Exactly,…. any/most major D1 schools wouldn’t do what the IU administration/BoT’s is allowing. There is something to this situation. It just seems “bought” with conditional promises….

I think you're on to something. We'll know for sure within a week or 2 of the Final Four.  IF Woodson can't land enough top portal players to build a competitive team, AND Dolson has a proven power 4 coach that wants the job, a change could be made. Seems like there may be too many egos involved for that to occur, but I guess we'll see.

Better NIL, better shoe contract(he hates UA). Basketball history. Facilities are better. He would recruit like a madman at Indiana.

100%. Plus basketball will ALWAYS be a distant second, if not third, priority to Auburn and their fans. (My BIL played baseball there) People were barely engaged for most of the season. They got excited for the SEC tournament,  but if they lose in the sweet 16, most of their fans will forget quickly and move on to spring football practice and baseball. Bruce would embrace the spotlight of being the Indiana head coach the way no coach has since RMK.

We seem to forget we have an outstanding rim protector. Let Tominaga drive and try to shoot over him

Exactly.  And X is a very good on-ball defender with a ton of experience.  Tominaga schooled Cupps with his movement, cuts, and overall savvy.  As long as X stays out of foul trouble, he should give Tominaga problems.

Your contract could dictate that Indiana doesn't financially want to make the move if/when the job becomes available.

You are maybe playing Devil's Advocate but I look at it like this, you got a buddy who is still working for a company you started your career with.  He says people in the company have noticed you and think you would be a good fit for leadership there.  However, they just publically doubled down on the person whose job you would supposedly be the fit for and you have 3 other offers at other really good companies offering you multiple times your current salary and more resources to do the type of job you do for your current company.

I'm not waiting around for that mythical offer no matter how much that may be my dream job.  In my experience, those "you are totally our next guy" positions rarely come to fruition.  You make your move when you are at your peak and if dream job isn't offering now, you take the job being offered.

Now if dream job comes calling and you are still interested in a year or two, you can still make your move.  Even then though, you could both want it but the finances aren't there to actually make the move.

If I am Dusty May and it is confirmed Woodson is locked in for next year and Ohio State offers me $3.5+ million to come be their coach, then I am a Buckeye in the here and now and I will figure out that other stuff if we ever come across that bridge.

Well said. Waiting around for this IU administration,  especially with QB as board chairman, to make a wise decision is beyond risky. We could squeak into the tournament as one of the last 4 in the next several years, and Woodson will be retained. That's not a risk with my career or finances I would be willing to take. If he kills it and wants to come home, pull a Roy Williams and do it then.

I also want to add, there is nothing wrong with what Woodson likes as long as you realize that about yourself and act accordingly.  I would have all the respect in the world for Woodson if he basically came out and said, "You know what, I love Indiana University and I love coaching.  However, I don't love all the other aspects that a college coach has to do outside those two things to be successful the way the game has gone these days.  Therefore I am going to retire early so that someone who does love those things can build on what we have done here to set the groundwork for NIL and the modern approach.  I will be available to help that person continue to grow this place that I love so much."

If Woodson came out and said something like that at Senior night, much respect and standing ovation from the crowd and he still gets to be Woodson the hero.  If he holds on for whatever reason and doesn't change up the things he isn't doing for whatever reason he isn't doing them though, he is going to tarnish his legacy.  Brad Stevens knew he didn't like the college life.  Jay Wright has said the new game isn't for him.  Other coaches have expressed similar thoughts as of late.  And I get it, some of this really sucks from my POV as well.  It is the reality though.  So if Woodson isn't 100% bought in to what it takes, he needs to be self aware enough to say he isn't the guy.  And that reasoning would have nothing to do with his coaching ability, it is all about preference.

That off ramp is available, I would love to see him take it.

Absolutely beautiful take on the situation.  Nothing personal.  No conjecture.  No rationalizing or making excuses. I wish he would follow your plan for everyone's sake.

Wasn’t sure where to post this but looks like James Hardy IV committed to Purdue as a preferred walk-on. His dad was such a fun player to watch and it’s still so sad how things ended for him. Thought y'all would like to know.

I believe he went to my high school,  New Haven. Could be mistaken. Good luck to him.

but even then, he is sitting behind Loyer, Colvin and Heide in the 2-3 for how long, not including Harris coming in next year.

It's up to him if he wants to eek out minutes for a very good regular season team, or play.

But this is 2 years away. a lot can happen. Hell, we dont even know who our coach is going to be then.

If I am a HS recruit, I am waiting until the last signing period to commit.

Exactly.  No top recruit is gonna panic over Purdue's scholarship situation.

