This virus is different from other virus in the same way a German Shepard is different from a Poodle. They’re both dogs, they both share the same characteristics, they both have similar behavior traits, but they’re different types of dogs.

COVID19 and the flu are fundamentally the same because they are both viruses; they spread similarly and both exhibit the same symptoms. I don’t see that anybody is disputing this. COVID19 is different because it’s 2x more contagious than the flu and the symptoms are delayed. That fact that people unknowingly spread it is it’s most dangerous trait.

And we are experiencing higher mortality rates than the flu. It’s 10x more deadly.

It didn’t have to be this way. If our elected officials and federal agencies acted on this back in January when they were getting numerous warnings; the social distancing wouldn’t have to be on this scale. If they weren’t ‘blind’ to the virus and had a way to test/track it sooner, then they could have shut specific cities where clusters were present, rather than the whole country. They had 2 months to prepare, but didn’t act until it was too late. This is going to go down in history as one of the most epic failures. Nothing like a good conspiracy theory about ‘population control’ to distract us from this very fact.

We as a country were not ready for this. Regardless of who is or isn't president,  it wouldn't have mattered.  Our mentality of " it cant happen to us"  hurt us from the beginning,  and still continues today with the general public throwing parties.  The most important thing is how we recover and prepare for the next time

Thought this was an interesting take.

I get the idea behind the lockdown is to not overwhelm the healthcare system. But what if prolonging the time it takes to reach herd immunity we end up having more deaths overall.  And not just from covid, but also deaths related to the economic shutdown.

I guess it's all just a guessing game.

I think herd immunity is a pipe dream.  People are starting to be infected a second time around.  A vaccine,  medication, or cure is the only way we are going to resume back to any normalcy in my opinion

Congrats. Very cute.  Please get him some IU gear so he’s influenced the right direction.

Well Bob, they are currently living in Lafayette.  But relocating to Wabash in a few weeks...  I couldn't stand the thought of having my grandbabies grow up in PU country

I think their (South Korea) key has been lots of early testing and treatment. With the curve flattened, the fatality rate is not increasing due to an overburdened medical system.

I agree that this will not go away. Eventually everyone gets it. Hopefully most get the vaccine. It all about managing it now. Hopefully a few weeks is enough to get the tests out and find an effective treatment so we can begin a return to normal.

Very concerned about the media, cities and states that are floating 2 months or more of lock down. I see that doing considerable more damage, on many fronts, than the virus itself. I do think the elderly will have to social distance, at a minimum, until a vaccine is out.

Your first paragraph explained exactly why we will be in lockdown for months...  its only getting worse, not better.

We open it up, and the hospitals will be overwhelmed for a very long time. And many unnecessary deaths.

Personally I dont see the youngest kids ever seeing what our "normal" is ever again

Looks like the key is early testing and then the drug cocktail upon first symptoms-

Thought this article on an ER Drs perspective interesting- https://www.citizenfreepress.com/breaking/er-doctor-offers-lessons-on-treating-covid-19-patients-cheat-sheet-for-physicians-excellent-read/

Thats been my thought the whole time..  test and treat even if u arent showing severe symptoms?  Waiting till a person has one foot in grave seems dumb as shit to me.

I'm in no way saying it isn't serious, where you are. But is it necessary to lock down my county with 0 confirmed cases at the moment, the same way as New York?

Edit: keep safe, really worry about what's going on there.

I would rather have it locked down and kept at zero!

Just a general question and comment about this link.

    https://www.wthr.com/article/some-local-restaurants-may-never-recover-coronavirus-outbreak

I have several people I've known over the years in restaurant/bar industry as owners/managers/bartenders/servers,etc....here's my comment. I certainly feel empathy for all involved. I really do. I also know that the world didn't get turned upside down until roughly 12 days ago. These owners are all talking about having to close or they won't make it,etc.....now to my question. Are you telling me all of these nationwide restaurants can't see 2-3 weeks of little to no business without closing? How thin of a line are they walking in every day life if they can't handle a down turn for a month?

Hopefully my comment/question doesn't come across the wrong way but each day I wake up and it's help this restaurant, help this bartender, help this server.....and we should....but I also think we should help the barber or salon or the bowling alley guy or fill in the blank....why is it only the bar/restaurant industry?

Not that I don't agree with you, but the restaurant and bars will be deemed essential.  Barbers and salons would not be

...but make sure you head-shoot your squirrels...17's can take out a lot of meat otherwise!

Had a guy tell me that skinning squirrels was a lot tougher with 17 wounds...don't know as I've never done it, personally.

Thats a fact.  It pretty much takes their heads off.  A body shot, especially the front shoulder area is catastrophic
