He will…it’s all mental at this point, and that’s when a fresh start can really help. Not always, but usually…..especially, if the player is as talented as Gunn, and he is talented just like Bates.

I'm 67 and I will go to my grave believing that CMW should have started Gunn and brought Galloway off the bench. I think it would have given CJ a whole different perspective and confidence.

    That was just horrible call

And the the ref gave him a make up call, just like they do in the pros, and he missed both free throws -- game over.

I think it’s okay to accept statements of former players at face value. If TJD credits Woody then Woody should get credit. I don’t think you need to look beyond the statements of two former players now playing pro ball to see Woodson is good at developing bigs and not good with wings/guards.

I can agree, coach should get credit for developing bigs. They have played well (on offense). However, the other criticisms of Coach are equally valid and very troubling. Not only has he not developed wings, he can't defend wings, can't stop wings or guards scoring from the 3-point line, and can't take advantage when his bigs get doubled. Finally, I think we can all agree that even the bigs who are playing well on offense (malik, MM) haven't helped us enough defensively. Ware is the exception to this on defense, I think.

Oh totally, which is evident by the fact we haven’t seen Mac play a single minute at power forward.

I just think any decent coach with a spine would tell these two that we tried it your way and it unfortunately didn’t work. That being said, we see the potential in you and what you need to improve on to have a long NBA career and well pull our resources together to develop you in your free time.

Im terrified at the idea that our staff potentially is looking at Queen, Reneau, Mac and Liam all starting together.

I have nothing against the Queen kid, but I am almost wishing he doesn't come here if Malik returns.

Not sold that Woodson is a great recruiter. He can sell it to the guys that are 5 stars because what IU can offer but he cannot recruit or construct a competent team.  I am sick of hearing about 5 stars I am sick of IU fans bragging about the number of great recruits we bring it. I just want some guys that can knock down some shots, play hard and not get punked in your own gym by Purdue. Every college team i watch have  multiple guys that just make plays and do it on both ends yet we cant find any. We have what many seem to think are great coaches on the bench and they may be but all I see are a bunch of yes men. I don't care how many stars, I don't care what state or country you live in just go find some guys that have a little basketball IQ can hit some open shots and some free throws play hard and CARE is that asking too much. Some how Painter finds those guys, some how many mid majors find those guys yet IU cannot. I stated posting recently because like I said before we do not play hard or smart and are poorly coached. We are in a very bad place and there are no signs of things to get better. X is who he is and Woody gambled on him even doubled down and lost. If Ware or Mbako played for PU in Painters system they would be 1st team all big and maybe much better. I hate PU as much as anyone but they are what Indiana used to be and where we as fans wish we were if being honest. Braden Smith would not be very good in Woodys system but for Painter they are talking about him as an all american. Our system is broken and I just hope and pray they find a way to fix it. Just find guys that want to be here and compete and not be an embarrassment to the program is a good place to start. Rant over.

The name Anthony Leal, if he were on another team, comes to mind when thinking about the kind of kids that give us trouble. Wonder if he might have helped last night.

  6. Of course X had a terrible game, but I want to talk about Reneau. Go back and count how many times his man grabbed an offensive rebound. I know he is probably our best offensive option, but I would prefer someone play who actually cares a little about defense

  7. The one thing i really liked in this game was it seemed we really concentrated on early offense in the first half. When Minny made their run late in the second half, it appeared to me we slowed ourselves down, but early we attacked and took good, fairly quick looks. Hope that continues. I see what most say about Johnson slowing things and pounding the ball too much.

Wanted to expand on Woodson. He coached a great game today, really pushed all of the right buttons.

Right after that 7-0 run the start the second half he called timeout and switched Galloway onto Battle, and Galloway, along with help from XJ, Gunn and Walker on switches, largely locked him up the rest of the way.

Also, a ton of credit to Woodson for his lineups and subbing. He road the hot, effective lineup, wasn't afraid to sit two McDonald's AA's, and also subbed well down the stretch situationally.

    Really well coached game!

Great insight. I think It's what coach Woodson has been very reluctant or unwilling to do. Cupps didn't get any run in this game either, and I thought he was our only solid guard against Nebraska.

Are you just naive because that is classic victim responses because they are to scared to press charges. I watch a lot of true crime shows where women who are victims of abuse stays with the abuser because they have no other place to go or have money to leave.

I do criminal law and I can tell you that there are a number of instances where women start the fight. I know, men are not supposed to respond, but if someone is hitting you, what are going to do ? Can't say with any certainty that this is what happened with Beard.

  10. I agree that Coach is too stubborn to make the changes that must be made to make this team better. The first would be to take MM and Galloway out of the starting lineup. This would balance the second team by giving it some scoring and experience and give someone else a chance to do what Galloway seems unable to do, that is be a Big Ten shooting guard. At this point, Leal, Banks, Walker, anyone would be better.

  11. Lot of great things to take from this game. I thought just about everyone contributed to the win, which is great. Like others have pointed out, this wasn't a great opponent but we have struggled putting away even bad teams. The only negative for me was that the bench gave up some of the lead coming down the final stretch.  I really can't figure Banks out. I really think he has the kind of game that should help us, but it seemed he struggled to guard anyone last night. Shooters shot over him and their guards drove around him.  Did anyone else see it the same way?

It’s an interesting conversation. I think the natural follow up conversation would be “why aren’t we that talented?”

I think you can make an argument that  we might be skilled but not athletic in the starters, and athletic but not skilled with the bench. It seems to me just about every team we have played has been quicker than us. Am I wrong?

I believe all of this came with just one of Ware/Reneau in the game.

Shooting aside, the space and pace is much better without them both. This is similar stuff that XJ was running on his hot streak at the end of the ‘22 season.

I really hope the coaches look at this and play more this way moving forward. Not saying we should never have the two bigs in together, but lots of three guard lineups and lineups with Walker at the four with just one of the two bigs need to happen.

    Totally agree.