I'll be embarrassed as f*** if we lose TKR/Sisley to Purdue. MSU, Duke, UNC, KU takes a recruit from us... ok. Should never lose a recruit to Purdue, especially not Southern Indiana kids.

If I'm Sisley though, Painter is playing me at the 3, zero chance I'd want to play the 4 at Purdue and be their centers little b**** like TKR, Gillis, and Furst is for them now.

This is my thought as well. How does Sisley look at Purdue's current system, albeit a successful one, and see how his skills will be utilized to their fullest? IU is a mess, but even playing MM's role, he can thrive as long as he can hit shots. Furst and TKR should be cautionary tales, not selling points. The Robbie Hummel role of 15 years ago no longer exists in Purdue's offense.

I think we need multiple guys who can create and shoot. That’s like #1-3 or 4 on the list.

We have a 6'5" 3 star combo guard that has deep range and runs point. His dad is from Indiana and loves IU. Son grew up cheering for the Hoosiers. Woody and staff barely talked to him. He's going to Creighton and gonna be a stud. Incredibly disappointing.

Now that’s an efficient, quick delivery….Bam, that ball is out.

Agree. He snaps the ball out with some serious pop. His entire footwork, body rotation, and arm motion are extremely efficient. He could operate very well in a tight pocket.

Not sure. I don't think we've heard anything definitive on either Leal or Galloway.

I'd love to have them both back, though there would definitely need to be other backcourt/wing changes around them.

For sure. In a perfect world Galloway is a sixth man, energy guy next season. Leal would provide leadership, depth, and experience.  He's already demonstrated he thrives in that role, and doesn't require many minutes, if any, to be valuable to the team.

I think an interesting note with Leal playing more is that in the Iowa game Leal and Galloway combined for 14 rebounds and last night they combined for 12.

In both games we outrebounded our opponents. It takes so much pressure off both the defense and offense when you hold teams to just 1 shot.

Something to keep watching as Leal most likely continues to play more.

Has Leal given any indication on whether he intends to play his additional season next year? It seems like he has a great mind for business and already has his career started. I'd love to have another year with him in whatever role the team needs.

We haven’t seen numbers this low since early Crean years…and despite some bad play, Archie’s teams didn’t come close to being ranked in the hundreds. Real tough times. Program needs to really look at itself hard. We’ve nosedived in these rankings. Is this the style we want to play?

Style of play, but also the effort. That's the most concerning thing to me. Effort on defense,  rebounding, and going for loose balls. Just a general lack of energy by the team and coaches. I'm not sure that's correctable at this point.

I thought for a while there that Leal's mom posted here.

She did, and was always very sweet. We had a running joke about her amazing meatloaf. I believe she corrected us and said her meatloaf is only average,  but her lasagna was off the charts. Happy for her and Anthony's family after his performance the other night.

    During his lifetime....yes.

The 76-77 team ended with a record of 14-13 that was adjusted to 16-11 because Minnesota had to forfeit all their games, including two wins against us. This included a 17 point beatdown by Purdue in AH.

Yes, we were coming off what should have been 2 consecutive undefeated seasons, and RMK certainly had earned a down year, but that still doesn't explain away the fact that when a team loses a huge amount of talent, like both that team and this year's team, there is going to be a drop off. Has CMW deserved to see it through this year? I think so. We'll end up better than 14-13, for sure. Did RMK's system suddenly not work, or had he not built a good roster? What do you think?

And before you bring up the talent on this team, that 76-77 team still had an All-American in Benson. Woodson averaged 18.5 ppg as a freshman. Glen Grunwald, who RMK stated several times was the best player he ever recruited before he got hurt, was a freshman. Wayne Radford (RIP) was a solid player who was drafted and played for the Pacers. The team was not bereft of talent.

When a team was as dependent on one or two players as last year's was, and those guys leave, there absolutely is going to be an adjustment. Indictment or no, off seasons happen. And I happen to believe that this year does not mean that the state of IU basketball is falling off a cliff.

Great perspective.  This year has been so frustrating,  but it's a reminder when generational talent AND leadership graduate, there is a void that is hard to replace. Not saying TJD was Buckner, May, and company,  but leadership wise, he was exceptional.

We replaced most of the talent in the post with Ware and a much improved Reneau. However,  no one has TJD's ability to lead. The glaring hole at lead scoring guard is obvious,  but the lack of leadership is equally detrimental.

Really impressed with Leal today too. I think he earned regular rotation minutes.

The defense really improved when he was in the game. Illinois was isolating Cupps and taking advantage of him. Leal is taller, stronger, and much more experienced.  He can switch and not put us in a disadvantage.  Now he just needs to take and hit a couple 3s!
