  1. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. If it’s time to move on then move. Delaying when the picture is clear in this case is a continuation of failure.

He has zero high school kids coming in. None. When do you all remember that as being a thing. This isn't the NBA, Mr Woodson. The portal is not the NBA draft as you’re treating it to be.

This is from another boards insider. Take it however you want-I’m not saying it’s true or accurate.

First thing's first, congrats to the IU women on the 4-seed and hosting opportunity. Tough draw, but they call it madness for a reason. Secondly, love you guys and this community, but goodness you're not shy about using the private message feature. Sorry for ghosting many of you but easier to just post publicly.

And, now that I've effectively buried the lead, Woodson is back next year with a couple caveats and interesting details:

    - Meeting Tuesday happened as scheduled and talk was future of the basketball program and specifically how Woody fits in that plan

    - Though Dolson and BoT disagree about it happening now, consensus was that this isn't the bridge hire they'd hoped for and this is his last year barring some miracle B1G championship or FF run next year that would make for bad optics.

    - Woodson was given the opportunity to retire and go out amicably but said no and that he thinks he can use the portal to put us in a better position to transition to another coach after next year.

    - Dolson laid out expectations for portal results and win/loss results next season that would result in letting Woody go; just my opinion but it sounds like Buckner, boosters, etc. got him the 4th year but Scotty Dolson has his finger on the eject button and Woodson knows it. Fully expect him to announce a "planned retirement" next year so he can go out on his "own terms"

    - For what it's worth, Dolson did put out feelers and got positive feedback on interest from 2 of his top 3 potential replacement candidates; think we can get May with a text message, Pearl has serious interest but wouldn't make a move if his team makes a FF run or wins a natty.

    - I think we as a fanbase/board are higher on Dusty than the administration/BoT; sounds like they're only interested in a homerun hire, win now guy if they do move and risking a third straight miss isn't something they're willing to do and just because he has IU ties and made a good tourney run, feeling is May isn't a guarantee at this level.

That's what I've got that I'm able to share comfortably right now. Not what myself or anybody on this board probably wants to hear. Moral is one more year is 95% likely (everyone root for UCONN in the S16, and a miracle!) It's kind of messy internally and they're trying to move on to get IU back to a top tier program while letting Woodson ride into the sunset having left the program in a good place and "stepping aside" for the good of the program. ??

-High school recruiting will suffer with any hint that a coach is gone next season.

-A better staff could bring in and assemble a better team and build a foundation sooner rather than later. (Leave the program in a better position)

-If it’s Pearl you seek of your top three and he wants it, why wait? He could build now plus he's not getting any younger. The opportunity might not be the same a year from now.

    None of it makes sense.

Im not buying whats being served on that site.

Not 70,  but at 58, I'll put myself in the 'older' category since I saw Woodson play, and he was one of my favorite players.  I'm NOT in favor of him at coach.

That said, how is it any different that some older guys favor Woodson while younger fans favor Dusty May?  There is a huge difference in being head coach at FAU and being head coach at IU.

Do I need to make a list of flavor of the month coaches who had a great run in the tournament, but ultimately were 'meh', or worse?

Make your argument based on something other than age.

So age is the new topic and what was taken from my post as objectionable. Oh joy.

Buckner, Thomas et al of the Woodson era have pushed him into position. Older folks. Because anyone way younger than 45 I am guessing has no idea who he is or was. Age is completely relevant when it comes to Woodson being selected as head coach. Not because of his age directly but indirectly because of his affiliation with folks in charge of same or similar age that drool over his teenage skillset.

Since you brought up May, what Dusty May has accomplished as a college coach is much more proven than that of Woodson no matter the age. All while doing it with peanuts compared to what Woodson has done with IU resources. While the crown at IU may have once carried more weight, coaches like Dusty have shown it to be less relevant today by building winning programs at teeny tiny schools with zero history and minimal basketball following. Because he is a good coach who can get more with less. Woodson on the other hand needs billionaires and NBA allstars.

Dusty has created a winning culture capable of beating an Arizona with kids not many were after, in a gym the size of most middle school gyms.

