  1. A winnable road game. Better make it count. Nothing dynamic about PSU but they can be physical. Harrar is a bear - was hoping he might be a transfer to IU just for the physical style he plays, but he stayed. If IU plays defense and doesn't hand the game over (turnovers, missed free throws, chucking up needless shots) it's hard to imagine they lose this game.
  2. If they are willing to throw money at another cupcake i'm sure it could happen but not sure why they would want another cupcake. It would only make sense if they could line up a decent team. Otherwise, move on. This season may come down to how many programs can end with a set number of games played to determine a tournament field. But I wouldn't count on the B1G or NCAA to see the season through. They likely bow to the politics in spite of vaccines, endless boosters, and whatever hoops the "science" can come up with to jump through.
  3. Still think CMW is trying to build these kids up. KL and JG will make the team better if they continue to work. KL has quickness and speed you can't teach. Just needs to develop his game and he's still young. Big picture IU needs to stick with him. JG is an undeniable athlete but I wish he had a set role. Convince him to he a reliable defender, willing rebounder, and get his points on putbacks. Let his offence develop.
  4. Parker benched for a half and plays in second. Definitely a team rule violation. Missed class? Issue during practice? Out late? Good for CMW. Send a clear message. A bit concerned two players may have had some team rule violation and it's not January yet.
  5. This game is important in that IU needs to play a clean game. It can't be one of those throw it all over the place, look disinterested, still win by 15+ and think everything is ok. I hope CMW has really pushed them this week. I'd also like to see Lander get some time over the next two games. If he can't get in against NKU or UNC Ashville it's difficult to see him playing in conference games barring an injury. Also watching to see if CMW only plays about 7 - 8 guys again. I know Bates was not available for the ND game but of late against the better teams he has limited the minutes for some. Even in 2OT with Cuse he only played eight guys 10 or more minutes with JG getting four and Durr getting five.
  6. TJD has a lot going for him but the question is how does his game translate to the NBA ? It's difficult right now to see him being more than end of the bench help and that gets signed over or drafted over rather quickly. Defensively, he has some size but he's not a monster physically. Who does he guard at the NBA level? Offensively, it's going to be difficult without a reliable jump shot. We've heard a lot about his need to develop one but I haven't seen much evidence so far. Selfishly, would like to see him stay another season in hopes of developing the game he needs. That's probably not realistic. But I hate seeing these guys jump knowing they probably won't have the NBA career they always wanted. If he could use one more year to develop that jump shot and give himself more than a cup of coffee in the league, seems it would be a better option. Whatever he decides, IU fans are glad for the time we've had to watch him play.
  7. Take the win and keep working. The defense continues to lead the way, but they have two more 'tune up' games to work on the offense and clean up the turnovers. Stll not sure why they feel the need to throw up threes early in the shot clock when they can get the same shot late in the clock. And I'd rather X try to drive and dish or get to the line when his threes are not falling. The other thing that is odd is why they sometimes hurry their shots when they have time to set their feet. There are times I'm not sure Miller even sees the rim until the ball leaves his hand. What's the rush? Parker is pretty fast also but he's having more success with it. Feels like they are handicapping themselves more than is necessary.
  8. As odd as it sounds I believe the ND game is more important to the fans than the team right now and that doesn't mean the team is ok with losing. The fans want to believe things have changed but too many see any loss as proof it's the same old same old. Anyone being honest has to say things are not the same. The result may feel the same but this team plays harder than what we have seen over the past several seasons. They just have to clean up their game and learn how to win bigger games and especially on the road. Had this team beaten Syracuse and/or Wisconsin they would still have to fix the same issues we see today in order to compete for a B1G title. It would just make us all feel better about everything had they won. Years ago we would see this team for what it really is - one that is going to drop some games early but has what it takes to become hard to beat when March roles around.
  9. Did not see a general recruiting topic for 2023. Everything seems specif to individual player offers. Feel free to remove this post if there is something out there gathering information on the '23 class. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on who may sign next. Newton and Cupps are a great start.
  10. Rosters change significantly now. I wouldn't write off IU winning at Kansas next season because you have no idea what the teams will look like this time next season. IU just needs some size to go with the class they are bringing in. TJD is likely gone but if they don't lose too much to transfer they should have a deep team. And it's mich better than the played out ND and Butler rotation.
  11. CMW still playing a lot of guys. I was wondering if that would continue or if he would start to shorten the bench after the Wisconsin loss. I'm going to assume he' using the rest of the non-conference games to keep developing roles but some of these guys need to be limited in what they are asked to do. Geronimo's passing is a turnover waiting to happen. He should be the rebounding garbage man. Durr should not touch the ball outside 4 feet from the basket unless it is a jumper. I never want to see him dribble the ball. Rob should only shoot if it's absolutely necessary and if he can drive it, i'd prefer he drive it than take the three. Lander needs to play in these type games. Really no reason for him to sit when X can't stay on the floor and Rob can't hit wide open shots against lesser teams.
  12. Like the ball movement but if you catch it in the lane you can't just stand there holding it because the defense will collapse. And if you are posting up you have to expect the double once you dribble. They never seem to anticipate the off defender digging down from behind.
  13. Can't figure out what Durr is thinking when he gets the ball more than 6 feet from the basket. He keeps trying to drive it but can't figure out how to NOT travel. The guards shouldn't even consider throwing it to him unless he is right on top of the basket. No way he needs to be dribbling at this point. I like him taking the open jumper though.
  14. Lander is getting better but there is no way he can physically match up with Davison or Davis today. I believe CMW is trying to put him in a position to be successful and not have his confidence crushed like last season. In other words, he's protecting him. Last night was another gut check and they failed. In the loss to Wis and Cuse they were exposed. They are short on guys who can break you down off the dribble and consistently score. In the second half, Wis got physical and of course the refs didn't call it and IU couldn't answer. No need to panic. What we want to see is growth. The first half they looked poised and not in a hurry. They moved the ball and rebounded it. Second half Wis got physical and they couldn't get the same open shots. It was clear they do not have a guy who can get to the rim and score consistently. X tried but some of those shots were just wishful thinking. I guess he was trying to get a foul call but that's not going to happen on any B1G opponents court. TJD couldn't get around his guy for a clean look and he didn't even attempt a jump shot. They need to go back to the drawing board on how to use TJD to get open shots. Wis did what other teams have done to him. They didn't double until he dribbled and for whatever reason he couldn't find an open shooter to pass to. That's a concern. Let's see if they can take another step over the next four games, see where they are when they play Notre Dame and more importantly how they play when they go to Penn State. It's the road games that have them stumped right now.
  15. Parker why not pull up in the lane? Why go into size? Dumb
  16. Unable to get TJD a shot for how long now?
  17. Of course. Just lose it out of bounds and there goes the lead.
  18. Race finishing over size is never east
  19. Davison always jawing, always throwing elbows or pushing or saying something. IU has to keep its composure and execute to win this game.
  20. Wis not leaving Parker even when it goes to TJD. They only double when he starts his dribble. It's on TJD to get a quality shot or find the open man.
  21. Timeout a possesion or two too late. TJD needs to be on the court and under 7 min bring back Race and X
  22. Wis bodying everyone and getting away with it for the most part. An M Durr sighting. Nice.
  23. Not in a position to rebound and not blocking out this half
  24. Here come the tic tac fouls on one side only
  25. Just checked the box score and and with 20 minutes left in the first half Wisconsin is in the bonus. Typical.
