Well, it’s hard to judge Terre Haute as a shithole when West Lafayette is your point of reference. 😏 St. Louis brings a little more to the table.

What was hilarious to me is that as quick of a release he has, coupled with the fantastic footwork to get open, set and shoot, he turns around and runs as plodding and slow as Michael Durr down the court. I guess they say 'pace' is everything.

I think it's worth noting that the percentage and attempts have multiple positive byproducts; for a player like Gohlke (as we saw last night) 38% is the lower end... conceivably there are nights where the player goes 7-10 or 8-13... he went 50% on 20 attempts! Not only is that a nice heat check, it gets the crowd going, it can equalize the other team, and most importantly, just the mere threat of taking the shot means there is extra energy used by the defense to try and stop it. The floor is stretched, lanes open, all good things. I hope other shooters watched Gohlke last night. I absolutely loved his pre-ball movement. He rarely just stood around. Moved a lot like Reggie back in the day. When you're hitting shots, you are absolutely draining your opponent physically and mentally.

To think any player is a finished product after their sophomore season is silly. I see no reason why he can't improve; he seemingly wants to do so, and I look forward to seeing in what ways this is accomplished.

Agree. Change nothing about Coach May except where he was born, and would people still be clamoring for him in the same way? Does a Cleveland-born May, or a Madison-born May bring the same heat? For all the lack of college experience that Woodson has -- and therefore the strong demands that a new coach will bring loads of high level experience with them -- at this point in time Coach May doesn't fit the bill.

A lot of people knock Sparks for his limitations as a basketball player at the P5 level, but he always appeared to give effort and I didn't notice any negative attitude. I completely applaud him for putting himself out there and attempting the jump up from BSU. Should he return there, or somewhere similar, I hope he does so with his head held high. He can thrive in the right environment and I'll be rooting for him.

Perhaps that was the problem. CMW was so focused on advanced scouting of the portal that there wasn't any time to teach fundamentals like dribbling, blocking out, protecting the basketball, defensive rotations, ball movement, transition defense, free throw shooting, passing out of double and triple teams, taking short threes instead of long twos, moving feet and not reaching or committing silly fouls 60' from the basket**takes a breath**, understanding screens and how to get around them, communicating, properly executing entry passes...

Damn. The wheels are falling off this squad.

The only rationale I can think of is it's possible the coaches who voted him 3rd team are the ones whose teams Ware had foul trouble against, thus limiting his effectiveness and production. 2nd team voters probably got their butts kicked by him. When he's on, short of Edey, he's one of the most dominant big men in the conference.

Guys! What are we doing here??? I came here to read some more beating of the dead Fire Mike Woodson horse and all I'm seeing is an argument about Leal & Gallo's comments. What gives?

Depending on how well Galloway is playing, Mbako is roughly our third option behind Ware and Reneau. He's featured as much as he can be, given that when those two are on, they can *almost* score at will. While I personally would like to see more balance across our roster, Mullins could definitely find some good minutes on a second unit and build up from there.

Hey, I'm just using this post and Mullins as an example for understanding recruiting at large. It's not an indictment on you at all, just easier to ask questions based on the statements you've written. (I'll obviously be using CMW in this, but it could apply to any coach and staff in the country)... If Mullins likes the school, but is hesitant about playing for Woodson, who is the "we" that still needs to do "proper work"? Is it the collective assistants or one in particular? Support staff? Woodson himself?? What is the actual "work" that needs to be done and presented to Mullins that satisfies and clears away any of his hesitation? And are you saying Mullins is reluctant to come to IU because of CMW or because of the negativity surrounding CMW's tenure and program?

He fell into the absolute best situation to utilize his skillset. He is thriving in the role that he's been given, while surely gaining confidence by the minute. It appears that he is generally and genuinely liked by his teammates and coaches. He also seems hungry for more. All of that to say, he is on a trajectory for a very long and productive career. Happy for him.

Let me just preface by saying that I'm a huge fan of your passion for IU. I'm glad that you are a fan, and love the steadfast nature of your position in all of this. That said, I disagree with some of it. I would argue that most (rational) people agree that Mike Woodson is a good man with good intentions. I don't believe him to be a cheat, slimeball, [insert negative descriptor here], etc. type of person. I also don't think he should be placed on a floating block of ice and sent off into the Arctic... What's difficult for me is to back someone simply because of the title they have. Do I want him to succeed? Of course. However, his job isn't just to roll the ball out there on the court and let the guys who want it go get it. His role as a Head Coach of Indiana University is to A) field the best team possible while B) teaching, inspiring and motivating the players to C) be better as a collective unit than they are as individuals, so they can D) compete for the very best prize in college basketball on a consistent (yearly) basis.

Guys and gals, let's walk and chew gum at the same time here. It's ok to have cognitive dissonance that supports Woodson's development of some players while also acknowledging his lack of development with others. This is likely true with many coaches. The issue with Coach currently, is that his work isn't simply gradable on individual development. This is a team game. Now, to keep this related to the topic, it appears LM's thoughts on his development were also (somewhat) tied to CMW's ability to translate that across the team and have a cohesive product on the floor. Think about what and who McNeeley has been playing with at Montverde... he's surrounded by many high-level players, running a fluid and dynamic offense. His coach isn't just dumping the ball down to Queen, or having Flagg do everything. One could argue that the spread out and modern approach their coach utilizes is helping their success as much as the individual parts.

Totally fair. It shouldn’t be taken to the character assassination level, but his effort and behavior can be questioned. I personally don’t think he’s a bad guy. I wish the results were better, the momentum stronger, and the optimism surrounding the program with him at the helm, much, much brighter.

No offense Scott, but this is a tired, lazy and inaccurate response. You're making an inference to "coddling" and "soft" that isn't verified. Sports (and specifically team ones) are very much relationship-based. It's treating people with decency and respect and checking in on the people you want to associate with. Same thing with business... why do you think there are so many social visits? Golf outings, business lunches/dinners, etc. To disregard this (and specifically try to lay blame at the players) is missing the target.
