  1. Big game. Lose this one and you lose a lot of fan support. Interested to see if anything changes with starters and rotations.
  2. The first half was decent but the wholesale subs did not work... again. They lost the lead in roughly two minutes of play. I'd suggest forgetting that idea completely. Sub two. Sub three. Don't sub five for a group that is clueless at best on the road. Iowa came out strong in the second half but X made it a lot easier on them. Rob wasn't much better. It's hard to win if you can't trust your upper class PG's to protect the ball. But they were no different than the rest of the team in that regard. Just as frustrating is IU not competing on the boards for long segments. It may be TJD and Race were fatigued by the second half but Kopp and Parker played 50 minutes and totaled three rebounds. At the same time, X and Parker continue to see how many fouls they can rack up. Not understanding some of the really stupid fouls they continue to commit. In X's case, it may have been a blessing in disguise that he had to come off the court because of the turnovers. Tamar still looks lost. It's been a rough month+ for the Freshman. He clearly is not sure how to get a good shot and it always ends up a one-on-one make a wish shot. His best moment was the steal and dunk. He'd be better served to focus on his defense and try scoring in transition. Durr and Geronimo are just not solid enough to play more even though it would help the team if they could just play somewhat decent for small periods of time. They come in and commit some fouls and turnovers, maybe hit a shot, and back to the bench. CMW keeps saying he has to help them get over the hump. If the hump is low basketball IQ and lack of maturity he has a long way to go.
  3. Again, brain dead. Just stupid and they had days to prepare for their traps.
  4. Cant get key rebounds. Cant hit key free throws. Seems familiar. That's Archie ball. On the plus side X out of the game may give them a shot.
  5. Shades of uk by iowa. Sprint up the court and tun into the closest defender. If you get the foul it's good offense.
  6. Guards appear brain dead to this point
  7. Going to continue to harp on X. He stared down that lob pass to TJD. No chance to connect. Easy turnover.
  8. Is that four or five turnovers for X in the half!?!?
  9. You can see Iowa's plan. Run Traycw and Race out of gas. IU needs someone to stel up and rebound/defend.
  10. Gotta sub X out. Killing them.
  11. The pace is more I'm Iowa's favor but IU is showing signs on offense.hoping they don't fatigue late. Mccaffery was jawing at Kopp before the inbounds late in the half and that had to be where it started. Defense is playing pretty well but the bad turnovers kept Iowa close. Gotta have a better plan to beat the trap. CMW should reconsider the whole sale subs. They literally handed them the lead in about two minutes of play. Maybe try that at home not on the road.
  12. Need X and Parker to avoid the silly fouls. They get frustrated and angry which leads to some just dumb fouls and they take themselves off the court. I like IU playing with an edge or a chip on their shoulders, but on the road you have to be smart enough to stay in the game. If it turns into a three point shooting challenge, Iowa cruises to a win. If IU plays their normal defense and can control the paint/glass they have a good chance taking this one. At some point, they have to figure it out on the road. It's time.
  13. Would be great to be in a situation where IU always has some legit bigs ready to play and one or two developing. And more 6'9 to 7'0 240+ than 6'8 215.
  14. It's going to take a strong commitment to stopping penetration and the kick outs for three. Iowa has twelve guys who have hit a three this season and five have hit ten or more. About 38% of their shots are three pointers. Iowa is one of those teams where if they start hitting their threes it snowballs quickly. IU will have to stay with their man and try to do enough to slow Murray while taking away the rest. I'd be good with Murray getting his 25 points if it takes him 18+ shots to do it and they keep the rest under control. Iowa's four losses are to good teams - at #2 purdue, Illinois, at #17 Iowa State, and at #23 Wisconsin. This will be a tough game but if they win it's another strong statement for IU. That said, if they try to go toe-to-toe from three like they did with Minny, it's an L for IU. Attacking the basket, controlling the boards, staying with their man on D are keys to winning. X and Parker cannot continue picking up silly fouls.
  15. Take the W and start working on how to get s good shot when the other team does not guard X because they will see that again.
