If UI and Rutgers wins tonight there will be 8 teams tied with 8 losses, that includes MSU which is 10-8

Parity or a function of Big Ten home cooking being awful?

Edit to add:  or option 3, unbalanced schedule?

I may be way off on this, but college basketball seems to be more like the NBA than ever in terms of the swings between games that seem to come out of nowhere. Big wins followed by weird or confusing losses. As a fan I have always hung on each game, but it feels foolish to have that approach any longer. Ups and downs until the end, and then let’s go all in at playoff time.

In a respectful way, it's been that way for awhile now.  The country is so balanced. The difference between the 5th best team and the 55th best team is so marginal.

The fronts of jerseys matter very little.

I think the front of the jersey matters quite a bit.  It does in the NBA too.

What is this suppose to show? Are you arguing the country isn't balanced? But no, it doesn't.

When I watched the NBA it didn't matter.  I guess that's changed?

Yea I get what you’re saying. As a fan, I have been very slow to adjust accordingly. I know it is not true, but sometimes as a fan I feel like I want to win each game more than the team does.

When you look at who is in the Final Four (in college), who is winning the Championships (in both), I think it clearly shows that the jersey does matter.   There has always been parity in the mushy middle, but the same teams generally are bringing it home and going the deepest.

This year has been a little more equal than most, but those years happen from time to time.  There will probably also (hopefully) be a bit of the changing of the guard but Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Connecticut, and Villanova are all over the championships the past 20 years.  Sure there is a Baylor here and there, but still.

Baylor? Nova? Nahhh that jersey hasn't mattered for a long, long time.

I think Michigan at 2nd in the BIGTEN is going to be short lived.... Champagne  will be a tough place to play tonight. Michigan could drop pretty far. Correct?

Here are the winners of Chapionships going back to 1990:

Duke 5 times

UNC 4 times

UConn 4 times

Kentucky 3 times

Just want to stop here and point out that these 4 teams account for half of the titles won since 1990.

Kansas 2

Nova 2

Florida 2

That concludes the multiple winners.  32 titles won since 1990 and 22 have been won by 7 teams.

Baylor, Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse, Maryland, Michigan St., Arizona, UCLA, Arkansas, and UNLV round out the field with 1 each.

I am not going to do the leg work on Final Fours but I would be willing to bet that those teams listed above have an overwhelming presence there too.  College basketball has always been about the jersey.  That isn't to say you don't get a team that pops up here and there and makes some noise, but the same teams have been showing out for the past 30 years.  If you go back from there you will add a few more teams to the list but you see Indiana multiple times.  Louisville multiple times.  More Kentucky.  More North Carolina.  More Villanova.  More UCLA.

There are a ton of schools in D1 so yeah, there has always been a mushy middle, but there is a very clear hierarchy.

I think we want UM to win, yeah?

This part I can't figure out. We want Illinois to win to improve their NET ranking into top 30. Helps us in NCAA seeding. We hold the tiebreaker over both if we beat Michigan on Sunday.

But if Illinois wins tonight I believe we fall to 5th seed. If Michigan wins we finish 3rd....again if everything else goes chalk. Is that the people are seeing this?

I think we want UM to win so they can be in the 8 loss group at the end.

ILL plays @PU Sunday. I think they'll have 9+ losses, regardless of tonight.

Why wouldn't we want Illinois to be in that 8 loss group in the end?

Because I don't find it likely they'll beat Purdue on Sun, regardless of what happens tonight.

So if that's the case wouldn't we want Illinois to get into top 30 in NET with a win tonight but likely road loss on Sunday? Helps our Quad 1 win total.

Seems to me like that Penn St/Maryland game has the most impact.

I'm not following the need for a quad 1 win, compared to a bye in the BTT.
