  1. https://www.tactical-life.com/exclusives/9mm-vs-223/ Just for an example.
  2. Be interesting to see what kind of pork/pet projects were added to this bill. The problem with alot of these bills is amendments and pork get added to the point they get torpedoed.
  3. Rip. Great character actor. Really enjoyed his movies.
  4. There is also the Luby's shooting in Texas in 1991 and Fort Hood that used semi auto handguns only. That's just off the top of the head. One of the Lubys survivors spearheaded the effort for concealed carry because carrying back then wasn't legalized.
  5. The problem is nobody really cares until it's too late.
  6. I never said they were. You missed the point. It's better to try to come up with ways to mitigate loss because if you are waiting for anything to happen on a national level good luck. And if there is no means of escape then it won't matter what weapon is being used. That's my point. As it stands if a shooter enters the room and controls the entry way there is no means of escape.
  7. I was thinking maybe part of the reason death toll is high in alot of these situations is because there is no path for egress. So people huddle together and try to hide. From grade school through college almost every classroom I was in had one door for exit/entry. The focus always shifts to gun control, more recently hardening the target. Rarely mental health because that discussion is too difficult. What about room construction? Retro fit classrooms with adjoining doorways so there is a means for escape. Add steal plates to the classroom side of hallway facing doors.
  8. Why should I have something taken away from me that I use and own lawfully because some asshat broke the law? I think that's part of the disagreement. An entity I inherently distrust wants to continously take away but relinquish nothing.
  9. That ties into what I meant. I don't fear for myself or family. But I am prepared and want the best tools available.
  10. For the vast majority of gun owners fear is not a motivating factor for owning them. They are predominantly tools with specific purposes.
  11. Yes. And M1 garand if you have one. And mini 30 and....well I don't need to list them all.
  12. I'll trade my AR 15's for term limits for all public officials and a mandatory retirement age of 68 which is the maximum mandatory age for military general and flag officers. And congressional pay raises voted on by referendum. If we can't trust generals with billions of dollars of high tech gear and soldiers lives we shouldn't trust geriatrics with legislation that won't affect them. Seems like a fair trade. Can't take without giving something up.
  13. Well, after 20 years look who's in charge over there. I wasn't comparing governments though. Just point out the strongest military in the world was unable to defeat them.
  14. As for gun control, before the 94 ban semi auto rifles like the ar-15 were relatively unpopular. The ban started the proliferation and popularity of semi autos. There was a study done after the ban that showed it had no discernable affect on crime. I've seen automatic rifles mentioned several times. The domestic manufacture of automatics for the public was banned in 1986. They are NFA items and every automatic rifle in existence for the public is registered and on a list. It requires a class 3 license for purchase. Good luck finding one for less than $20,000.
  15. 20 years in Afghanistan and the taliban were ultimately successful. Russia spent 14 years trying. The tools the government would use are our neighbors, friends, family.
  16. But wouldn't that just give the government a monopoly on force? Governments have a long history of abusing their power and people.
  17. I'm not trying to be argumentative just informative. The Puckle gun was patented in 1718. It was a crew served revolving "machine gun". So the concepts did exist at the time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puckle_gun
  18. Im only one example but I had access to whatever I wanted starting about 12 years old and never once thought of harming anyone. But there are no doubt people out there should not have the access they do.
  19. No it is not a distinction without a difference. Have you owned or fired an AR-15 or any semi-automatic? They aren't all the same. Bump stocks are relatively new and gay. Most legitimate gun owners don't own those peices of shit. Bump stocks have nothing to do with this shooting.
  20. I'm not going to argue the intent of the 2nd amendment. It wasn't written just for hunting. But I will say, first getting an automatic weapon requires a class 3 license and $$$$ Nobody, is using an automatic weapon to carry out the atrocities. Less than 1% are done with rifles. It's all smoke and mirrors.
  21. I blame the defunding of mental health institutions. Believe it or not Reagan is at fault. Then he got shot by John Hinckley Jr. Dumb bastard. The weapon is a choice, some more effective than others. I could kill a dozen people with a pocket knife before the cops showed up if I wanted to. But I don't. Charles Whitman is a great example. He told people he was messed up in the head. No one listened or payed attention. That is the real problem. Some people need serious help, but nobody will listen or give them an ear. You want to know what the root of the problem is? Loneliness, but Noone will listen.
  22. It's a really deep problem. Mental health and breakdown of the traditional family unit.
  23. As an avid and unapologetic gun owner and 2A advocate I personally have no problem with UBC's. The problem is they sell UBC's as a gunshow loophole. It is not. Go try to buy a gun from a gun show and see what happens, an NICS background check. There is a very serious mental health crisis in this country. Nobody wants to admit it or address it. I've been I'm rehab for alcoholism since January, was in inpatient at a place called Wooded Glen in Henryville. I'm an alcoholic and no longer afraid to admit it. I have an opportunity to develope a new program with the things I learned.
  24. There are many reasons I'm sure but at the top of my list is the breakdown of the nuclear family unit. Boys need the strong hand of discipline from dad and a mother to nurture them and teach them empathy and compassion. The absence of one leads to what we see. Notice it's predominantly young males that cause this violence and in almost every case lack a strong mother AND father figure. I say father figure because I had a dad and step-dad who were both fine but my grandpa was my rock.
