If he's that good, he will go to any team he wants and start.
Unfortunately probably true.

I think at the very least we get a backup 5 (Konstantynovskyi?)...
And I'd love to round out the roster with the Hemenway kid if he passes the health tests...
We have to get a backup 5. Just need a rim protector/rebounder/screener. There should be around 15 minutes available. Can't roll with Malik or MM at the 5 if Ballo gets hurt or sick.

Welcome home Luke! Always great to get some boys from the Fort!!

Love it. That kind of speed translates to any level. Added bonus that he would already know CCC's system and culture.

FTR, I'm not saying it's impossible. But there's depth and there's 'stupid depth'. You need 'stupid depth' to get close to a platoon substitution in CBB. On top of that you'll need to avoid injuries....so that stupid depth is more like 11-12 deep. And selling that in today's climate of transfers, NIL and the desire for playing time is a tough task.
Maybe I'll be proven wrong though.
Kentucky tried that one year when they had the Harrison twins. It worked with moderate success until there were injuries and certain players struggled or didn't mesh. Cal ended up settling on more of a 7-8 man rotation.

This is what I'm hoping for. If Reneau can float between the low post, mid range and occasionally step out for a 3, we're in good shape and could play him and Ballo together without any issues. I don't expect Reneau to be a 3 point sniper, but if he can step out and at least make the defense respect his shot, he's going to be a major asset.
Malik's 3 point shooting and ability to handle the ball were considerably better last season. There were times our guards were pressured full court that Malik ended up bringing the ball up the court. If he continues to improve those areas of his game, he might compliment Ballo better than we think.
Imagine if Ballo's man helps out on Malik or tries to block his shot. Ballo will be free for lobs or put backs. That's exactly Ballo's game.

I know we need a shooter but not sure how many minutes will be available for him. I think Leal, with his knowledge of the system / IQ might be a better option.
I see where you're coming from, but Leal usually seems hesitant to pull the trigger. Essegian, when healthy, seems more like a sniper ready to let it fly. Just my impression.

I’ve got a bet with a coworker that UK won’t get oats, Hurley or Drew. Also bet him IU will have a better record.
I like your odds on the first part, not sure about the second until we see who we get in the portal, and who UK gets as coach. I certainly hope YOU win!

Just out of curiosity....what name is getting that group of inbreds all moist and tingly? Let me guess....Donovan?
I've seen some think they have a legit shot at Hurley. Stranger things have happened, but I just don't see it. I've also heard from down here that Oats has told them no at least twice.

The fact that a pro level guard didn't want to join Purdue to play with Edey speaks volumes about the state of Big Ten Basketball. The Big Ten currently has the fewest guards in the NBA out of all the P6 schools. It's crazy to me that 5 star guard didn't to play for Purdue. I'm sure that Painters style of play had something to do with this but the BIG TEN has to change how it plays MBB if it wants to win a championship again.
B1G needs to put an end to rugby-ball. Purdue had their fun, but let's put an end to camping in the lane, then elbowing your way to an easy layup.
Wisky seems like they're moving away from the overt physicality. Painter seems to have doubled down with his future centers. Now's the time, with our west coast additions, to send out a memo to all schools that the B1G is serious about playing modern basketball. That's the only way the B1G can start competing again.

For two straight seasons purdue had the best player on the court in every game and couldn't get it done.
Best team vs best player. Team always wins. Wasn't close.

Absolutely. Edey is a stud. I don't agree with what he gets away with, but he is a generational player.

So you're telling me that you would rather have Gabe Cupps as your starting pg over an extremely talented future nba player? Even if it is only for 1 season? We must not watch the same games. From what I saw all season Indiana Basketball is desperate for an elite point guard.
Although I didn't specify a specific pg, I was referencing an experienced, proven pg from the portal such as Rice or Carlyle. Cupps shouldn't have played more than 5-10 minutes per game last season; he wasn't ready for more than that. If we had filled our open scholarship with a proven combo guard last season, Cupps sits and learns. He doesn't come close to meeting my criteria.

Kentucky, as a program, lost a major recruiting advantage with the onset of NIL. Since it's no longer illegal for players to receive money, recruits dont have to take under the table payment to afford that BMW they wanted.
Lord knows no players were going to UK for the girls.
Spot on. It brought the dirty recruiting a little more above board. Cal double down on his previously successful recruiting philosophy of focusing on the 1 and done. As someone mentioned in regards to going after Boogie Fland, I'll take an experienced pg over his draft "potential" all day.

Connor Hickman visit to Indiana confirmed for April 14th.
There's the knockdown shooter we need. He looks more athletic, and drives to the basket better than I was expecting. It would be nice to have someone that can make opponents pay for going under screens. That would also open up the lane for Malik. Hope we get him to come home.

Staying overnight in Louisville in a couple weeks at the Brown Hotel so we can arrive, eat there in the beautiful hotel and not have to leave until the morning. Have never been to the Brown Hotel but it looks gorgeous and a destination in itself.
We return to our normal programming, Dusty May bball 🤣. Carry on!
The Brown Hotel, home of the Kentucky Hot Brown. Delicious!

Good video here. not a top shelf athlete, but springy, seems like a has a big wing span.
He isn't weak from behind the 3pt line, in fact, his shot looks solid.
Shot is a little flat, but has a very quick release. The highlights showed most of his pull-ups were from 10-15 feet, not the CJ Gunn 18-20 footers. Also really like his ability to create his own shot, and drive with either hand.

Exactly. Give me another experienced Indiana boy that feels honored to wear the jersey. That's how you create a great culture and competitive practices. Ideal for a backup.
