  1. This is where you and I differ. The Delphi case aside, I see no reason to keep this piece of garbage alive. He is evil, and evil needs to be extinguished.
  2. I thought about that, but I really do not think its fair to judge people in the past on today's standards. Fortunately we have evolved. I think it's also important to note that McCracken was the first, and for some time, the only coach in the Big 10 to have an African American player. even if it was just 1.
  3. Fast forward to the 11:55 mark if you are only interested in the IU stuff. I met Bob once in Peoria Illinois. He was an amazing man, and actually quite kind. SportsCentury: Bob Gibson - YouTube
  4. I just heard Dampier tell this story the other day on the radio, and that's what got me thinking about this thread. Dampier went to Southport HS in Indy. His family were all big IU fans. His uncle had some connections to Branch McCracken and took Louie on a visit. There was some discussion in the office and Louie was asked to step outside. When the adults came out of the office, his uncle was beaming and McCracken looked defeated. Branch told Louie that if he really wanted to go to IU there would be a scholarship for him. Louie said he left feeling that the offer was his uncle's doing, and that McCracken didn't really want him there. He said he wanted to play somewhere he was wanted, so he went to UK.
  5. Gibson wanted to play basketball for IU (He did play for the Globetrotters), at some point Branch McCracken told Gibson he already had one African American (not in those words) and wasn't looking for another one.
  6. Kinda quiet around here, so I thought I'd try to stir up some discussions. How about a list of players who wanted to come and play at IU but didn't for whatever reason. I'll start with : Oscar Robertson Bob Gibson Louie Dampier Who else?
  7. That dude looks like he came right out of Central Casting for "Hoosiers"' Mr. Kopp, "Welcome to Indiana Basketball!"
  8. Dude, everybody know it was a "Snickers" and Nutter Butters. Geeze, it's like playing the telephone game around here!!
  9. He did. One of your ex wives answered, thought it was your divorce lawyer and hung up.
  10. Out of curiosity, why does academic integrity matter to you?
  11. I will tell you that I was friends with Calbert during his Junior year. The guy didn't have a car at all, he rode to class with me. He had a milk crate for a TV stand. Is there a reason the College Player of the Year to be was left out of all of the illicit benefits? Was there anyone on the team more deserving than him? I heard a lot of stories similar to the one you told, but they were never first hand, and my own first hand experiences were quite different. But then again, I'm told I'm naive (I guess I can add dumb as crap to the list as well), so there is that.
  12. So far we have established that the segment of our fan base that wants to do things above board and with integrity is "Perfect", "Holier than thou" and "Naive". So what words are we allowed to use for the segment of our fanbase who want to outright cheat to win? Can I start the list, or will that rile up the moderators?
  13. Saying someone else did the same thing doesn't really answer the question. I see where not officially hiring a coach so he can in person recruit is a gray area, This seems more extreme to me.
  14. Do you really think what Yasir attempted to do was "gray"?
  15. I agree with everything you said, and this last sentence is why this "alleged" hire makes zero sense to me. There are hundreds of people who could fill that 3rd chair who don't bring the cloud of suspicion. Keep Mike Roberts, hell, hire IU Scott, I think he's looking for work, and neither of them brings the cloud of suspicion. And IF (Big If) Yasir ever decided to go rogue, we wouldn't know until it is too late. He will have access to players worth paying for here. IU has danced with this devil previously and we still haven't recovered. I just don't see the reason to take another bite of this apple.
  16. Seriuosly! We should just hire Dave Bliss as the 3rd assistant, Knight ties, IU ties, head coaching experience, he checks all the boxes.
  17. Just because nobody picked up the ugly prostitute, doesn't mean she wasn't out on the corner trying.
  18. When did wanting things done the right way with minimal risk become the wrong attitude? asking for a friend.
  19. Is this really necessary? I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and empathy for the challenges you've faced with you son. Nowhere did I say I was perfect, and I certainly do not believe that to be the case. I am not against second chances, but I think we have to make sure it is the right situation. The IU basketball program has not recovered from the last second chance we gave. While Yasir might be deserving of a second chance, I'm not sure I think IU is in a position to give it. Just my thoughts, nothing else.
  20. And, I hear 5Fouls is a terrific marriage counselor....
  21. But, you, of all people, are OK with the ethical lapses?
  22. How is this trolling? I'm open to new ideas or suggestions. I don't like the potential hire, for a number of reasons, but I'm open to opposing views. I think he has questionable ethics and is being sold as a shot doctor who didn't shoot well, or coach it well. You say otherwise. Why so?
  23. I was never a fan of the Ellenberger hire, but Coach Knight had more cache than Mike Woodson. I simply don't see the need for the risk at this point. As you said a 3rd assistant won't bring a tremendous amount to the table, but he can certainly take a program down. #Notworththerisk.
