However you want to characterize it Scott... He handed Bailey the keys to the offense after Clary got injured, put D'Marco Dunn in the 2 spot and won 3 in a row... So he kept it that way...

If you watched their Michigan State game a week or so ago, you could see Clary was clearly unhappy...

Bailey came to PSU from VCU along with the new head coach, Clary was a Shrews recruit and one of the few guys who returned from last season. So probably some bad chemistry along with the academic issues. One less small guard for the Illini to chase around tomorrow night in Rec Hall.

I actually think that's pretty bad. First of all, he ran off most of the players he inherited, including AJ Storr (Wisconsin)and Posh Alexander (Butler) who've been good this year. Then he criticizes his players for lacking lateral quickness. Well, that's a physical trait, not an effort or fundamental issue. These are the guys he recruited to replace the guys he encouraged to transfer.

"Pitino was critical of the Red Storm’s recruitment process,"

He's acting like an outside observer to his own program

Just like he denied knowing about all the stuff that happened at Louisville, no?

Watching the Maryland/Illini game. Anybody else see Willard catch the in play ball while standing on the court? Unbelievably Maryland got the ball even if it was headed out of bounds. 🤷‍♂️

That was...odd. No way even the speedy TSJ gets that (and I think that is what Willard told him), but that has to be some kind of violation?

I'm not your main guy....and I had totally forgotten about that rumor.  I still don't 100% get it.

Yep, those were the rumors. And it wasn't a certainty he'd get into Illinois either as the school generally does not allow 3rd year transfers as there's a minimum # of credit hours you need to graduate from Illinois. I think the AD may have had to get an exception there. But of course TSJ ended up staying 2 years anyway, so moot point.

    Holtmann has been fired

Holtmann, Miller and Underwood. Brad stands alone. 😁

I still find Holtmann's career path to Ohio St to be so strange. Was head coach and a rising star at Gardner-Webb. Leaves that job to become an assistant at Butler. OK, whatever. But then Brandon Miller unexpectedly quits and now he's head coach there, essentially following Brad Stevens. A couple good seasons at Butler and he gets a Big Ten job. Fortunate to have KBD there to get him off to a great start but kind of a steady slide downhill from there.

Not sure I’d always want this approach, but when you’ve had as many flagrants and techs as us it would be nice if at some point there was a repercussion.

You probably don't want this part where he's out in the middle of the court doing it when there's no time out called....

Mast got fouled by Shannon too with no call.

And Shannon was held by Tominaga on the inbound pass, no call.

How far apart are the following teams in the NET rankings?

    Team 1: 13-8, 1-4 road, 1-2 neutral, 2-7 quad 1, 2-1 quad 2. No quad 3 or 4 losses

    Team 2: 13-8, 1-4 road, 1-2 neutral, 0-7 quad 1, 3-1 quad 2. No quad 3 or 4 losses

Not enough info. Quadrants don't mean much here and there's also potentially huge variances in terms of net efficiencies.

But that doesnt explain when Edey goes on the road and gets the same coddling. or XJ being reviewed the other night that was not even close to being needed.

I think their are coaches that can work officials better than others.

I think there's still a caste type system, stars get more calls. Upperclassmen get more calls then freshmen. Not as bad as the NBA but it's there. And they still just mess up calls, too.

Courtney Green did the Purdue-Northwestern game last night

Unfortunately he's still doing a lot of Big Ten games.

A lot if it is due to the playing style of the top coaches in the league. I still blame this for why the big ten doesn't bget a lot of top recruits

Probably. Big Ten doesn't get as many athletes as SEC/B12 so lends itself to a more physical style.

AJ Storr is what I envision Mac being if he sticks around next year. At the under 16, Storr has 10 points already

Man, wish we could have kept that commitment. He's better than expected.

To me this has to be more the conference than the officials. I say this because these officials works more than one conference so maybe the conference wants things called a certain way

So how exactly does this work Big Ten Director of officiating calls all these guys and tells them to do B1G games...differently? And that never leaks out? And in the heat of a game they're going to remember where they are and what calls to make?

I think the explanation is simpler, the B1G has lead the country in attendance for many years, it's the crowds and home venues. Refs are human and having 10-15K people screaming at every call affects them.

Agree to disagree. I think they kept fouling us because of how poorly we were shooting at the line. If we shoot close to our normal percentage, my guess is you’d see the free throws more even. Hack-a-TKR was in full effect.

Against Illinois (a much more aggressive defensive team than Purdue), they only shot 13 free throws. They don’t shoot many free throws and they foul a lot (likely more tonight because of how poorly we were at the line).

Illinois fouls at about the same rate as Purdue
