  1. For some reason this made me think of football and the QB position. Leal would be the unsexy "game-manager" who loves to check it down to the flats. Gunn (more so than Banks) has the tools to rifle passes down field and into tight pockets, but doesn't yet have the accuracy or situational awareness. But you want players who think they can do that and develop them -- give them experience -- to the point they know they can do it.
  2. My eyeballs just rebounded off the floor reading that.
  3. Positives: I really love what Cupps brings to the team. Hard, tough-nosed kid (we all know this) who simply plays 'up'. He's already got the confidence, but once he adds experience, he's going to be a problem for other teams. Ware. He impressed me. I think he's only scratching the surface of what he can do, and he has the potential to do A LOT. He's just so skilled... once he starts stacking good days, they'll become great days and he's going to be a force. Reneau's footwork on offense. He's so crafty. Same thing with Trey. Both can maneuver around defenders nicely. Negatives: Rebounding. Outside of Ware, I didn't see a lot of guys attacking the boards early on. That has to change. Free throw shooting. Hell, at this point, is the program just jinxed in this area? 3pt D (and general awareness). KNOW WHO IS KILLING YOU FROM DEEP AND STOP THEM FROM KILLING YOU FROM DEEP. It ain't that hard of a concept to understand.
  4. He was more multi-dimensional, imho. I don't want to over-react, but Mgbako played with a ***little*** Bracey-ness, a la, offense only. Need to watch again to stand behind this, but definitely my first impressions.
  5. Iiiiiiiiiiittttttssssss GAMEDAY!! Whooo, it feels good to say that!
  6. One of the greatest things about Coach Knight -- and it's a common thread shared by countless former players, staff members and friends -- is that when they called, he answered. When they needed something, be it a job reference, a favor, or simply some advice, he gave it. His word mattered.
  7. If anybody were to champion this gesture, you would have to think CMW would be at the top of the list.
  8. An undeniable Icon. Know that your legacy will live on because your impact is simply immeasurable. Rest In Peace, Coach.
  9. Fair or not, no one is going to remember (or really care) about the coaching staff's hindsight and 'what if' pontifications. It's about stepping up in the moment, when the lights are brightest, and delivering.
  10. It really is amazing. On the road, favored to lose by 30+ and you're within striking distance of a win with 3 minutes to go.... don't go conservative! FORTUNE FAVORS THE BOLD.
  11. They've dropped some balls, yes, but our D has been aggressive. Certainly getting some confidence with the pressure.
  12. This is a game we're "supposed" to lose by 30+... so we might as well go Hagler v Hearns and just throw as many haymakers as possible -- see if we can land something wild!
  13. If Derik can actually secure any sort of deal with Dairy Queen, more power to him. I hope he takes all the money he can get and laughs all the way to the bank. That said, it's got to be annoying AF to keep hearing/seeing these tired puns your entire life. There's only so many ways this quip can be presented.
  14. I chose Top 25 Defense simply because it's a cheat answer that covers several other choices. An elevated defense likely supposes that the team has bought in and is willing to do what CMW wants. It assumes that he knows how to coach at an elite level. It presumes the effort and motor of Ware, the ability of Sparks, the growth of Banks, and the added experience of Walker... But most of all it's an effort metric. It's something the team can control night in and night out. We're not always going to have good shooting nights; sometimes it's hard to throw the ball in the ocean. But knowing how to play proper, effective defense means our players are locked in -- and that gives us a chance to be solid.
  15. Mackenzie Holmes with some major preseason love: https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/38734077/lsu-reese-iowa-clark-top-ap-preseason-women-all-america-team
  16. It stings to not get Fland, but your point is spot on. Seconds barely passed once McNeely committed and the fanbase was already chomping at the bit for Boogie and Queen. Sometimes its a good reminder to simply enjoy what you have -- especially when it's really good!
  17. A fun and nostalgic interview -- good job by Talia Goodman.
  18. Insert literally **any** musical artist or special guest, and you'll have some in the fanbase that love it and some that hate it. That's just the nature of individual preference... I do agree with @NotIThatLives that this team has a lot of unknowns at the moment, which could play a factor in the overall buzz-worthiness. The roster is very intriguing, but so much of it is based around potential; we simply don't have the receipts yet. The good news is that Woodson is building an identity within the program -- and the man certainly carries swagger. Once the good results start to accumulate, watch out.
