  1. I think if you are an old school 4 or 5...with no game outside 15 feet Purdue is a great fit. They play throw back basketball (nothing wrong with that in college you can win a lot of games dominating the paint). They shoot 3 excellent and they will feed the bigs. Honestly it’s pretty efficient way to play. Shoot 3s for jumpers and twos mainly around the basket...few mid range 2s. That said their bigs don’t translate to the nba because they don’t expand their range out to the 3 pt line and for the most part have been awful at guarding the pick n roll (mainly because of their plodding feet or low motor). I hated that Bryant was out there on the perimeter and shooting 3s but in the end he kept expanding his game and Crean helped him. If I’m a big that wants to mostly play back to the basket...I’d like Purdue. If I want to learn to face up or learn to play out on the floor we’ve seen several other B1G programs do better with that.
  2. Out of those teams no doubt we should be able to have the best pitch. Much more to offer. Should blow him away on the 30th.
  3. Relinking to @The Daily Hoosier page that has some of the few videos of the kid. Uber athletic. Can see why Crean is after him. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-hoosiers-offer-class-of-2020-jordan-geronimo/ worth a look see.
  4. That’s awesome. With the competition for Cross really heating up its good to know Archie is still focused on getting another forward. Still think he is a bit raw but so was OG and he proved to be a very nice piece.
  5. Yeah not “THE” Damon Bailey...see @FW_Hoosier
  6. Guess I didn’t understand your shaky team offense comment. Guess I misunderstood.
  7. You thought our offense was good? Our defense was there pretty much all year. When teams started packing it in it pretty much dried up Romeo’s driving lanes. I agree it was spot on assessment.
  8. Kinda has that Zeller game. Just not quite the size and strength yet though. I’m still a big Kaufman fan to play our 4.
  9. I didn’t watch anything live. Just the replays on ishaa website all star game and stuff. I feel like he does a really good job of driving and keeping his head up and looking for his teammates not just looking to score. He does look comfortable with the ball in his hands but wouldn’t say he is a natural ball handler or point guard. As for his ability to defend and score..he is physically gifted and a much better scorer than shooter but has good form. Big thing I saw is a very willing defender that will take on the challenge of guarding the opponents best player. At best he may end up a combo guard but I struggle to see him running the show permanently. Glad to have him and think he could compliment our other 2020 shooting guard recruits very well in a 3 guard lineup!
  10. Thanks for the info on Franklin. I would say that would be a big stretch for him but I trust what you are saying in that he can buy a few minutes but I would be lying if I thought he could handle a college level full court trapping press or quickly get us in and out of plays but I will happily be wrong. Given that Archie has offered a long list of point guards I think he is also still looking for a true backup. It’s ok that Franklin has ability to help bring it up and facilitate...but I don’t think that will be his primary position. As far as Lander...I think 2 years max...whether he should go pro after that I think we’ve seen plenty of kids go pro regardless if they need a year or two more. The elite athleticism is there...I think his vision and ball handling are solid...I think he has that something special that will translate...the way he breaks down defenses and delivers the ball right into the shooters pocket ready to shoot...kinda like Ja Morant does...I like him and I think NBA scouts will too.
  11. Agree about Morton and how he should fit Purdue. I will say this. I think we need a backup point in the 2020 class and that is why Archie is recruiting point guards so hard. First off we will have no back up true point guard next year on the roster and Rob can’t play 40 mins. Second if we do get Lander...a great chance he is OAD or at best a two year guard. We will need another point to back him up and then take over. 2020 point guard should be on our radar....but one that plays a complementary role not necessarily a top 50 kid.
  12. I think the old saying of getting old and staying old holds true. A 100 ranked kid as a freshman is likely only to have spot minutes and occasionally make an impact but you put that same kid in year 3 and 4 and they can hold their own against any young top 50 freshman because that experience makes up for any lack of athleticism or elite skill set that top young kid has. Once these kids have had a chance to learn and improve they have every opportunity to either take another leap in progress or fade to obscurity. I will say this...a lot of these top 50 kids with all the athleticism etc don’t know how to play without the ball and don’t work as hard as they need to living off their superior athleticism. So you see kids close the gap on them if they don’t also work to improve all their game.
  13. People act like the traditional power forward is dead...but a guy that can rebound and put the ball in the basket at the rate he did...u can always win with that. We got to stop trying to force every kid to be a stretch 4 or shoot the 3. You dominate in the paint you will open plenty of shots up on the perimeter for your shooters.
  14. I’m sure Archie sees more than I do but this kid looks very raw to me....kind of a smaller Justin Smith. Not seeing it.
