  1. About two years in as uk coach Cal said he wasn't a lifer. Something about not wanting to coach into his 70s. If he does five years at Arkansas that puts him on the doorstep. I guess Arkansas is good with a five year window and hope to get a title out of it. My guess is the money and ego push him beyond five years. Still not sure why he stays in the South. Seems he'd be looking to go back East closer to home. Unless he feels Arkansas is on the brink right now.
  2. The uk coach even considering leaving for Arkansas says a lot about the situation in kentucky.
  3. Watching South Carolina wrap up the title. Not sure how many want to head to the SEC right now. Any team looking to win a title needs to figure out how to come close to matching their size and talent.
  4. End of the day you are what your record says you are. This season IU was mediocre at best. A few flashes of possibility but not even close when playing the best teams and only marginally close to most tournament teams they played. A team with no depth that can't shoot the three, doesn't really rebound at a high level, and isn't sure what they are doing on defense. A team that could not afford injuries but often ended up with key injuries. If it wasn't for K Ware it would have been much uglier. His play, when not hurt, raised them to slighlty above mediocre in a down season for the conference overall.
  5. Agreed. Especially style of play. When you compare it to the Elite Eight teams you see a stark contrast this season. Movement of the ball and the players is a constant in better teams making them difficult to defend. IU had little movement and relied heavily on a post dribbling into a shot while the rest watched. However, when they had JHS the season before with the size and strength to get by defenders, the offense looked more in line with the best teams. CMW didn't adjust to his talent or lack thereof at the guard position.
  6. This is perhaps the most important question a coaching staff has to answer and it is continuous. It never stops due to the portal and early entries. For IU specifically there's another question. After the season ended I suggested an autopsy is needed for the program. After decades of struggling to right the ship, it is clear there's more to it than what we see. What is the real problem? My suggestion is to put together a group of trusted former players and coaches (not just IU alums) to dig into everything. Coach hiring process; recruiting; facilities; NIL; academics; and everything else tied to the program. Where are they at a top level and where do they fall short? As fans, we want to assume they are a top program in most categories. Results say that's not true. It's also possible leadership is making the same assumptions. Group think is real and it can be death to any organization.
  7. CJ needs to learn the difference between a good shot and a bad shot. He was too eager to fire up a shot every time he touched it. The force is with him.
  8. Clearly guards are the focus but they better add some legit size or it's going to be small ball next season.
  9. Looking ahead I know they lose a lot of key players. What I don't know much about is their recruiting. I understand the best teams in the country have more size a more skilled players across their rosters. Is IU one or two elite recruits or transfers away from a title run?
  10. Proud of the effort yesterday. Easily could have gone the other way but they fought to the finish. Those seniors deserve to be on the big stage at the sweet 16. The next game is tough. It will take a giant effort, but I wouldn't rule out the upset.
  11. Congrats to the kid. Best of luck to him and his family
  12. Not implying. Stating as fact he is too big, slow, an unathletic to play B1G basketball. I heard nothing about his work ethic either way but the result speak for themselves. He did not change his body at all in the time he was with IU. That would be a choice.
  13. Sparks could have stayed, dropped some weight to become quicker and likely would have received more playing time on a team in need of size next season. He was not willing. Good luck to him back at Ball State.
  14. It's all relative. If he wins and dominates IU for years to come everyone will be up in arms for missing out. If he fails, everyone will say he was the next Archie - success at a small school that did not translate to the B1G.
  15. Glad the NCAA gave uk a 3 seed. Makes their L even better.
  16. Misery loves company but when it's uk it's that much better. Now if purdue can complete their usual collapse.
  17. Right decision for all three and IU. The fact they leave and it really doesn't change a thing for IU means they brought little to the table. Trying to project some great leap in production for any of the three is wishful thinking.
  18. The portal is quickly destroying the game. The idea Malik would be unsure.on whether to stay or transfer because they had a bad season is insane. If you are getting that much playing time and that many shots, what more can you ask for? Stop fouling like it's q requirement and you get more of both. He was literally one of the top two options in every game. Stop whining, work on your game and lead the team next year. Or transfer to a team that is wining more but you get a smaller role. Makes perfect sense. Kids should be looking at IU right now and seeing all kinds of opportunities with few standing in their way.
  19. This actually makes sense. They are apparently close. Not sure it's the best move but I can see this happening.
  20. I'd expect a shakeup with the assistant coaches almost immediately. IU has to get serious about recruiting but also player development. Ware and MM improved over the season. Everyone else stayed about the same. Not good enough.
  21. Previewing the coming days and weeks. - Several in the portal - Ware will declare for the draft - MM to declare, test his draft status or transfer - Lots of rumors around potential additions It's going to be a long offseason unless they can bring in legit talent. If they don't it will be an even longer next season.
  22. CMW ejected. He's never figured out how to work the refs I'm college.
  23. IU relying on Cupps and Gunn to finish this off and that's all you need to know. Trey hurt and out. Leal hurt and out. Newton arrived hurt and out. X missed significant time with injuries for the second straight season. What I don't need to hear is CMW excuses. They put together a very limited team and had a very limited season.
  24. At least they have no chance to get beat by purdue again. They'd lose by 40.
