Race returned against MSU at home.

He didn't play in the road game at Michigan. I went back and looked at the box scores, and other than the last home against Michigan, since returning from injury it appears Race has played about 20 to 21 minutes a game.

    I'm sure he's not 100% even yet.

We have a consensus All-American. We have a guard who many think is a first round draft choice. We will be playing against teams who have never seen us before, other than on tape. For all the accolades that this board heaps on TJD, there seems to be this persistent negativity about this team.

I believe that he is not going to want to leave IU without making some noise. I believe that regardless of all the numbers and achievements, he wants to create a legacy that is more than just being a stat sheet stuffer.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we are playing in the Elite 8. As much as TJD has carried us thus far, I think he has a ways to go

I don't think the problem is TJD. The other seniors, however, have to step up and they haven't been able to do it consistently

Who is “he”? I’ve not once named anyone. I was responding to the board as a whole in reference to the floated speculation that we win this game or that game with X. Never did I mention Woodson.

Of course health matters in sports lol.

I don’t think anyone is debating the effect of injuries. I see a bench full of players capable of providing a breather and meaningful minutes.

I guess it’s “dumb” to counter conjecture with the other side of conjecture.

I am going to be that guy. I'll say the obligatory "i'm not a coach," so i'm dumb, but why does a sixth year senior stay in the game after multiple mistakes, but more talented (at least physically) players get yanked much quicker.

I have grown to appreciate Kopp's hustling aggressive D.  But, he is a big disappointment if his role is shooting 3s.  Even when he gets a good outlet pass and has an open look, he often hestitates/dribbles and ends up ruining an opportunity to score.  very weird behavior for a mature player in that position.

Agree on Kopp, but it also seemed to me that a couple of open fast breaks looks he did not set his feet when he had time.

Glad I stayed away from the game thread, and this one seems to be headed down the same hole. The negative turn here is really disappointing.

We got beat today by a group of old, experienced players. IMO, turning points of the game were both problems stemming from our inexperienced guys. Trace doubles to help inside, shot missed, MR doesn’t block out and their big has a dunk put back. Next defensive possession MR overplays on Lundy and gives up an and 1. Finally, we tie it and come down and JHS turns it over leading to a Funk 3 and away they go. Their experienced guys made experienced plays. Our young guys made young guy mistakes. Hopefully, they can learn from them as we will need better play from them in the tournament that matters.

Proud of the fight we exhibited. Like @Indykevsaid, I wondered why we didn’t press more/earlier. With them playing 3 games in 3 days, I think we could have worn them out. Very pleased with Bates, and think he has surpassed TG. Kopp has to get out of his own head and be ready to shoot when he’s open.
We will have the advantage of playing v teams who have never faced a TJD. This talk of not making it out of the 1st round is laughable.

Some folks need to get a grip. Only one team was going to win this tournament, and frankly having an extra day’s rest isn’t a bad thing

Agree with just about everything, but I would point out that we had some experienced players that didn't play like experienced players

  6. someone mentioned it, but look at our really bad loses, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa (can't include Penn St. in this analysis, that was just bad). All of those teams run a motion offense that we could not contain.  Don't know what that says about Coach Woodson's defensive scheme. Seems like he is going to have to try something different next year.

I'm not all that upset. IU didn't play well at all, but even if we did, I'm still not sure we would have won.

Just felt like it was Iowa's night tonight.

Iowa has not shot that well from 3 all season on the road.  Tonight they lit it up. We can't win giving up more than 10 threes at home.

Refs sucked but I don't think that's really a factor in why we lost tonight, just didn't have it.

Was going to take a herculean effort with all the external factors and we didn't bring that.

absolutely right. Trayce missed two layups in the first two minutes of the second half and we give up two 3s, I knew it wasn't our night.

IMO he didn’t on the block but what I saw on the big screen he did it right before. I’d like to see another relay of the full play.

I also saw the second angle from what appeared to be more from behind Fino and from that angle it did not appear that his arm touched Epps at all. Agree with the view from the first angle

let’s set the scene a bit more little less drastic considering a non shooting foul on team fouls 7 8 an 9 isn’t drastic.

football: ball on the one yard line. DB gets dusted on a double move fade to the corner. He grabs receiver. Holding or PI, doesn’t matter. What is the defense giving up to save the touchdown?

soccer: defender is even with the attacker. But in open field. Defender goes in shoulder first. Probably gets yellow card. Virtually yellow card means nothing much like these personal fouls until they accumulate.

One thing I'll add about soccer, a yellow card means that a second yellow card foul is automatic disqualification and your team now plays with 10 men, so while often done, it is a possibly severe penalty

  11. I waited a while to post, but this was just such an awesome win.  If i'm not mistaken, twice we took the lead in the second half only to have Michigan come down and get a bucket and a foul to go back up by two. I kept thinking to myself, in years past that would have been the end of the comeback, but this team just kept battling back. So proud. Sure, a lot of things could have gone better on offense, but just such a clutch performance.

    Tamar Bates= 100% a basketball play ... called for a flagrant?

Donta Smith= slaps MK who is behind him and the opposite way Smith is going? No call

    👍👍👍👍

absolutely agree with this. Hummel said of Bates, "he's got to go for the ball." if you watch the replay, he gets his hand on the ball.

Except for that 7-2 run they had in the 2H, they somewhat disintegrated after that

Haven't commented post game very often, but can't say enough praise for the defensive intensity.  Wisconsin did hit a couple of threes when we lost their shooters, still can't afford to do that.

IMO that thinking (we need an IU guy) is as shortsighted as limiting recruiting to the state of Indiana.

I'm an IU guy, and I don't mean to start an argument, but when I think I want an IU guy it is because I associate a former IU basketball player with grit, smarts and a competitive spirit (and maybe someone who can shoot). When I think of hiring an IU guy I am, in a shorthand way, of saying that we need someone with the ability to bring those characteristics to his team. I also expect that an IU guy knows this is what made IU great, so he doesn't have to learn it. Doesn't mean he necessarily has to be IU grad, but like I said, he should already know this and so already understands what IU is about. Sure thought Woody knew this and he talked as if he knew this.

This is just one of a few...Trayce leaves his guy to guard Audige (with Galloway) leaving Verhoven to cut inside for a dunk...Maybe it was Reneau's responsibility to cover for Trayce, but he was going out to guard Barnhizer on the perimeter...

    Anyway, you're right...Not good communication...

maybe i'm wrong, but it looked like to me when we would get doubled on the wing, the wing defender on the off side (in this case CJ) would go half-way between the outside players and the Reneau player would take the bucket. We must have thrown three or four passed right to the wing defender cross court. Don't know why we couldn't do that.
