How so? For the record, I think 2 missed calls per official is supposed to be good - taking into account the speed of the game in real time and all the viewing angles a human can not possibly cover.

Way back when, I was a ref for basketball. We were taught that since there are 3 officials, you have specific sq ft areas that you are responsible for.

How many times have you seen a call made from a ref that is the furthest away from the play? More often than you think. Not his responsibility to make the call. He's calling a play outside of his zone of coverage. But refs these days watch the play on the ball more than fans do, instead of watching what's going on in their area of responsibility.

yeah, i mean no problem, and i could definitely be remembering wrong, but wouldn't all of those other than last game be facetious?  has he had any games that people would seriously vote for him other than the last one?  i mean, i'm not blaming you, but just saying something doesn't quite add up, right?

Guess it depends on your point of view. Leal ALWAYS gives 100% in a game, plus leadership. Even in a loss he'll get votes because of his effort (at least IMO). You have a starter, or 3, that play horrible in a game and Leal comes in and produces while he's in there, even for a couple of minutes, and guys will vote for him. He won't garner the most votes, but he'll get some which gives him 3rd place.

I was a little surprised to see where he landed overall, but personally couldn't be happier for the young man. I just wish he'd come back next year, but that's a pipe dream.

smart.  then that is more interesting.  i'm assuming he won at least once in a loss that he barely played in then?  how would he be 1 point behind Galloway otherwise?

He's one point behind Gallo on the weighted scale. I track top 3 players receiving votes. Leal has gotten more 3rd place finishes than Gallo. Gallo didn't place in the top 3 for many games. With Leal's win for Iowa, that was 3 points for 1st. 2nd place gets 2 points, 3rd place gets 1. So if you're MVP for a game, you make up a bunch of ground on those guys that don't place in the top 3.

Leal has rec'd points in 4 games he's played in, and Gallo only 3.

Hope that helps explain it a little.

this is because people thought it was funny to vote for Leal when he didn't even get in the game.  not much validity to the voting when Ware isn't overall 1st right?

I audit playing time of the roster. Any player that did not play in the game, the votes are not counted in the tally. So any vote that Leal got when he didn't actually play that game the votes were dismissed and not logged. Which makes his appearance in the top 4-5 players getting votes, even more impressive (to me at least).

  5. Hey IUFLA...how about re-naming this topic "PUke thread"?

While I understand that a couple PU guys come here, and one is civil, the other not so much, but they have completely hijacked this thread. Not saying they shouldn't post here, but this is supposed to be a B10 thread, not a PU thread.

Can't remember how long it's been since I've seen comments about other B10 schools, or at least more than 1-2.

And maybe just for kicks, we should start a  "Ref's suck" thread to illustrate all of the horrible calls thru-out the B10.

In any case, I guess I'll just ignore this particular thread from now on, because I don't really give a rats ass about PU basketball, and all the debate about Lurch.

  6. The January voting results for Jan (all B10 games) also includes the 2 Dec B10 games with MD & MI.

Under the "weighted" voting results, Malik & MM are tied for 1st. 1 point behind is Ware, and Gallo is next, several points back. But it might surprise some of you that even with Leal's limited playing time for the month, he's only 1 point behind Gallo.

Under the "winner takes all" (no weighting), Reneau & Ware are tied with 2 games each. 6 other players each have 1 winning vote.

And for those that want the "total votes received" category, Ware is 1st, Malik a distant 2nd, and Leal a very close 3rd (4 votes down).

I'll do another update for the B10 thru Feb at the end of Feb. Post any questions you have and I'll try to answer them.

well, i was definitely counting this one as a win and still fell like it will be.  i also view it as a must win.  of course now i'm nervous that they won at Rutgers, they press aggressively, and we are very likely shorthanded X, MR, or both.  great.  now i'm worried again.

I think we run them ragged. Attack the press to score, not to break the press, and run the pi$$ out of them.

PSU lines to press and we have to handle the press and not turn the ball over

I thought we looked very tentative against Iowa's press. We didn't "attack" it and try to score on it. Can't remember the game last year, but somebody tried to press us, we attacked it and scored immediately, and never saw the press again the rest of the game.

If we are tentative against PSU's press, I'm afraid we'll get into that "quicksand" mode where one thing goes wrong, then another, then another....we'll likely have more turnovers than we should.

MVP doesn’t necessarily mean best player on the floor that night. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It does for me, when we're voting for each individual game. We're tracking the voting for each individual game.

The player who has the best game (offense, defense, hustle, making others play better, etc) is in the eye of the voter. We all have our opinions on who that is for each indv game. No one's opinion is better than than another persons. That's why we have a voting scoreboard.

  11. Grew up on a small hobby farm in NW Indiana. Dad had a Ford 8n. Now that I'm retired, I have 5 acres (of yard) that I mow, and a ½ mile driveway to maintain. Plus I built our house, and did a boat-load of excavation, and finish work with the 2016 tractor (38 hp) that I bought to build and maintain the property (originally 10 acres of yard, but I sold 5 a year or so ago).

I've got several PTO implements and just hooking them up, I always get banged up, and start bleeding. Sometimes I look like "death by a 1000 cuts". Most of the time I don't even notice it until I go in the house and the wife says "you're bleeding!!"

Any of you fellers work with metal roofing? I do and all I have to do is look at it,20' away and I'm already bleeding. This look like an awesome gadget !!

I have worked with it about a year ago, but not on a regular basis. Never got cut with it, but if I come within 10' of one of my tractor PTO implements I start bleeding before I even try to hook it up. Thin skinned I guess.

But the nippers are great tools for the metal. Especially if you're doing flashing and such. Metal roofing is usually cut to size. (if you engineer the roof correctly...)
