You know, if I was an Illini fan, I think I'd be on the verge of panicking...

2 holdovers from last year (Ty Rodgers and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn) and this bunch incoming...

    Illinois Fighting Illini
    Incoming transfers

Carey Booth: A 6-foot-10, 203-pound forward from Notre Dame, Booth averaged 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2023-24.

Kylan Boswell: A 6-foot-2, 200-pound guard from Arizona, Boswell averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists per game as a sophomore in 2023-24.

Tre White: A 6-foot-7 guard, White averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Louisville in 2023-24.

Jake Davis: A 6-foot-6 wing, Davis averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman at Mercer in 2023-24.

Along with  freshmen 4 star Morez Johnson, and 3 star Jason Jakstys

They have 5 more spots, and one of their main targets, Northern Illinois F Xavier Amos just committed to Wisconsin...

Amos was not a top target. This was always going to be a big rebuild. Once Hawkins and TSJ decided to return last year, they went all in and added the 3 SR Xfers. This time they are adding more multi year guys so should be less turnover going forward. Of course that's all theoretical these days.

Pretty amazing that DGL is one of the guys staying! 🤣

Eight players transferred from a fairly successful team.  Is it safe to say players hate coach Underwear after they see him up close for awhile?

    Eight?

I guess this is kinda good news for the Illini...

I do not expect Hawkins back. If he doesn't stay in the draft he may decide to play closer to home on the west coast or see what kind of big NIL $ he can get. Illinois does have a donor that will fund another year for him at UI, but you never know what's out on the open market. Good move to cover your bases.

Seems like our comrades in Champaign have some splaining to do...

Badgers are truly butthurt that they are losing the portal game. 🤣

Anyone who doesn't realize tampering is rampant in the game today must be a complete idiot.

And you got some splaining to do why you read Outkick. 🤣

I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is first or second team all conference wherever he decides to go

That would be a pretty huge jump for a guy with a very low usage rate at a mid major. But it could happen.

I can’t see Newton nor Leal getting off the bench if that is the case. Should be bigs from here on out now.

Ironic, isn't having Leal committed one of the reasons IU didn't offer Goode out of HS?

When he walked at senior day it seemed odd

Big wing who can shoot….will have plenty of suitors

Guessing he has a good idea of where he wants to go of he wouldn’t enter portal

He had his degree, why not walk? Others have done it and returned before. I hope it's ND and not IU but wish him the best regardless. He's mainly a spot up guy but did make some nice strides with rebounding as well last year. I know IU's business school is highly rated so that could be a big draw along with being able to go back home.

"Clinging" would imply that I had this narrative prior to 2024.  Also, nice Reddit-style attempt at a shut down.  "Please never change".  What, no clown emoji? C'mon now...

Nowhere near as important as it once was.

"going to go the way of the dodo" certainly sounds like you've had it a while.

Hey Luke Goode is in the portal, buzz for IU and ND. You guys could certainly use his shooting skills, he can be the new Miller Kopp. 😁

Bag men like him are going to go the way of the dodo. Who needs a guy with under the table connections when you can pay guys above board?

Still clinging to this narrative in 2024 is simply astounding. Please never change. 🤣

Orlando's pretty good at coaching up the big fellas, too.

In the days when “incentives” had to be of the wink-wink-nudge-nudge variety, having a guy with a “network” like Antigua made sense. Today, Crean is absolutely right. Talent acquisition needs to be in the hands of the head coach and the personnel/support group. Let the three actual assistants focus on skills and development.

You really think that "network" is not longer important? 🤣

Michigan only takes sophomore credits or a grad transfer. They will take you just not your credits.

Yep, Illinois has the same policy but made an exception for TSJ.

Wonder if Brad might ask for another one to get Davis? 🤔

But I've heard his NIL ask is even higher than Storr, so probably not.

I’m obviously biased but I don’t think there’s any way you can leave Purdue out of the top 25 even without a championship. Top 10 in all-time wins, most B1G championships, All-Americans galore. Don’t see any real argument for Wisky over Purdue honestly especially with them missing the tournament 40+ years in a row.

Have to agree, Purdue should be there. If they have Wisconsin ahead of Purdue then they'd be ahead of my Illini too and I'm not buying that.

I think the long term successful formula is 8 returning players, 2-3 HS recruits and 2-3 portal players every year.

I doubt many programs are going to be able to retain 8 each season. Even those programs that don't emphasize adding via the portal are going to have to try and retain their bench guys.

  11. 5 hours ago, Zlinedavid said:

At this point, it’s almost easier to list the players that haven’t entered the portal

I pretty much assume any player could leave each year. And getting less and less interested in following HS recruiting. Just wait until the portalling is done and see what the roster looks like in August.
