But imagine if someone good enough to put Malik on the bench was on the team!

That's kind of a tall order...

He'd have to average 15 ppg on 56% shooting overall and 33% from 3...and be named Honorable Mention All Conference at a P6 school...

I'll agree Malik's got a lot of room for improvement, particularly in rebounding and defense, but he has pretty good handles, and is underrated as a passer in my book. He worked to get his body good last year...this year I'd imagine he'll be on the same regimen Woody had Trayce on his last 2 years...

Raisins are the perfect thing to discourage trick-o-treaters on Halloween.  Do it for a couple of years, let word spread around, and the little ghosts and goblins will gladly skip your house in the future.

Back in the day, raisins, candy corn, or anything homemade would get your windows soaped with paraffin 😁

My Illini friend has IU and IL as the top 2 teams in the conference

I don't think Illinois is even top 7 with the current roster...

I browse X occasionally, and both Illinois and Purdue fans use the line "yeah, but they have Woodson as their coach" when assessing the talent we've accumulated...

I remind them that Woody is 3-2 against Illinois and 3-3 against Purdue in his college coaching career...

  4. You know, if I was an Illini fan, I think I'd be on the verge of panicking...

2 holdovers from last year (Ty Rodgers and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn) and this bunch incoming...

    Illinois Fighting Illini
    Incoming transfers

Carey Booth: A 6-foot-10, 203-pound forward from Notre Dame, Booth averaged 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2023-24.

Kylan Boswell: A 6-foot-2, 200-pound guard from Arizona, Boswell averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists per game as a sophomore in 2023-24.

Tre White: A 6-foot-7 guard, White averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Louisville in 2023-24.

Jake Davis: A 6-foot-6 wing, Davis averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman at Mercer in 2023-24.

Along with  freshmen 4 star Morez Johnson, and 3 star Jason Jakstys

They have 5 more spots, and one of their main targets, Northern Illinois F Xavier Amos just committed to Wisconsin...

I really like Myles’ game. He can really get in the lane and create.  He is really savvy, knows how to change speeds to get defender on his hip.

Carlyle seems to bring a different element in that he’s more electric but maybe not as savvy.  But let Rice control the ball and put Carlyle off it and they can potentially be lethal together.

People would say we had talent last year.  Yet as a group we had subpar guards and that’s basically a proven fact.  You can’t have guards like that and then claim you’ve got talent.

Factor in the overall inexperience, and it's easy to see why we struggled...

NCAA already lost a suit restricting second transfers

As I read it, the rule is under an injunction...For the time being, underclassmen can transfer twice without penalty...

"The NCAA also said athletes would "continue to be subject to all other existing eligibility legislation and to any eligibility standards required for competition that may be developed or modified for the 2024-25 academic year."

The lawsuit is scheduled for a jury trial in June 2025 in Wheeling, West Virginia."

As long as we are striving for the blend and not falling into the portal or bust trap, I can live with the results. That’s why the guy I am the most excited about coming in is the true freshman who’s name escapes me now. We need the Wares and Rices, that’s modern college basketball. I still believe we need the Sisleys and Mullins too, the 3-4 year guys you build culture and stability with.

Since they really can't control NIL, I look for them to try to exert more control over the portal and transfers...I think they'll get plenty of support from coaches and administrators on that...

    Until the first lawsuit :)