  15. I thought I’d never see the guy again. If I was a 4 or 5 who played in the post...I’d want him coaching me.
  16. It’s all good. Like I said it’s been a long time since I’ve encountered some good journalism that attempts to report truth without having to put a spin on something. Even in sports now there has to be an agenda. I’m not trying to lump them all in the same basket but I’ve found meaning and life lessons from many of my coaches that have served me well...and I’ve heard many of Knights players say the same. I don’t think the comment he made was to be taken seriously. It was more a joke and a swipe at them because they sit back writing their opinions and looking to make fame and money off of attacking someone and often taking an angle that will sell instead of just reporting or telling the whole story. So yeah...it wasn’t serious...but it was funny because these same people that report on things when often times they have never even played the game or criticizing him or trying to promote themselves off of his fame. I realize there is important work being reported on...but what Knight was referring to and what we see in the media nowadays is basically like paparazzi with a pen. I thought it was funny at the time and I’m reminded of it all the time in this current day and age.
  17. I think the bigger challenge is who plays the most games next year? Paul George is a gamer...doesn’t miss much but he also is coming off two shoulder injuries. The other 3 played less than 60 games last year. I don’t think either LA team gets a number 1 seed. The stars take too many games off.
  18. I hope so too. That team can go from good to great with him. Also they should have some nice tradable pieces to get a second star if they choose. I’ve just never seen this kind of injury before to know how anyone recovers from it. It has to effect his explosiveness and his aggressiveness this year but perhaps next he can get back to 100%. I too don’t care what school guys went to...Robbie Hummel is still one of my favorite people on tv so I feel you!
  19. How do the Celtics guard Embid in the post? Baynes/Horford will be missed terribly on defense and the boards...not to mention Morris too. They lost a lot of toughness....but perhaps Celtics go small ball and just try to run people into the ground with Kemba, Tatum, Gordon, Brown, and Kanter. They should have some nice bench help with a spark plug like Edwards off the bench to pair with a defender like Smart and Romeo and Williams on the wings. I just think they didn’t address their bigs sufficient enough but who knows...they still have trade chips to flip for a better big.
  20. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Allen start...why do you think he will sit? Jordan is there to guard Embid and other traditional centers like Drummond who Allen has struggled against. Jordan is older...they both avg about 26 minutes a game last year and old bigs will need their minutes monitored..Jordan won’t effect Allen as much as you think. I agree Jordan wasn’t necessary but sometimes you look at who you have to go through in the playoffs and Embid at Philly will be a tough out who aren’t going anywhere. Nothing wrong with some more veteran leadership. Could they have used that for someone else...sure but the team has wing players...a big 4/5 was always going to be the need.
  21. I think this is saying week 1 these are the rankings. As the season progresses who knows as there will be injuries, trades, and trying to form chemistry. For example,..PG is coming off two shoulder surgeries and Kawhi plays about 60 games a year. Clippers will NOT be a #1 seed. They will rest both those guys a lot. HCA isn’t that big a deal. You do realize Jarrett Allen is still on the team? He and Jordan will split time like most bigs do except now Allen will get to feast on backups. That said I do agree they will struggle with Kyrie leading that team.
  22. Sounds like the old Knight. Bird hunting and fishing....I’m sure there will be no shortage of offers pouring in all over the state to hook him up.
  23. Since I’ve moved away I haven’t been to Assembly Hall since the renovations...is there like a hall of champions or something where the championship trophies and busts or plaques are? Maybe name it the Bob Knight hall of champions...has to be something? I mean there is no way they will rename the court after him even though other schools have made changes before. Whatever the case coach should have a bigger presence hopefully.
  24. OKC is trying to pull a Celtics style rebuild. Notice these picks aren’t for next year etc...they are mostly 4-5 years out when the Clippers and Rockets would likely have lost their stars and drop in talent. They still plan to flip Paul at some point it appears. I still think the team desperate to make a move or risk losing its star is Minnesota. KAT won’t wait for too long missing the post season until he like Davis forces his way to a big market. I think trade Wiggins plus expiring in Teague plus more draft picks with Culver their future should pretty well work and that would allow Minnesota to upgrade at the point and have KAT, Covington, and Paul a good nucleus. I also think Paul would fit well with the Nuggets but his contract would kill their cap but think his veteran leadership would work well with their young stars. Trade Harris and their trade exceptions that equal 18 million and that would probably do it plus a pick or two. Anyways OKC is setting up to have a ton of lottery picks in about 5 years and could do a massive rebuild or trade those for quality players....question is can Presti keep his job long enough to use the picks.
