  1. Have been on a bit of a classic Case (for me that means 1970s- mid 1980s) kick recently. Just picked up this 1976 Stockman - love the “For Flesh Only” etching on the spey blade.

Second pick shows most of the Case from the above era that I’ve picked up over the last couple of months. Lots of good condition knives out there, but the prices are definitely climbing.

In the second pic, bottom row on the right side are two Case knives that were a collaboration with Tony Bose. I’m guessing people on an IU message board might know of Tony. LEGENDARY knife maker from Indiana (Wilfred), who breathed new life into traditional pocket knife patterns.

His custom knives started at a couple thousand up to like $12K. What’s cool is that he started working with Case each year on a collaboration knife. He would give them two knives he built. One put together and one in pieces. Case gave those two knives to a small team of their best knife makers and they used those two examples to build a limited set of Case/Bose collab knives - usually in runs of about 100-300 per year.

You can basically get a Tony Bose *this* close to custom for MUCH cheaper. These run about $400-500 if you can find them at list price, or up to $800 on Ebay. The finish and tolerances on these knives are insane. They just feel like quality in your hands.

The new stuff from Panini have exploded and have saved the hobby. The junk wax era from our youth hasn't made a come back yet, but some are predicting it will. 70's and earlier have started coming back. Early Basketball if you have any in the basement would be worth finding.

Qb's are your hot cards for sure. New Basketball. I'm lost with Baseball, still learning the new stuff. All the cards I put up today are also numbered. Some to only 25. So rare prints. I just won a Josh Allen card in an auction, I had the Bills. When it was pulled the auction went nuts, said it was a case hit. Which I guess means 1 card in every 200 to 300 cases I was told today.. Very rare. We'll see when it comes. I have talked to a few deals. Low end value $1000, High $5000. Every time I talk to someone the price goes up.lol.

It’s really interesting how things/collectibles go through phases and certain companies step in and reinvigorate the medium being collected. I’ve seen it happen in vinyl records many times the last several years.

I know NOTHING about sports cards, but I do have a few dozen NFL cards from the mid 1970s (was obsessed with the LA Rams back then for some reason) that I can’t seem to part with. I like to look through them every once in awhile to remember those times. I am sure they are next to worthless, but I like having them.

Oladipo, Zeller, Anunoby, Bryant, Gordon, and Langford are in the NBA.  Hornsby is a heart surgeon.  Woodson is coaching the team.  Brian Sloan is a professor at the IU school of Medicine. Basically, our guys have better things to do.

And Jeffries has a fishing show… Which is super cool.

I thought I mentioned it yesterday but here it goes again.  I noticed in the 2nd half that when Illinois collapsed on Edey(doubled/tripled), he almost "refused" to kick the ball out.

Exactly, and I recall seeing your post and noting it. TJD will quickly share the ball to get a shot and therefore help to develop his supporting cast. Not to mention his ability to rebound, drive the ball down the entire court, and either score or score the assist. I’d like to see Edey do that.

The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems to me to have such a one dimensional oaf as player of the year.

I've never seen Edey grab a rebound and start the fast break. I've also never seen Edey guard out on the perimeter anywhere close to what Trayce can do...

You're 100% correct when saying overall Edey is not on Trayce's level...

Glad I’m not the only one who sees it. Sure Edey is an effective player, but it’s only b/c of his height. Dude has developed a shot, but that’s it. He’s not able to do anything else but shoot and rebound right by the basket.

He’s boring and one dimensional, and I would add that I don’t see him doing the things TJD does to develop his team. One note, boring, tall dude from a boring one note school.

Isiah Thomas still lost 17 games in his two seasons. Isiah Thomas never won at Mackey. Isiah Thomas lost to Texas-Pan American. Isiah Thomas started out both seasons ranked in the top five, then fell out of the polls entirely. They climbed back, but were only ranked in the mid-teens heading into the tournament.

"Inconsistent" gets overused in college basketball. Only a small handful of teams in any season could be said to be consistent, and those are your top seeds. The last Indiana team that could be said to be consistent was maybe the '12-13 team, and people still love to tell you about every loss that team took along the way. Before that you probably have to go back to '92-93 to find a consistent Indiana team. It just doesn't happen often in this sport, and when it does it's special.