Bruce Pearl might even be the same age as Woodson but is a proven winning college coach.

In IUs case though its nostalgia. Folks of older generations trying to hang onto a thread of the RMK era. Woodson, a once Knight pupil has come to save IU from the clutches of modernism and innovation of which IU has escaped but to fail undeniably unless your an “true fan” willing to follow blindly.

Ironic to me that we are not “true fans” because we want to hold this program to a standard of “tournament or bust” and yet our coaching staff declines an NIT invitation.

Had little to no faith in Woodson from the start (due to his ZERO experience at the college level) but his greatest accomplishment to date being getting an ass whooping in the R32, along with no 2024 recruits, and him ending the season with a 20+ loss saying post game that his system works but we just “don’t hit the shots” was the nail in the coffin for me.

No objective reason to think he’ll land 4-5 of the best players in the portal, or get the players with specific skills to make his system look better than it is. Even if he does acquire enough talent, they’ll likely be 1 year players and we’re back to another giant rebuild next year.

Coach Woodson said himself he came here to win championships but we’re heading into year 4 with possibly his weakest roster ever and any “true fan” wouldn’t think getting a conference title or S16 is a reasonable offseason expectation.

Taking all of this into consideration, what’s the point of giving this man another season?

What more does it take? Isn't it bad enough that our one and only commit said nope and our staff has zero incoming recruits for next season? Can you imagine Archie Miller in this situation?

    we agree.....its on both.

Starts with the staff. These kids didn't just start playing basketball. They were good players before they arrived. But they are a piece of a puzzle and the coach has to utilize them, improve them and lead them. Leadership at the top stinks and trickles down to the players leading to the dysfunctional mess we are watching

I love IU in probably an unhealthy way. I am so frickin tired of this being our March. That's my point and I'll be back on the positive train in a few weeks but good God.....Nebraska. Nebraska is doing this to us. Time to time out before I disrespect the board or anyone else.

You're not wrong. We all feel the same way. Some of us have just seen it coming earlier than others. We all want IU to be a tough opponent to draw in the big dance.

I honestly would rather lose like this instead of both teams playing like crap and losing something like 59-52.

You said it well.  That was a beautiful half by Nebraska.

I hope Nebraska and Purdue both make deep runs in the NCAA tourney. The B1G has been so disrespected for too long now. If Nebraska plays like this they will be a tough out.

What will this team look like next year? We think this is cringeworthy. Ware NBA bound? McNeeley re-opened recruitment. Will we ever find anyone who can shoot outside Mgbako?

We will be a brand new team made up of transfers from the portal along with 2 superior returning 5th year seniors guards. Very exciting!

Oh they dont like when you talk bad about Woody or the team....one post one week ban for me....lmao That were the hillbillies live.... Anthony Leal is the best player ever he went to bloomington south high school. Mike Woodson is the best coach ever, he scored a bunch of points at IU. he played for Bobby Knight you leave him alone.

Change his name to Mike Davis or Archie Miller and he's already gone.

The college players now are no different than any NBA players in terms of criticism being they get paid more than most of the fans that bought a ticket to support them in person.

As for Woodson, he needs major ringers to save his name next season and has not a single recruit for 2024. Will he get it done? Only the portal knows. How much money will it cost the donors to salvage next season while allowing Mike Woodson to remain head coach? He will retire at some point as one of the most unliked coaches of IU history.

Moving on, I feel we have once again reached the point of beating a dead horse. The admin is bringing him back. Speaking here to vent your frustrations is fine. Im as guilty as anyone. It's just not going to change anything. I would imagine speaking to Dolson directly at this point would be like having a conversation with a bowl of wax fruit.

Besides, most of us are not true fans. Im a fan of my university. If true fan means fan of Mike Woodson, then that I am not.

My cousin packed up all of his IU gear and sent it to Dolson. smh. He is a huge ND football fan, said he'll focus on ND basketball since they know what a good coach is.

I own three scorp in town. Through them I know a lot of people that go but are not happy with the direction of the program or the admin.

Just my immediate family including inlaws has now 6 pair of season tickets. Some we give away to friends and folks that haven't been. I have no interest atm
