It’s a done deal Sims is going to Nebraska. IU now has to move to plan B
What about Mike Wright from Vandy? He seems like a good fit but haven’t heard us connected at all. Him or Emory Jones are probably the best options.

Jeff Simms is the main target at QB. He'd be a really good fit for Bell's offense imo
We really need to try to get him but going to be tough to beat Nebraska

I would absolutely love if we could get Sims
Id actually like this as well, seems like someone we have a decent chance at. Really need to get QB figured out and then hope we can get a few decent impact guys to surround him.

Allen really need to convince some good players to come here, don’t know how, but his job quite literally depends on it. He can’t survive another year like this.

please tell me Purdouche doesn't jump ahead of us in tomorrow's poll?
I don’t know how Purdue wouldn’t be in the top 10 tomorrow, granted I think Gonzaga and Duke aren’t as good as they normally are, but there’s not a team in the country with better wins than Purdue right now.

Shooting 38.3% from 3 as a team
Still not a huge volume, we are gonna need to knock down more than 4 or 5 in some games, and only one true “test” so far… but definitely encouraging. Hopefully Bates can keep it going.

Love the energy Geronimo played with! CJ Gunn is going to be a player.
I think Banks will too. He’s got a pretty impressive offensive game already.

Reneau is going to be great man, he’s just special. Really need Kopp and JHS to be better outside shooters, Kopp especially. Great win though, Xavier is not a bad team and to win the first true road game of the year is always special.

No I still think he will be really really good …one of those 4 year guys you hate
Sure but a lot of the hype around him was his instant impact, best player in practice etc.
I don’t want to sound down on him because I think he’ll be a good player, but he certainly through the first couple of games doesn’t appear to be Purdue’s “best player” or whatever report that was.

Braden Smith hype train slowing down?

Watching him in high school. I know it’s a step up to major P5 basketball but I liked what I saw from watching him at Westfield.
It’s really hard to determine whether a guy will be effective defensively in the Big ten by watching him play Carmel or Fishers. I guess we’ll see, but I don’t expect Smith to exactly be a key cog to any defense that quickly into his career. I think he’ll particularly struggle against bigger guards like an X or a JHS that he could be matched up with.
He very rarely faced guys like that in high school.

No but at the same time, I think there’s more to it than pure athleticism too. Look at a guy like Jaden Ivey last year. He was easily the most athletic guy in the conference and could’ve been a stud defensively if he wanted to. He just didn’t have the desire/drive to want to excel on defense. A guy like Smith (I’m hoping) has the desire to excel on defense like a Chris Kramer did for example.
Sure effort is a lot of it… but if you’re basing it off effort, what’s the indication he’ll be a good defender before we’ve ever seen him play? Hope?

I get it. But who better is coming to Bloomington that wants to be there?
It would be difficult to get worse at this point. Last two years we are 1-14 in the Big Ten. Pretty hard to defend that.

This team is a disaster. Hate to be that guy, but I don’t particularly care what Allen’s buyout is. He isn’t the guy. If we want to keep tanking the program to save $10 million off the buyout it’ll be hard to justify the next couple years.

In what way is Braden Smith subpar athletically? I’ll give you undersized (though his wingspan helps a lot) but he’s not subpar athletically.
Because compared to most of the especially high end players he’s just not the same athlete. You think Smith is on a comparable level as Xavier Johnson for example from a pure athleticism standpoint? I’m not saying he’s a *bad* athlete but he doesn’t particularly stand out in that regard.
I just can’t see Smith being a good defender from day one against a guy like X who has an advantage on him in just about every physical trait you could ask. Maybe in a couple years that changes but I wouldn’t count on it as a freshman.

I actually think this Purdue team will be a better defensive team than last year tbh. Our frontcourt defense will be better as the combo of Furst/TKR/Edey/Gillis should be better defensively than Furst/Edey/Williams/Gillis. I think Smith will be a solid defender as well. Not sure massive liability is the right term. Inexperienced? Sure. But massive liability seems like a stretch.
I have a hard time seeing an undersized, subpar athleticism true freshman guard being a solid defender if I’m being honest.

From people that know a guy is probably the best way to put it . Third hand information, but take it for what it’s worth.

Gotta assume Dexter Williams right?

Because almost every team plays more than 1 QB at some point during the season and he’s the backup now.
Gotcha, just didn’t know if there were rumors he was looking good in practice or something. Really have not been impressed with Bazelak but also this team is not built for a QB like Bazelak.
-
Can someone tell me about Dexter Williams? Is there a reason we think he plays at some point?

First AP poll has been released, Indiana checking in at #13.
Michigan and Illinois are the only other ranked Big Ten teams at #22 and #23.

Not to derail but my Bears buddy was hoping Fields got hurt on Thursday night just a little because Siemian (Northwestern kid) is similar to Lewis/Ramsey mold...quick decision and make the throw.
“Fits the Ramsey mold” is probably not something you want to hear about your NFL QB. I loved Ramsey but that man was never touching the pros for a reason.

So apparently no personnel changes on the O-Line… pretty disappointing if I’m being honest.

I’m a little concerned if Emory Jones is that route we go honestly…. Most of the reviews I’m seeing of his play are…. Subpar