Every season has its ups and downs, but those get lost to history. I don't remember Maui when I think of the '15-16 season, I think of Yogi's step back three at Iowa to secure a Big Ten championship. I think of Tom Crean shooting finger guns at John Calipari in the NCAA Tournament. We remember Zeke for winning a championship (and for his NBA career), and we forget all the missteps that happened along the way.

We're a projected 4 seed this year. In the 30 years since Calbert Cheaney, only that '12-13 team had a higher seed. Only two other teams even matched this one on the 4-line. The '11-12 team was one, and is remembered fondly for their performances against Kentucky, but we forget some of the mind boggling losses in the middle of that season. This is what a 4 seed looks like: big wins and frustrating losses. I'd love to be a 1 seed and have aspirations at a national championship. Of course, the last time we played for a title it was as a five seed. So let's enjoy the season for what it is, and not make the perfect the enemy of the good. Still two tournaments left to go, that will define how we think about the season for years to come.

This is all excellent, but I wanted to highlight your last paragraph. I’m excited about the two upcoming tournaments!

Yeah, I mean, I've had my own moments of "WTF is going on with this team?" One was yesterday when I thought I was going to sit back and watch a nice easy W, and next thing I know we're down double digits. But, hey, that's a far cry from the double digit minutes of time when we wouldn't score a FG with the former coach, or getting run out of the gym by a team whose school name has more letters than Coach K has in his name.

Let's remember that this team was once 1-4 and could have easily packed it in, that this is Woody's second year, and another year of checking off some important benchmarks - not sweating out a tourney bid is a nice change, ending more losing streaks, sweeping Purdue, and winning tough, close games are all important hurdles to getting the program back to where we want it.

Ha, I was exactly the same way. Thought I was going to enjoy a few beers and a nice easy win, but then damn…

Pulled it out tin the end, but that was not the fun little romp I was expecting.

The advanced statistics aren’t close though whether it be for BTPOY or NPOY. Don’t think I’d agree re the much more talented/well rounded comment either. I think there are plenty of things that TJD is better at and plenty that Edey are better at.

It’s cool, we don’t have to agree. I think Edey is a force, but he’s not at TJD’s level overall. And TJD led his team to victory TWICE over Edey.

    2 hours ago, 5fouls said:

If IU was the 1 seed in the BTT, and spent weeks at the top of the polls, then TJD would be the winner.  For better or worse, the POY award in the Big Ten season is going to the player on the TEAM that claimed more media attention throughout the season.

And we beat that TEAM twice, once at their place. TJD led his team to beat that media darling team TWICE. TJD is a winner and Edey is really tall and had an easy schedule. So, I guess there’s that.

Yeah, the vote should absolutely be much closer then it will probably end up.

Edey has had the media narrative all season which is tough to overcome for TJD, and add an outright Big Ten Title, and I think those things will probably give it to him.

Yeah, and I was being somewhat tongue in cheek about Edey just being tall. I’ve seen how much his shot has improved. But, I just think the media narrative is BS. TJD is a better player.

Since we’re in the middle of it…people who don’t clear their rear windows and lights from the snow and are out trying to not get in an accident because they can’t see or be seen.

This is crazy dangerous, but lazy people are gonna lazy.

I have calmed down a tad.  Not a bunch, just a tad.  I console in the fact that Kansas got taken to the woodshed at home by TCU.

I was/still am just so pissed b/c it was Iowa and Fran.

I’m not used to teams disrespecting IU, but I guess if we let them then what can we do. I want players who will dominate/embarrass any team that dares to disrespect them. Like the old days. You gesture to our player or the crowd, and then next time we stomp you by 35 points.

It’s also not lost on me that Iowa IS a good offensive team. But a good defensive team should be able to counterbalance.

  11. I’ve thought more about this loss and I still hate it. But this happens to pretty much every team at one point in a long season. They better come out of fire and pissed for MI though. Limping into the post-season with two at home losses would be VERY bad.

  12. JHS is being schooled and made a fool. Time to man up.

I’m going to go out and smoke a big fat bowl of weed at halftime. Can’t imagine watching this any other other way. Maybe if I can get my shit right, they will.

Elston calling out Geo is the energy I needed today.

sidenote-- Elston was in my grade. Played in quite a few tournaments that he did. He played for the SYF Players.... lets just say he was the definition of "wanting that smoke" or "Ngaf" 🤣

Geo best toe the line. Elston crazy.

Loved Elston, and love that he called out that little b*^ch.
