  1. I dont think "this years draft" matters as much as you do. It does matter, im not saying it doesn't, but it doesn't devalue the asset as much as you think. The team it goes to could then flip it to someone else for more future assets, etc. Its a trade piece and a good one. Ben Simmons? No, the Sixers aren't trading Ben Simmons for the #2 pick. But as I said yesterday, I think the Warriors are looking to get, and can get, a fringe all-star player for a package with the #2 pick. Vucivic from Orlando, someone like that. Thats just an example, but he's a lot better than Turner.
  2. I appreciate the backup,@Hoosierhoopster! But I also don't want things to get overblown. I don't have all the answers and I could end up wrong here. Just to be clear for everyone else or new people. I worked in PR for the Celtics front office for 5 years, so no I wasn't on a GM track or anything, so I don't want to over state my background. But I will say, in PR you spend a ton of time with the players, coaches and basketball people. I literally would be in the draft war room during the draft and at the draft workouts, etc. So I do have a feel for these things and experience. But, I also don't want to overplay that or misrepresent it. Edit: That experience also doesn't mean I'll be proven right or that I know more than a current NBA scout, i most likely don't, but I do have experience in these rooms, so more of an educated opinion so to speak.
  3. I never said it wasn't a good fit or that the Warriors wouldn't trade for Turner. I don't think they will but its not a crazy idea. I'm saying the Pacers would be the ones "sweetening the pot", not the Warriors. Strong draft or not, the #2 pick is an asset you don't give up lightly. On the Celtics, I mean they made a Game 7 ECF appearance after drafting Tatum and Brown. Brown has played in 2 ECF's and Tatum was a starter on the team that took LeBron's Cavs 7 games. This year they were a contender. I'd hoped they would have gone further, but I think the bubble impacted things and last off-season I think the Horford loss was a bit of a surprise for the franchise. You add Horford and the Celtics have more depth and size, etc. Yes, I would have loved the Celtics to cash in and get Anthony Davis with those young players, but Davis wouldn't assure he'd re-sign so the risk was too big. The Celtics need to add pieces and get more veteran, but the core is there to compete for titles.
  4. It was said in this thread that not only would the Warriors have to give up #2 and Wiggins, but also throw in additional first round picks, including the future pick they have from Minnesota. I still don't think the Warriors are trading the #2 pick in a deal centered around Myles Turner, though I could see them doing it if Vic is included and the Pacers sweeten the pot.
  5. We will. And again, I'm not ruling out a deal with the Pacers, but it won't be the Pacers getting #2 and Wiggins and only having to give up Myles Turner and trade fodder. On the don't have a clue thing, not sure if that was meant for HH, me, or both, but we both certainly do have a clue, especially when it comes to the NBA and how these deals work. Doesn't mean we'll necessarily be proven right on this one, but we know the topics very well.
  6. Absolutely. There's a strong likelihood that Wiggins is included in a deal. But it's not just as a throw in salary dump. Myles Turner is a nice player, but the Warriors aren't looking to trade the #2 pick and Wiggins for "nice", they're working to get an all-star caliber player in return
  7. He could be and probably will be. The Warriors are also throwing out signals, could be real or could be to fire up interest in the pick, that they were "blown away" by one of the foreign prospects in the draft.
  8. I know they weren't as serious of a contender as the Warriors, or at least didn't have the past track record, but just 3-4 years ago the Celtics had the #1 pick coming off an appearance in the ECF. Not apples-to-apples, but still they had the #1 record in the East that year. The #2 pick in the draft, even if its a weaker draft, is not getting traded for a solid piece. The Warriors will either keep the pick to hedge bets for quicker transition out of this Era, or they'll swing for the fences to acquire another all-star. Myles Turner doesn't get it done. Maybe you go Turner and Vic in a larger package, but I still don't really see that happening.
  9. Yeah, the Warriors aren’t looking to just unload the #2 pick in a contract dump. Never happening.
  10. The Pacers would have to throw a lot more into the deal in that scenario.
  11. Yeah, most fans (myself included) overrate their favorite teams talent. There is no way GS is trading the #2 pick for Myles Turner.
