I've seen you repeat this twice now.  I'm just a casual observer and in 2.5 years I've sensed very little ego.  What's your connection to the program or Woodson and what are some examples of this huge/high ego?

Have you seen his press conferences? Watch his press conference after Nebraska. His answers to reporters…He also needs to show some accountability instead of placing blame on his players. His unwillingness to change schematics?

Yes, and reportedly Woodson did not like the idea that he needed help and he barely listened to Matta...if you believe the rumor mill.

Woodson has incredible stubbornness and a high ego, it’s why it makes it so hard to believe he will just retire or even make a change to his coaching style. He is set in his ways despite the fact that everyone else sees differently. Some will ask, “surely his assistants see this style doesn’t work?” As for his assistants, they’re “yes sir” assistants and their primary purpose is to recruit and bring recruits on campus. Are they good at that in the NIL age? Probably differing opinions. You be the judge

I've had this thought for a while, and have not shared it, and I haven't seen it addressed (so far) in this thread, or others.

We have talent. Good talent. It doesn't appear to be used properly.

Watching the body language of players, as well as how they play, I've come to the conclusion that we're just not mentally tough. Gallo, Walker & Cupps are. Jury is still out on Mac. Ware is weak, X is out of control, Gunn is who knows what, Banks seems lost most of the time.

Knight was great at developing mental toughness. You'd have to be mentally tough to endure all of his "intensity". I don't think the staff has developed any mental toughness. All of the guys on the team are great people with great personalities, but I don't see them as mentally tough on the floor.

You look at teams like PU, Wisky, Rutgers. They're all mentally tough. Always great effort. We don't have that.

Oh…we’re definitely soft. There’s no question about that.

Was just looking at the B1G standings and stats.  IU is the only B1G team to allow more points than scored on the full season. That includes 7-11 Michigan

Yup…it’s a product of getting blown out multiple times and winning by small margins. I fully expect next game to be another blowout to add to Woodson double digit loss statistics.

The situation with Fife and Matta was a red flag. Fife govt fired however Matta left to be a HC at Butler and Woodson technically wasn’t his boss. That said Woodson didn’t listen to his suggestions because he wanted to do things “his” way. Which as a coach I get but “his” way hasn’t worked

Woodson has a very large ego and is stubborn.

I'm wouldn't say Woodson is owed getting another year and I'm not saying he should be fired but it would be extremely tricky to fire him after just 3 years. I think Dolson would have to have the backing from the power alums and some agreement from who he would bring in before pulling the trigger. I don't see either of those things happening.

As @DC2345 said, Woodson deciding to retire is probably the only exit scenario and I would be shocked if he decided to do that.

Allow Woodson give his blessing to the next head coach

The only way that Woodson isn’t the coach is if he decides he can’t do the job and retires. I don’t see that happening but you never know. I also didn’t see things going this far off the rails but here we are. Also Fisch speaking out about he culture of the program isn’t a good look at all for Woodson because his words carry serious weight around the Indiana program.

This is my sentiment…but, like you, didn’t think the season would be going this far off the rails. I fully expect to get our asses handed to us against Illinois. I think it may be more probable (albeit slight) that Buckner and May have a talk with Woodson.

That line about 10 new players galls me. @5fouls has broken down numerous times why that number is not the most accurate because of walk ons. The most galling thing about that statement though is that it’s likely that we are in the same boat next year with new players. Are we going to be 19 games into next season still trying to figure crap out?

    Very good point!

I think we have forgotten how unimpressed most were with the CMW hire when it was announced.

What seemed to placate fans was we were given some sort of holy trinity of BB in the deal.  CMW with NBA experience and a modern approach to our play. for the present, Matta for college experience, and last Fife for the future.  Now Matta is gone and successful once again.  Fife has gone who knows where.  CMW is left standing on his own now and the emperor has no clothes.

Unfortunately, he has shown us nothing more than CAM 2.0 for now his 3rd year.  It's Groundhog Day with men's IUBB.  I see no evidence of any change for this season and no evidence of improvement next year.

IUBB is a meritocracy.  I'm officially giving my vote of NO CONFIDENCE.  He should retire or be fired at the end of this year.  If not both he and Dolson need to be fired and replaced.

Good points…you should also mention he inherited a generational talent in TJD.

Do you believe Mike Woodson is the guy to make this a top 25 team next season?

If the answer is yes, then you give him that next year that he deserves. If the answer is no, then you have to make the move after the season.

You can't lose a year because the coach 'deserves' the chance.

As each game/day/week goes by with the lack of player development, team development, accountability, borderline Kenny Payne type answers, unwillingness to change schematics that clearly don’t work, the question to your answer is increasingly no. Now, if you go back, I’ve always said it will be hard to nudge Woodson into retirement due to the other factors involved…but again, as each day goes by, it’s seems like…as improbable as it was….a little more probable that you may have those other factors/people talk to Woodson. This is getting bad and IUBB doesn’t deserve this.

I could do an entire tirade on Woody and where his head is at, starting with him making Scott fly out to meet him for the interview to quashing the Matta/Fife help, to him acting like this job is the victory lap for his career.   But I’m not going there out of restraint and no one wants to hear it.

Woodson too damn stubborn. Quite frankly, he needs to be humbled.