  16. Tossing up threes and not rebounding equals L.timeout needed.
  17. Instead of X running to a corner or soot not being guarded why not have him set a pick for someone else to flash or go to the lane force them to rotate and hit the open guy.
  18. It's not that they are taking threes it's who takes them. I want Parker taking more than X.
  19. The day Galloway develops an outside shot IU goes up another level and you won't be able to take him off the court.
  20. Three point shooting contest not likely to end well for IU. Get to the paint and crash the boards.
  21. This is a big game. Lose and you erase all the positives coming out of the OSU win. Let's see how they handle success. Worse possible outcome is they overlook Minny, who beat Mich and played MSU close, toss up a bunch of long jumpers and let them hang around late. Would like to see the same intensity on defense and a little more patience when shooting from deep. Sometimes, and for no good reason, I don't think Kopp sees the rim until after the ball is released. X played well on D but has to improve his approach on offense. If the shot is not falling he has to work to get others the shot or figure out how to get to the FT line. I'd like to see Tamar get some set plays were he can square up and shoot it rather than tossing up another prayer. He looks lost.
  22. Great win. Now build on it. Galloway completely turned the game. TJD playing fantastic. Still needs to clean up some of that volleyball around the basket. X has to improve shot selection. Miller and Parker still rushing shots for no reason. The defense was rock solid especially in the second half. Geronimo, Rob, Durr, and just about everyone played pretty solid. Tamar looks lost right now.
  23. Momentum changed when Galloway came in. They have to knock down some of those threes because it will likely stay close throughout.
  24. Time to grow up and man up or OSU will punk them on their home court. All the analysis in the world won't help them in this one. It's going to be who is wiling to attack the rim and the glass. Who's diving for the loose ball. Nothing finesse about it.
  25. Did not post during or right after the game. Frustrated watching another opportunity wasted but trying to figure out what the answers might be for this team. The numbers are telling. Crushed on the boards. Couldn't shoot inside or outside. Not getting enough off the bench. But it's the individual player stats that get us closer to the real answers. TJD did not have a good game. For all his ability, if you need 18 shots to get 20 points you are not effective scoring the ball. If you miss multiple layups (point blank) it's going to hurt your team. When you play 34 minutes and end with 5 rebounds as the best big on the court, you're not getting it done. Just not a good game. More disappointing is Kopp and Stewart. Combined 60 minutes played results in 7 points, 2 rebounds, 6 fouls. That can't happen. You could argue there will be games when guys are off, but IU doesn't have the bench scoring to allow this sort of no show from two starters. Rob made a few nice shots but the bench in general is not helping. Maybe Galloway can bring some intangibles to help, but it's asking a lot from a Soph coming off injury to turn things around. As a team, if you only get 12 free throws for a game you're not attacking the basket. Then you look at the team and very few guys can get to the basket and when they do you end up with some odd no chance shots. X is not finishing. Bates is throwing up one crazy shot after another. Geronimo knocked down 2 of 3 but he was dead set on shooting as soon as he touched the ball. Who can hit a mid-range jumper? Who can get to the basket with a quality shot when outside shots aren't falling? Who can get to the FT line and knock'em down when your team is struggling? I do not see an answer for any of those questions. Sadly, everything above is mostly offense. related What happened yesterday exposed the defense as well. Too many guys got lost and could not recover to wide open shooters. Granted, Dread hit some hope for the best threes but that seems to be the norm when playing Indiana. The bigger issue has continued for years - late in the clock the other teams works the ball to get a guard matched up with a big like Race covering outside and they come up with a jumper. Race is all heart but he still is not quick enough to move and stop a shot or drive. OSU has lived off that for years against Race, so we will see it a lot on Thursday. I don't have answers but my first thought is you can't have Kopp and Stewart on the court together if they are not getting and hitting shots. Better off having Geronimo (defense/rebound), Bates (defense/drive) , or Rob (defense/point) out there with Kopp or Stewart as your shooter and everyone else attacks the rim.
