some herbs. I'm sure there are others that are pretty quick growing and don't mind cool temperatures.
  15. Page 7, paragraph 2 "I met Major Beaver"
  16. I was trying to watch the trees in my front yard on my video doorbell, and it didn't seem like they were moving very much. Not exactly crystal clear quality though! From what it sounds like, we got about an inch. A town or two north of us was in the 2 inch range.
  17. I'm a little worried about the storm my garden is getting!
  18. I'm on the coast of Mississippi this week, and I have been pleasantly surprised how good everyone has been here. Every restaurant and store we've seen has signs for masks, and I haven't seen anybody not wearing one when inside. Late this morning I took my dog for a quick walk so she could go to the bathroom, and I didn't grab my mask. I walked by a couple girls (early 20s) on a sidewalk who were wearing masks. As we got close, one of them pushed their mask tight to their face and clamped their nose. Admittedly, that might have had nothing to do with the virus.
  19. @Lostin76 I actually don't think it looks bad. I don't mind having a lot of plants, it is more when people don't have any rhyme or reason to them. When my mom plants a garden, there's some tomatoes here, some there. Some things are in rows, some things random. There's flowers mixed in with vegetables, and things growing on top of other plants. And to think I put her in charge of my garden this week...what have I done!
  20. Throw in either a pick from the top shelf in the pantry, or a grain to he named later, and you've got a deal.
  21. Just throwing it out there, but I think couscous is delicious. Want my address to ship it to me?