  12. This clearly is not a LeBron James draft or an Anthony Davis draft, etc, but you are wrong on the value of these picks. GM's are not giving away the #1 or #2 pick in the draft for a 12 and 7 rotational big. It's not happening. The #1 or #2 picks will be traded for either all-star caliber players or to move back and also get a number of future picks, not Myles Turner. These teams can sign a Myles Turner type with a mid-level exception or something. I'm not saying this would be the guy, as I don't know what Orlando is looking to do long term, though they do have salary issues, but for GS think someone like Wiggins and the #2 for Nikola Vucevic.
  13. If Vic wasn't coming off the injury I could see that. Given the injury concerns, im not sure GS would give all of those picks.
  14. I'm not, the #2 pick in any draft is worth way more than Myles Turner, especially when packaged with Wiggins.
  15. Draft picks are like new cars, they're extremely valuable on the lot (when they're still picks) but they decrease in value once the pick is made. But make no mistake, even draft picks in the mid first round are valuable trade chips to GM's.
  16. I agree they'll look to package the #2 and Wiggins, but there is no chance they're doing that for Myles Turner. The Pacers would have to throw in just about every 1st round pick they can include and multiple other players for the Warriors to even remotely entertain that.
  17. Wait, are people actually suggesting that the Warriors would trade the #2 pick for Myles Turner!?!? Wow, the Pacers would have to throw in a lot to sweeten that pot. I think the Warriors are going to shop that pick, but with the #2 pick you're expecting a franchise-changing player, not a solid rotation big. They're looking for an all-star caliber player in return.
  18. I just don't see Danny Ainge giving up 2 first round picks essentially for Doug McDermott and Jeremy Lamb coming off an ACL. Danny also likes "win" every trade and he likes to collect assets, so again I really don't see it. The only caveat I could possibly see for that deal is that the Celtics had 2 first round picks and Carson Edwards on the team last year, so I don't see them adding 3 more first round picks this year. They will deal some of them, so maybe this time Danny is a little more open to moving picks to get a little more experienced, given how close he thinks they are. I do think if he's giving up 2 firsts that he would push for Aaron Holiday since the Celtics have no backup point guards.
  19. I think we need to fight the urge to assign credit for the Pat's 20 year run based on what happens to the Patriots and the Bucs this year, and especially not based on what happens game-to-game. Cam was always a flawed QB at this point in his career, and the Patriots offense struggled last year too. If there's anything to criticize Belichick for its his failure or unwillingness to support Brady with offensive talent around him as he aged. One bad season post-Brady doesn't say a single thing about Belichick's place in history.
  20. Probably. The only caveat is if the Eagles somehow get healthy in enough time to string a run together to get them to 8-9 wins. The Eagles aren't a bad team, they're probably a 10 win team if healthy, they've just been absolutely decimated by injuries.
  21. They can't trade Ertz now because he's on the IR, but Ertz isn't happy with his contract so has been really letting it impact his play. Before the injury, he was having his worst season since his rookie year. So, it doesn't make a ton of sense to resign him to a massive contract when they have Dallas Goedart ready to take over and can then easily backfill the TE2 spot in the draft or via free agency. This is one case where instead of coming out and proving he deserves another big deal, Ertz has been sandbagging it a bit and not performing.
  22. We live near Hersheypark and they are open.
  23. The Pacers are in a tough, but interesting spot. If I was Pritchard, I’d be tempted to give the new coach a shot with the current core and to give a real chance to see what this core can do fully healthy (which it’s never been). The Pacers lack a star to be truly elite, but otherwise the core of this team is really deep, skilled and tough. It would be interesting to give it until the trade deadline before moving guys like Turner and Oladipo. The tough question is whether Pritchard thinks he could get more now for players versus at the deadline. I think the off-season trades are typically more balanced for both teams.
  24. Winning the NFC East is kinda like...
  25. The Eagles aren't moving on from Wentz. Yes, he struggled early this season, understandably so given no preseason and all of the injuries to his o-line and skill position players, but he's been getting better each week and has been really good the last two weeks. He's settling in now, the issues is the Eagles are missing 6 of their top 7 offensive linemen, their top 3 wide receivers, their top 2 TE's and their starting RB.
