I still gotta give Hoosiers the nod as the top sports movie, but these two are both excellent. I think Eight Men Out is underrated, it is a really well made movie.
5fouls
@Proud2BAHoosier Some concerning news about Cole and his elbow. If it's bad, that could ruin the season before it evens gets started unless Rodon rediscovers his stuff, and that might not even be enough. 5fouls
@Seeking6 or anyone else out there play season long 5:5 roto style Fantasy Baseball? I'm playing this year for the first time in a long, long time and have a strategy question. No money is involved, but I am an intense competitor, and I don't want to do something dumb. So, here's my quandery. I ended up with both Joe Musgrave and Yu Darvish in my rotation. The Padres, or course, are scheduled to start the season in Korea against the Dodgers. I know nothing about the ballpark they will be playing in, but my natural suspicion is that it is probably smaller than the average MLB park. What I do know for certain, however, is that the Dodgers can hit and score runs, and it would not surprise me in the slightest if MLB takes a 'lively' ball to use over there. Both Musgrove and Darvish are scheduled to start in Korea. My question is whether I should start them or put one or both of them on the bench. For my fantasy league, the 5 standard pitching categories are in use. Wins, Saves, Strikeouts, E.R.A., and WHIP. I put the chances of either getting a win at below 50%. They, obviously, will not get a save. I will lose some strikeouts if I bench them. My concern is whether or not the possible damage to their E.R.A and WHIP will erase whatever benefit I would get from strikeouts. Yes, the setup may give both pitchers an extra start over the season, but the combination of small stadium, the Dodgers, and the possibility MLB wants to put on an offensive show has me leaning towards benching them. Against those odds, I don't want to sacrifice two categories for the benefit of one. Thoughts?

Are you on weekly scoring system? If I were still playing there's about 4-5 teams...Dodgers, Braves, Rangers, Astros, and even Orioles that I would avoid on the regular. The rest are matchup based. Good Luck!

Good Luck! It's daily scoring and lineup changes. No head to head. Just season-long accumulation of stats. At end of season, top in each category gets 12 points, second gets 11 points......bottom in that category gets 1 point. Starting Pitchers are causing me the most angst. They have 2 'counting' stats in Wins and Strikeouts and 2 'performance' stats in ERA and WHIP. As you pointed out, if you put a starter out there to accumulate the counting stats against certain lineups, then you are putting the performance stats at risk. If you sit them to protect the performance stats, then you have no shot at scoring in the counting stats. I'm leading towards sitting both. Because of the week between the Korea games and the rest of the season, I still think they get the normal number of starts as every other pitcher. And, I truly don't want to start out getting in a hole in those two categories. I have no other players from either team, so there would be no good to offset the bad and i would have to stew on that for a whole week.

I heard on the Radio this morning that if the Yanks signed Snell for 1 year at $30MM, it would push them up a Luxury Tax level that would cost them an ADDITIONAL $33MM. That's a total of $63MM, and that ain't happening.

Proud2BAHoosier
Son of a Beech, what was looking as a promising season for the Yankees just took a big hit as the Yanks Ace pitcher and reining Cy Young winner, will be out 1 to 2 months to start the season. This is something I wouldn't wish for any team, even the Yankee rivals. Am I still optimistic? Depends on what Rodon, Cortes and Stroman do. I am hoping for bounce-back seasons from them and they stay healthy!! We do have Soto and Verdugo and I hope Stanton can regain some consistency offensively. If I was a betting man, I would bet on the Yanks winning the AL East. Stanton, Soto, and Judge Judy will prolly combine for 150 HR's. Stroman will win the CYA. Nah, the Yankees SUCK! lol * I did really hate to see that about Cole.
Proud2BAHoosier
Looks like the Yankee fans can breathe a "CY" of relief as it appears Cole does not have a tear in his elbow....
Maedhros
Turning my attention to this thread, with the conclusion of the IUBB season. Go Braves. Might be our best roster yet in this current run, enough that I bought MLB the Show for the first time in three years. Can't wait to see what Acuña is going to do next. His ZIPS projections are pornographic.

Would have liked to get at least one more from their offense. I expect them to score a lot of runs.
Naturalhoosier
Snell to Houston rumors heating up. But with Boras as his agent, who knows what’ll happen. Would love for them to take a run at Bauer too. Worth the risk as he’s willing to accept the league minimum.

Hadn’t heard that but also not surprised. $66m for 2 yrs with an opt out after year 1 is excessive. I hate Boras. Just saying.

I saw they trade for a SS from the Blue Jays who made the All Star team a couple of years ago. I guess I don't pay attention to the Blue Jays because I have never heard of him.
