  1. Without the smaller teams, the tournament will lose its magic and the money will start to dry up. Any fool can figure that out.
  2. The NCAA tournament is the purest thing in sports. For anyone to want to systematically change the way it is structured is a new level of cluelessness built on unabated greed.
  3. Just watched the 3rd episode of the series. Man, this is a really well-done show. Absolutely worth a watch even if you have not read the book.
  4. If you're not going to commit to trying to compete, then you should not be in the game. And, making good investments is different than handing out bad contracts. Give the choice of having 3-4 prospects, one of which MIGHT work out or one of the following pitchers over 30, which would you take? Justin Verlander Max Scherzer Adam Wainwright Gerrit Cole I'll take the proven talent that helps me when now every single time. That's why the Astros, Mets, Cardinals, and Yankees are headed to the playoffs and the Reds aren't.
  5. OK. I did some research and there have been 2 trades since they got Phillips in 2006 that have been what I would call 'successful'. And, by successful, the Reds acquired a player that performed solidly over a multiple year stretch (Guys like Duvall and Castellanos don't count because they were there for such a short time). Getting Suarez from the Tigers Getting Castillo, himself, from the Marlins. It just makes me sick that they Reds have such an elite foundational piece such as Castillo and are basically going to give him up for unproven commodities that will likely not pan out.
  6. I almost went back to getting Sean Casey, but then I remembered they got Brandon Phillips in a trade from Cleveland as well. I don't remember who they traded to get him. That would have been in 2006. There could be something since then, but that's the last one I distinctly remember.
  7. Whatever the Reds end up getting for Castillo, it won't be enough. Dude is just elite.
  8. I look at it this way. If the Reds win, it's a good call. If they lose on the same play, it's total bullship. Saw somewhere that it was the 23rd 'balk-off' in MLB history.
  9. @TheWatShot: Your Tigers are putting together a nice little run right now.
  10. Waverly Hills Sanitorioum in Louisville.
  11. I'm afraid to Google the meaning of 'put hed'.
  12. Free runner, sacrifice bunt, and a Balk. Winning with power.
  13. Plan accordingly. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/a-passing-star-shifting-neptune-s-orbit-could-cause-the-collapse-of-the-solar-system/ar-AAZm0sq?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=84aa0d1f06d04fdea537e83266e2b63b
  14. While in quarantine the last couple of days, I've watched the first two episodes of The Terminal List on Amazon Prime. It's an 8-episode season based on the Jack Carr novel of the same name. The book was the first in a series featuring ex-Navy Seal James Reece. I've read the books, and didn't really care for the Terminal List when I read it. Thought it was a touch too violent. But, I enjoyed the next two books in the series quite a bit more as the Reece character continues to develop. Without giving away any important plot information, The Terminal List is set in the aftermath of a Seal Operation gone very badly. Reece led the mission and is convinced it was a setup. I say anything else and I start giving away plot spoilers. The first two episodes are very intense and translated very well to TV. It's worth watching even if you have not read the books. Chris Pratt stars as Reece.
  15. Saw this strikeout stat yesterday.
  16. If you're going to listen to talking heads, it's best to listen to thoughtful, level-headed guys like Dakich.
  17. You should make a commitment to study Baseball history. By far the most interesting sport from a historical perspective, and it's not even close.
  18. That's okay. We all know that, if he was a Purdue grad, the comparison would have been Babe Ruth.
  19. I don't really like to watch TV. I just lose interest in what I am watching after a while. Normally, that is not a problem. But, when one is in the basement on quarantine and one feels too crappy to do anything else, it sucks. I watched a couple of hour-long shows on streaming today and was ready for them to end 20 minutes before they were finished. Watching a 2- hour movie is totally out of the question. Normally, I would read a book because I love reading. But, I feel too crappy to do even that.
  20. If Brad Pitt has it, it must be a 'thing'. https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/07/entertainment/brad-pitt-facial-blindness/index.html Actually, now that I know this is a real malady, it explains the breakup of 5-6 of my marriages. I've been telling my exes for years that I thought the woman I met at the bar was her.
  21. Don't forget to update your team name to your HSN screen name when you sign in so we can keep track of who has successfully joined. The commissioners should have already reached out to you via IM and/or email, so if you have not been contacted yet let us know. We do not want to overlook anyone. Finally, for the new guys. Pay special attention to the scoring. It's PPR, but there are also bonus points for yardage thresholds. And, QBs get 6 points for a touchdown pass.
  22. It had been a while. Every storm front that came through the last 3-4 weeks either broke up before it got here, or went just north or south of my house. It was like living in a super hot and humid dome.
  23. What in tarnation? There is water falling out of the sky at my house?????
  24. He also starred in a TV show called Las Vegas that my wife and I really liked.
