  1. What a great opportunity for LOTS of new tools !! Planer, joiner, clamps galore, sanders, routers & bits, and the list goes on and on. I'm envious !
  2. Get one of these to fasten your corner joints. They're great. Can also make the joints for the door rails & styles. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Kreg-Jig-Pocket-Hole-System-R3/202269070?mtc=Shopping-VF-F_D25T-B-D25T-25_7_POWER_TOOL_ACCESSORIES-Multi-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-PowerToolAccessories_HolidayPlusUp&cm_mmc=Shopping-VF-F_D25T-B-D25T-25_7_POWER_TOOL_ACCESSORIES-Multi-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-PowerToolAccessories_HolidayPlusUp-71700000076256048-58700006515108563-92700058905268102&gclsrc=ds&gclsrc=ds
  3. Come Billingsley...you can do that !! It's a box with some trim on it. Not tough at all. Drawers will take some careful measurements, but some MDF, couple of pipe clamps, chop saw, and impact drill will cover 90% of what you need. Might be a good excuse for some new tools !!
  4. When I was a kid (like 8) I remember sitting on the basement steps, and watching my Dad try to fix Mom's wringer washing machine (yeah...I'm old). Anyway, I asked Dad why didn't he just call the repairman. To which my Dad answered: "Son...I might as well try to fix it myself. Cause the repair guy isn't gonna charge me anymore if I "F-it up" than he would in the first place". Now I'm not one of the guys on this thread that are real craftsman. But not only have I saved $1000's of dollars on repair bills by fixing it myself, I also have acted as general contractor (and a bunch of sub-contractors as well) on the last 3 houses I've built. The trick is to be organized, patient, and know what you can, and cannot do, based on your comfort level. And for the record...I would have called the HVAC guys too!! I don't do HVAC. I'll do electrical and plumbing, and a bunch of other stuff, but not HVAC.
  5. That's GREAT !! Neither of ours made it past 6 and 8. Even after the surgeries. Hope he keeps going strong for another 5 years !
  6. We rescued the last 2 Goldens from a Golden Rescue outfit in Plainfield. They were VERY protective of the dogs up for adoption. (which is great IMO) Came out did a house visit, had a 5 page questionaire we had to answer in order to "qualify" to get one. Once they place a Golden, they want to make sure it's to a great home, and not coming back. I volunteer for the local animal shelter here in SC, and they do a pretty good job in qualifying people before they let someone adopt. Not as good as the Golden outfit, but still pretty good, considering it's gov't run. And almost all of the dogs here in the shelter are Heinz 10-57's. Most of the "pure breed" rescue operations have agreements with all the shelters around them, that if the shelter takes in a dog of a particular breed, they will automatically take it and adopt it out under their own standards.
  7. FWIW, Golden Retrievers (esp in the midwest) have an 80% chance of getting some kind of cancer by the time they're 7-8. We had goldens for 30 years. The last 2 came from Indy. Both got cancer way too early. Oncologist from PU said they can't figure out why, but goldens contract cancer 10x more than any other breed. He also told us, a Heinz 57 is usually healthier than pure breds.
  8. I read somewhere once that 80% of an individual stock's performance is based on how the stock's sector performed. I'm sure it's not always true, but I've found it helpful to keep that in mind. One of the guys I used to listen to (retired now) suggested that gov't policy has a direct effect on the market. So if there is a change in gov't policy, the market will react accordingly over the long term.
  9. No they're not ! I think I paid $17 for 250, and had to buy another 250 to finish it !
  10. Can't express my heart felt sorrow for Hoosier, Ayden, and your family. Dogs are literally our best friends, and in your family and very special best friend for Ayden. Prayers...
  11. Retired down here in SC about 11 years ago. The whole state is nice. Charleston gets flooded easy like N'Orleans, but there are a lot of nice places to visit and live. We happen to live in Aiken (west side of the state, not far from Augusta, GA)
  12. Finally got it done. Had two full days of 30-40 mph winds, so I didn't want to sail away putting up 16' long metal sheets. Had a nasty storm last night. Rain and 40+mph winds, and low and behold the thing is still standing this morning ! While it's not a "garage-mahal" like Rico's, and all enclosed, it does what I want it to. 24' wide, 16' deep, 11'6" tall. Boy that metal roof takes a LOT of screws!
  13. Here's our current mutt. Rescued him about 4 years ago. Definitely "Mama's" dog. "I've told you!!! Don't bother me when I'm sleeping !"
  14. Makes me glad I'm a Bah-humbug kind of guy. Actually, we dog sit/house sit friends pets during the Holidays. Don't have kids of our own, so we try to free up others to enjoy their families.
  15. OMG !! I can't believe it....TV Ted is reffing the TX v UNC game. Thought he got fired by all the conferences
  16. I believe they did. And they came up with this "abnormal" solution to get some games in. Although not 100% sure on that.
  17. From what I heard, it's a triple header. Best 2 out of 3.
  18. Michigan down to Oakland at halftime. If Michigan is ranked #25 (it is according to TV) then we should be top 10. They look like $hit. Livers got in Juwan Howard's face in a verbal altercation. Some "trouble in River City" maybe.
  19. I see Ketchup boy isn't starting for pUKe. A transfer starts, but not Brooks. Lovin' it !
  20. If I remember correctly, the pollsters have OSU ranked above us, by a lot. I just don't see it.
  21. From a coaching perspective, I like how Izzo holds them accountable for the full 40 minutes.
  22. Man, MSU is really taking it to ND. MSU defensively looks in mid-season form already. Moves the ball pretty well too.
  23. Little more progress today. Got all the rafters cut and installed. Yipee !
  24. No...I had already thought about doing a lean-to a year or so ago. Just never got around to it. Had a hip replacement a couple of months ago, so I'm now getting back into the swing of things on a normal basis. Plus, I'm older than dirt, so it takes me a while to do most anything you young pups can do. And I don't have any helpers at all. And then you have our family heritage...We take a 10 minute job and turn it into 4 days! Finished up the beam today between the posts (it was only ½ assembled), caulked the ledger board, laid out the rafter placement and then started to figure roof pitch and cut outs for the rafters. Never did rafters before. Kind of a neat process once you get the hang of it. The tough part comes next. Cutting all the rafters, and then getting the rafters up to the beam at 9'-6" on one side, and 11'-5" on the ledger board on the other side without killing myself !!
