Sabonis and Oladipo for Paul George. Hahahahaha.....still remember the rip fest some of us took when on the day of the trade in one of these threads a few of us said the Pacers got the better end of the deal.
I was with you man...liked the trade from day one. Admittedly, it was as much about the character if the players at the time, but I also loved the idea of getting younger talented players who could grow into a role.
I may have underestimated Sabonis though...i just viewed him as a bonus role player. He may end up a fair amount better than that
...but yes...I remember well the ridicule some of us took for liking the trade when it was announced.

Sabonis numbers amended...he was 12/12 from the field for 30 before fouling out. Unbelievable.

Man was that a huge save by Thad and clutch 3 from Vic.
-
Jeez...the non-foul on Vic is just nuts.

Pacers not where they should be as a team yet this year, but it's mind-boggling to think that Sabonis was the extra throw-in on the Oladipo-George trade.

I like the newer, faster, higher scoring NBA. Sure, I appreciate great defense, but I detest allowing defenders to maul the people they are guarding.
There's no place for Wisconsin-style defense at any level. It just makes for ugly unwatchable basketball.

Cavs fire Tyron Lue. No surprise there...he's about as bad as little Ricky.

I watched that game live. Couldn’t believe Artest’s stupidity - that was a potential Finals team, great balance with Reggie as a vet, Jermaine et al. They were curb stomping Detroit, and then came the stupidity
Artest was truly a ten cent head. The people who frown at Lance's silliness surely must not remember what an idiot Ron Artest was. I'm trying to remember a player I liked less.

I always watched the Pacers even when they won 20 games a year in the early 80s. I just don't really find the rest of the NBA that interesting to watch but that is just my opinion..
I shut em off after the malice in the palace and really didn't get interested in them until Vic came to town.

Interesting.
He did the same thing I did when the Pacers got Vic...suddenly it's a much more interesting team because the personnel are much more likeable.

Hopefully nothing real serious but don't like seeing something like this
It's an ominous sign. I'm hopeful, but what a bad start for him.

Shades of Forrest Gump "I got shot in the buttocks."

Still rather play in college where you will get way more publicity than playing in front of 1,000 people every night.
From a pure fun standpoint, you're right, but a lot of these kids come from some pretty difficult financial backgrounds. There's a reason the money started flowing in the college game.

Wait what? You'd take Vic over Kyrie?
Based on where they are today and where I think they'll be in the future?
Absolutely.

Another interesting column that would take some legwork/research to complete is all the former Hoosiers playing for a living outside of the NBA. I'm curious about Hulls, Sheehey, Blackmon, Watford, Verdell Jones, Zeisloft, Robert Johnson, McSwain and Tim Priller.

Just ran some goofy numbers and it's going to be almost impossible for Vic to not break 22 PPG.
Points per shot by year..
1.29
1.14
1.185
1.185
1.179
He'd have to take around 15-15.5 shots a game and that's never going to happen.
I'm confused...your first sentence and last sentence seem to be in conflict?

I think this is a possibility as well. Not saying Vic won’t be great this year and that he won’t figure it out, but I could see early on where he tries to do too much and has a bit of trying to prove he’s a legit star and last year wasn’t fluke, and that it’s his’ team. I remember Pierce going through this a bit as the Celtics transitioned from Antoine Walker/Pierce to just it being Pierce’s team.
Possible, but Vic seems like such a selfless player for the star that he is. I expect that if he struggles with that, it won't be for long. I also would add that he will likely be an even better player even if he scores a couple of points less. Pacers have a really nice player to build around...a real leader than can make everyone around him better.

Love that giant chip on Yogi's shoulder.

This season is going to test that. I’m a huge Vic fan, but the flip side to this idea is that just the prior season he was average. It has not been a straight projectory for him, it was a monster step up with a team and position that fit his game much better, coupled with his dedication, including refining his diet and body last summer, I expect he will continue to grow, he’s in his prime, but I don’t expect him to become a top 5-10 player.
I knew I could pull you back in...😉
Top 5-10 is tough, but I love his mindset. I keep saying to myself that I won't overestimate him and he keeps blowing past my expectations, so I'm raising the bar. I think he can be top 10, if not top 5. Three's so much competition at the top and sheer will and dedication only gets you so far.

I'll go back to what I've said consistently about Vic...I take him over a lot of people (PG included 😉) due to his trajectory. I think Vic is still not close to his peak performance and capability, while many other stars have peaked and are even on the back side of that mountain. If Vic doesn't have a major injury derail him, I think he's still got a lot to show the NBA.

Remember, we all made fun of the guy that tweeted Freddie would be starting in the NBA within 2 years.
I'm still laughing, but hey...never say never I guess.
Good for Freddie...I hope he makes it.

More or less what I expected...James overseas, but making money doing what he loves.
